Trial 2 – Part 01

“Excuse me.”

Reginald Drummond, the sharp-featured, tanned vice-captain of the Third District Knight Guard of the Independent Trade City, began his report as soon as he stepped into the mayor’s office at the government building.

“It took some time, but we managed to dig out several entrances to the volcanic caves that had collapsed due to the aftershocks. In one of them, near the First Tatara Workshop, we found a pair of boots.”

“Boots?” Hugo Housman, who had been working at his desk, furrowed his brows.

Reginald nodded and continued, “If my memory serves me right, they belong to Luke Ainsworth.”

The first thing that crossed Hugo’s mind was a dreadful possibility.

Hesitantly, he asked, “Were there… legs inside?”

“There were no bloodstains or flesh that suggested anything like that. Most likely, he removed them on his own for some reason.”

Hugo let out a huge sigh of relief.
