I got Rig to stick onto me as a defence.

I used as many strengthening spells as I could on Nias, and got her to take out the Needlefish that were stuck to my wall spells.

Jean did his best to take out the Needlefish in the air.

That was all Jean could really do.

Heather’s attacks on the underwater Needlefish weren’t very effective either.

The lightning strikes seemed moderately effective though.

But then, she would be aiming for the Needlefish once they were in the air.

Yep.

Everyone was doing their best in their own way.

Soon, it was around 8:30 pm.

I took a break once I got myself 10 more Needlefish Jaws.

It was then that a big event occurred.

Nice!

I could get myself another aquatic Summon Monster.

I would’ve loved to get the level-up a little sooner though.

Oh! Almost forgot.

I focused my gaze on the virtual window displaying my stats.

I headed back to the beach.

I used【Instant Portal】and got ready to summon my new Summon Monster.

My 20th friend!

As soon as I set up the Instant Portal, I was ready to summon it.

I recalled Jean.

And then used the summon spell!

「Summon Monster!」

Just taking the new candidates from the list, my options were these:

Giant Bee

Big Spider

Big Crab

Sea Snake

So, which Summon Monster did I go for?

I went for this one:

Looked like it was going to be a good pair for Gokame.

Their sizes were about the same too…

The skills list was looking a bit lonely, but I was grateful for a Summon Monster that could act as an underwater tank.

Unlike Gokame, it didn’t have any Special Skills, but that would maybe let it serve better as a balanced tank.

【Aquatic】was a skill that Nias had too.

Would it be okay for me to have high expectations?

There was only one way to find out.

Before taking on a Needlefish, I wanted to let Taylor try fighting a Sand Roach.

Without any support spells.

And…?

The fight was a huge success.

Gokame and Taylor worked together very well to take out the Sand Roach.

They got hit by the Sand Roach’s attacks a few times, but it was no big concern.

Their HP bars didn’t go down at all.

They had their hard shells, after all.

What about an Assault Needlefish?

As expected, repeated attacks could do damage to Taylor’s HP bar.

But any needlefish that were unfortunate enough to land on Taylor were swiftly taken out.

Taylor’s pincers were amazing.

They could split a needlefish in two.

Well then.

What about with support spells?

At some point, I noticed the time was already past 9:30 pm.

I got a lot more Needlefish Jaws than I expected.

Definitely a good enough number.

I returned to the beach and used【Instant Portal】once again.

I wanted to check Taylor’s compatibility with my other Summon Monsters in Battle Mode.

After changing up my Summon Monster team, I got them to fight in two teams.

Gokame and Taylor in the front, with Nias in the back on one side.

Their opponents would be Tigris and Loewe.

It would depend on the situation, but as much as possible, I wanted to have Nias fight behind Gokame and Taylor.

Especially on the ground, cooperation between the attackers and the tanks would be of utmost importance.

It would be good training for Tigris and Loewe too.

But just in case, I removed their Collars of Torture as a handicap.

Try not to hurt them!

I paid special attention to the fight.

The pincer strikes were strong.

While Tigris and Loewe were able to get away, those pincers could do a lot of damage.

It was quite amazing, considering the level difference.

But as the battle continued, Loewe and Tigris learnt to avoid the attacks.

As expected.

Tigris and Loewe worked together splendidly.

They didn’t look like they got along very well though.

「Gaaah!」

They were especially good at intimidation.

It was good for keeping Nias from singing.

While they used intimidation tactics to keep Gokame and Taylor at bay, they looked for gaps in the lines to attack Nias.

Nias was looking for those gaps too, and used her spear to attack them.

But they were patient, and kept waiting for the opportunity to strike back.

I was glad I took of their Collars of Torture to give them a handicap.

The fight would be very good training for them.

Gokame, Taylor, and Nias fought well too.

They slowly began to change up their positions to adjust to fighting Loewe and Tigris.

Gokame and Taylor moved like the rope of a well bucket.

As one moved backwards to take an attack, the other moved forward.

Any gaps were taken care of by Nias.

Nias slowly got used to the intimidation tactics, and started using spells too.

Yep.

It was a nice fight.

It was especially nice seeing their fighting styles evolve throughout the fight.

The match continued until it was almost midnight.

Their abilities were about evenly matched, and maybe because of all the intimidation tactics, even Gokame’s and Nias’s MP bars were still doing alright.

And what were the fruits of their struggles?

They were pretty good.

Gokame’s team won because of a higher percentage HP remaining, and Gokame got a level-up too.

The stat that went up with the level-up was STR.

I put another point into AGI.
