While I was working on refilling all the potions, I decided to use【Quick Recreate】to make myself some more mana potion bottles.
I first started by synthesising the mana potion liquid.
Next, I moved on to synthesising the potion liquid.
I left refilling the actual potion bottles to Bunraku.
It was a very efficient way to work.
After I finished making the potions, I decided to make a Recovery Pill too.
Guren hadn’t gotten back to me yet.
My eyes were naturally drawn to what was on the desk.
The Snow Beast Mace.
And the Beltfish Dagger.
Yep.
They were truly charming items.
The Snow Beast Mace was especially good for its sheer power factor.
I had enough leftover items in my inventory to make another one…
Hmm…
I wanted to try using both of them.
But I didn’t have the required weapon skills.
It was unfortunate, but…
I pulled up the【Club】skill in my list of acquirable skills.
It cost 5 points.
A bit heavy…
What about the【Dagger】skill?
It cost 8 points… Even heavier.
But how many Bonus Points did I have?
16 points?
I could take the skills.
I could definitely learn the skills.
Oh no, I was actually considering it.
I was seriously considering it.
And what was I to do in that situation?
I learnt the skills.
And immediately activated them.
I went and did it again…
Not again!
There was no helping it… I had no choice but to make another Snow Beast Mace.
Soon, another Snow Beast Mace was lined up on the table.
Wow…
My MP bar was in no good shape at all…
For the time being, I fixed my situation a bit with a mana potion.
My MP bar was at 20%.
I got too confident.
Well, that was fine.
Comparing it to all the worrying I would have gone through otherwise, it was the healthier option.
Emotionally, at least.
I held the Beltfish Dagger in my hands and swung it around me a bit.
The scabbard felt pretty good too.
I repeated the movement of putting the dagger in the sheath a couple times.
Even the word “dagger” didn’t really suit the weapon too well.
It was light.
It felt a bit strange using it.
It was about as heavy as a large knife, but in terms of size, it was clearly a dagger.
Maybe that was just something I had to get used to.
It felt quite different to a Japanese sword.
The handle was made of wood, and its surface was wrapped in a kind of cloth and fixed in place with something like resin.
There was no sword guard.
Even in my left hand, I could comfortably swing the dagger around me.
But getting used to controlling it was a different pattern.
I kept up my strange swinging patterns.
Yeah.
I had no choice but to just get used to it.
Next.
What about the Mace?
My goodness…
It was heavy.
But I could relatively comfortably swing it with two hands.
I could swing it with one hand too, but with a serious lack of control.
I would probably have to use spells to raise my STR stat in order to properly use it..
I used one on myself and tried swinging it with one hand.
Hmm.
It was a weapon that could accumulate a lot of momentum.
A weapon that could probably even bust through a shield.
That kind of weapon.
A simple but effective weapon.
「We’re back!」
Guren’s party came back.
And they brought with them 10 Obsidian Stones… Way too many!
「So, here we are.」
「This is… A mace, right?」
Yep. Their main front-line Fighter fought using a shield and a mace.
The two Fighters to the side wielded spears.
With a higher attack power for the front-line Fighter in the centre, they could barrel through any opposition with much more ease.
「What devastating power…」
「It’s a quite rare item too.」
「A lot heavier than a lot of other maces too…」
「Keith, is this really okay?」
「Why not? They’re your materials, after all.」
Guren put on a worried face.
Well, I did just randomly go and make a weapon out of nowhere.
Oops.
It looked like the cooldown time was over.
I restored my MP bar with a mana potion.
「There’s another one of those here too?」
「Yeah. I just made it. I had the required materials too, after all.」
Yep.
I really wanted to try it out somewhere.
Something to beat up with my new weapons…
What would be a good target?
A Wendigo?.
A Sasquatch?
No.
I couldn’t take the risk of fighting them with new weapons.
And because they were Ice Attribute monsters, the mace wouldn’t be able to reach its full potential.
What about a Silent Ermine?
It was a troublesome opponent, so no.
Maybe Rudy Bats?
I could try using my dagger on that one…
But I wasn’t looking forward to using a heavy mace to intercept flying bats.
What about Bifrost Guards or Einherjar Fighters?
Yeah.
They would be good enemies to test my mace on.
I was looking forward to exploring more of the underground lake, but I wanted to test out my new weapons.
First of all, my new dagger.
I pulled out a spear from my《Item Box》.
I took out a Tonfa of Torture and fastened it on my back.
Just in case, I draped the Black Rope over my shoulder.
I slipped the dagger through a space to the left of my belt.
My Tokkosho went in a similar space to the right of my belt.
Wait, no… I had too many options!
I still had the push daggers and the bagh nakhs too!
I was already looking quite a lot like a hobby hunter.
The time was close to 11am.
I got Bunraku to prepare me some food.
In the meantime, I could prepare my Summon Monster team for some cave exploration.
「Planning on doing some hunting in the cave after this?」
「Yeah. What are you guys planning to do after this?」
「Log out, I suppose. We’ve been hunting in the cave for long enough today.」
「I see…」
Now that they mentioned it, their MP bars were all at less than half.
It felt a bit rude, but I used【Identify】on them too.
They were all at a Job level of 12.
They were levelling up at a nice pace…
「Really, we’re in such debt to you.」
「No, me too… I think I’ll have a shot at using this dagger right away.」
「Huh? You’re planning on using it?」
「Huh? Yes?」
Guren had no words.
「Did you go and learn the【Dagger】weapon skill already?」
「I just got it and activated it.」
「What?」
「What?」
I kind of understood what Guren wanted to say.
But…
It was a bit too late to clarify the misunderstanding.
「O- Okay… Be careful.」
「Thanks. Good job on all your hard work today.」
After we bowed at each other, Guren’s party left and started setting up tents a little further away.
While I ate up the meal Bunraku made me, I went over all my equipment again.
It was good.
The first fight came from a Rudy Bat.
At the entrance to the cave, I changed up my Summon Monster team.
Leaving Senki and Heather, I recalled everyone.
I summoned Jean, Loewe, and Nias.
Let’s take it slow first…
My MP bar was at only 30%.
I was planning on using mana potions whenever the cooldown timer was over.
But if I ran into a Wendigo or Sasquatch in the cave, I would probably have to pull out.
I trusted in【Call Monster】.
Of course, the first swarm of monsters I ran into was a swarm of Rudy Bats.
There were four of them.
How did I fare with the dagger?
Not bad.
I thought the results were really good for a first-time use.
I slashed at the wings of the bats with my dagger and without their wings, the bats all dropped to the ground one by one.
But using it still felt strange.
In terms of lightness, my Tokkosho was of a similar weight…
But the Tokkosho was… A sword.
It was difficult to bridge that gap between what my eyes were seeing and my muscle memory telling me that I was holding a sword.
I just had to get used to it.
I used【Call Monster】again to check my surroundings and kept going.
The spell was quite useful to identify where swarms of Rudy Bats would be.
But unfortunately, the structure of the cave was too simple.
There was no avoiding the Wendigo that was in my way.
But over time, I had managed to use enough MP potions to raise my MP bar back to over 50%.
Could I take on a Wendigo?
I had Senki too.
Even without my Black Rope, taking out just one lone Wendigo probably wouldn’t be too difficult.
I decided to just go for it.
I stepped forward with my dagger as my main weapon.
