Chapter 213 – Part 3

During the hunt the night before, I was especially interested in that skill Telomere used… The one where it turned the area around her into a curtain of darkness.
It seemed to be equivalent to 【Darkness Field】, if I had to compare it to a proper spell.
As expected, Telomere used the skill again to cover up the owls and the swarm of bats in the air.
On the ground, the other Summoners used 【Darkness Field】 too, and got closer to the enemy under the cover of darkness.
We took a moment to cast more spells, and then released area-of-effect attack spells all at once.
The small herd of confused Fighting Bulls was quickly finished off by our Summon Monsters.
We only had a few minutes there.
We had to withdraw, before the rest of the monsters noticed us and would come to hunt us down.
 
But…
On foot, Centaurs, Fighting Bulls, and even Panzer Rhinos were all faster than me.
I had to be smart about our retreat.
We made use of a lot of pitfalls.
I also used wall spells whenever I could.
 
Honestly speaking, having to run away from the monsters lent itself to quite a thrilling situation.
Once we got close enough to the Spring of Mist, I could leave the rest to the Gas Clouds.
It was also a pity that we couldn’t grab the item drops from slaughtering such a large number of Fighting Bulls.
All of us, including our Summon Monsters, were unharmed.

Well, it led to quite a fruitful harvest.
The Summoners I was with all got some nice level-ups from the small fight.
 
Oops, I almost forgot about the status screen in front of me. It was prompting me to choose a stat to put a point into.
The stat that went up with the level-up was STR.
I put another point into VIT.

「Yeah. I think we should focus on retreating as early as possible next time.」

『Next time, huh? Are we going again?』

「We still have some time. We can go again, in the opposite direction this time. It looks like all the monsters on this side of the Spring of Mist are on high alert now.」

『As expected…』

『You really never show mercy, huh.』

『Well, it might be easier this time, now that we know what to do.』

『How much do you usually push yourself…』
 
All sorts of opinions came flying my way.
But…
I did have the title『Battleholic』.
This much striving should be expected for that kind of title.
 
But no matter what, I wanted to make sure that what we were doing would not be a hindrance to daytime combat.
I made up my mind to stop once I saw that our MP bars were at about half. I made that clear with all the Summoners.
That would probably be around 4 am?
 

『Aww, you’re so kind to us today, Keith!』
 
Hey, Adele…
You’re making me sound very bad, you know that?
 
Anyway…
Let’s do our best for just a while longer.
 
 

The second round went a lot better than the first round.
If I had to attribute it to something. I would say…
It was because we managed to take down a Majin.
Just lucky?
Since the monsters that weren’t Enraged scattered after that, it was relatively easy to hunt down any lone monsters.
We even had the freedom to collect the item drops from the Fighting Bulls.
This would be delicious…
It was a meat festival.
We had a lot of people, so the item drop collection process went very efficiently.
 

We went again for a third time.
Since the number of Summoners was also lower, I didn’t try anything reckless. But because of that, the number of monsters we managed to take out was small.
But at least we would come out of each battle nearly unscathed.
We only had to spend MP to take out the monsters with spells.
At this rate, I could probably repeat the process an endless number of times… I thought it was a good idea…
But as expected, the MP bars of my fellow Summoners went to about half after the fourth round.
Yep.
I guess it was time to retreat, according to our agreement.

On a personal level, the fights bore some very nice fruit too.
My own MP bar was still at about 70%, but I decided to call it a night.
The time was 3:30 AM.

「Thanks for all the hard work~!」
 
After we got back to the Spring of Mist, the other Summoners logged out one by one.
What about me?
No hunting just meant the continuation of the Ancient Stone Pillar excavation process.
My MP bar would probably recover considerably by morning.
 
 
But there were some players that came back soon after logging out.
Namely, Adele and Irina.
 
「What’s wrong?」

「Breakfast!」

「The stew is going to take some time to prepare, after all.」

「Huh.」
 
I asked what kind of stew they were making, and they told me it was a stew of various meats.
I had no idea what they were talking about.
All I knew was that it involved me using spells on the food.
 
While I was working on the Ancient Stone Pillar, they sat down beside me, and asked me to use 【Aging】 on the ingredients in the stew.
Yep. It sounded like a very nice idea.
Apparently, it would help enhance the flavour.
 
「The secondary magic skills have some nice spells too, even spells that can come into use like this…」

「Yeah, and before I realised it, you two even went and learnt 【Spacetime Magic】…」

「Hey, but that was just because we saw you, Keith.」

「When I look at you use those spells… I can’t help but want to copy that!」

「But no matter how many magic skills we get, somehow, 【Summon Magic】 never lags behind, yeah? Unlike the other skills…」
 

Yeah.
They weren’t learning from my mistakes!
Well maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration. Both Adele and Irina were simply just looking to expand their vocabulary of spells.
They had learnt from me that it was a bad idea to go and learn all the magic skills, and they were following that advice, to some degree.
There was an upper limit to the number of spells too. It wasn’t imposed by the game, but I did feel like I had more spells than I knew how to properly use.
What was this feeling…?
Regret? It’s far too late for that.
But I had a feeling that everyone had a bit of that kind of psychology. The kind that makes you want to get a full set of something.
The kind of psychology that collectors especially suffer from.
Thinking about it that way, I could think of myself on the healthier side, actually.
 
In any case, what were the magic skills the two of them had?
Adele had Fire Magic, Light Magic, Dark Magic, along with the secondary magic skill Space-time Magic.
Irina had Earth Magic, Light Magic, Dark Magic, along with the secondary magic skill Space-time Magic.
They asked me to rate their future plans too.
Adele was aiming for Lava Magic, while Irina was aiming for Lightning Magic.
Yeah.
Both of them were very useful magic skills.
I didn’t really think of myself as the best man to ask for a take on the topic…
 
「What if you two go for magic skills that complement each other?」

「Complement each other…?」

「You two always do everything together anyway, right? How about having one take Wind Magic and the other take Water Magic?」
 

I could only come up with one suggestion to throw at the two of them.
After some thinking, the two of them got themselves new magic skills. Adele got herself Water Magic, while Irina learnt Wind Magic.
With regard to secondary magic skills, that would let Adele learn Steam Magic in the future, and Irina would learn Lightning Magic.
Well, it was a good and sound strategy.
I really didn’t feel like any of the secondary magic skills were particularly superior.
Recently, I had been using my Tokkoshos to distribute the growth of my spells as evenly as possible.
The Tokkoshos definitely made it nice and easy to incorporate spells into a fighting style that didn’t really need spells.
 
Thanks to my Tokkoshos and the variety of situations I often found myself in, I didn’t have to worry about magic skills very much.
Having so many spells also usually meant a lot of thinking about which one would be the best one for the occasion.
Fortunately, the choice was very clear, having received the request for specifically the 【Aging】 spell.
Using it on the stew caused the soup to nicely change into a delicious colour.
I started salivating.
 

What was the result?
I meant to just have a spoon to taste, but before I realised it, I ended up eating a whole meal.
It was very delicious.
The taste was a very enjoyable way to start the morning.
