Come on… Where were the info screens…?
As we got closer to the mound, they properly appeared.
It looked like the mound was an Area Portal after all. An untouched Area Portal too.

I didn’t really concern myself with the info screens that much.
Where were the monsters going to appear from?
I would have to change my weapon depending on what the enemy looked like, after all.

What would come out of the mound?

As I stared at the mount, I was surprised to see the mound itself start to shake.
The soil of the mound peeled off the ground, and something pitch black appeared in its stead.
Looking closer, the mound looked like just a giant lump of fur.
Hmm?

But my eyes were very quickly drawn to something else.
The mound was filled with red markers.
How many monsters were inside this mound…?

Well, at least I could use【Identify】on them.
Some kind of ape?
But something was different.
Their fur was pitch black.
Looking at them, their silhouettes reminded of orang-utans, albeit with strangely short legs.
They had one eye on the right and left side of their faces, along with one eye on the top and bottom, forming a cross of sorts.
There was another eye in the centre of that cross of eyes on their faces.
Yeah.
It clearly wasn’t anything normal.

All the monsters got up. I didn’t notice it earlier, but not only was the whole mound was covered in them, there was also a special-looking creature in the very middle.

I immediately knew I would have to use some Martial Arts Skills if I wanted to make it out alive.

「Nias! Sing!」

The wolves all stopped and howled in unison to intimidate our enemies.
Amidst all the chaos, Senki screamed a high-pitched scream as he rushed into battle.
In a completely different musical range, Nias’s singing flowed along with the sounds of a lyre.

Almost as if they were resisting us, the black apes screamed back at us.
Their voices were very unpleasant to listen to.

All the Summon Monsters rushed forward.
I did the same.
As I ran forward, I pulled a dagger out of its sheath.
It was the Light Quartz Dagger.
It was set to【Lightning Magic】.
The translucent blade shot out occasional bursts of light, almost like a glow stick.

Well then.
Would the dagger be strong enough to cut these apes?

「Volcanic Blast!」

There were a lot more monsters than I expected, no matter where I turned, there were many of them running at me.
Our Summon Monsters were all different, belonging to different masters, but they still worked together very well.
Watching the wolf pack fight was an especially wonderful sight.
At the front of the pack was Volff.

But where was the Exorcising Priest?
It was standing behind all the other monsters, shooting attacks at us behind the cover of the Five-eyed Apes.
The Exorcising Priest was mostly shooting strong gales of wind into the sky, preventing our Summon Monsters in the sky from properly supporting our attack.
The number of monsters was extraordinary.
But they were more of an annoying distraction than a threat.

On my left and right were Senki and Shishiku.
They easily intercepted all the attacks coming our way.
But the Five-eyed Apes would never come at us in a one-on-one fight.
There would always be a couple of them coming in all at once.
Well, on their own, they weren’t nearly strong enough to challenge us.
But then again, maybe comparing them to Senki or Shishiku was a bit unfair.

I had a feeling I was right to choose the dagger as my main weapon.
Perhaps the mace could have been better to take them out with…
But it was good. I could take them out at a good rate.

Thinking about it more thoroughly…
The Tokkosho really was a sword.
I tried using the Light Quartz Dagger the same way I would use the Tokkosho, but it would always carry with it a very unnatural feeling.
Yeah.
The Light Quartz Dagger really was a weapon to cut with.
I couldn’t thrust the dagger forward the same way I tended to do with my Tokkosho.

Ah, it wasn’t really the best time for me to test out my weapon.

「Volcanic Blast!」

I shot another area-of-effect attack spell forward.
Shishiku used his fire breath attack too.

I wanted to get rid of the annoying Exorcising Priest as quickly as possible.
I dove into the gap in the swarm of Five-eyed Apes that our attack spells opened up, and ran at the Exorcising Priest.
Senki and the wolf pack followed after me.

Our encirclement was still going strong.
Well then.
I guess I could destroy them from the inside, to my heart’s content.

I realised something about the Exorcising Priest.
I managed to get to it and bring it down very far, but right before I dealt the finishing blow, it gave me a parting gift.
I looked at my abnormal status conditions, and saw one named “Vanishing Mist”.

Yes?
Did it just use some kind of【Seal Magic】spell at me?

From that moment, I looked around me to find the surrounding Five-eyed Apes transforming into strange shapes… They clearly looked like more formidable enemies.
That’s bad…
I knew something was wrong when my senses were starting to go berserk too.
I was too late to notice the black mass in front of me, and I took the attack head-on.
Oh dear…
The direct hit hurt quite a bit.
I wouldn’t be able to do anything on my own for a while.

The Five-eyed Ape that attacked me was pounced on by Shishiku from the side. Shishiku was probably devouring it, but I couldn’t see very clearly.
For the time being, I would have to strengthen myself again.

Senki jumped in front of me to guard me.
Recovery?
I could leave that for later.
I chose and started casting a spell.

I tried to slash at the Five-eyed Ape in front of me…
But my depth perception was seriously flawed.
I thought I managed to cut off its arms, but looking closer, I wasn’t too sure. My equipment was certainly helping a lot though.
But the cut was three inches away from where I intended to first place my dagger.
Oh no…

「Gravity Mail!」

I used another spell to strengthen myself.
But even then, it wasn’t anything compared to what we started the battle with.
I still had four Physical Enchant Spells, and two Mental Enchant spells to cast.
And on top of that, there were plenty of Five-eyed Apes running at me from all directions.
But my body movements were starting to get better again.

「Regenerate!」

For the time being, I had to focus on recovering my HP bar.
I could gain some time to cast other spells from that.

Blasts of smoke and fire rose from my left and right side.

『Leave the right to me!』

『I’ll cover your left!』

It was Adele and Irina.
Behind me, some Summoners were coming to support me too.
I even saw Nias.
Her singing was now turning into a choral piece.
She was singing together with the other Mermaids.

With the Exorcising Priest out of the picture, Helix and the other Summon Monsters in the sky were free to dive attack the Five-eyed Apes.
With the flying Summon Monsters keeping the Five-eyed Apes in place, the Summoners on horseback could easily run about, dealing the finishing blows.
The Five-eyed Apes were still completely surrounded, both on the outside and the inside.

It seemed like most of them soon realised this fact.

「Don’t let them get away, alright?」

『Got it!』

『Yeah! Let’s take ’em out!』

We still had a lot of headroom on our end. Taking them out together would be quite easy.

It didn’t take long for the remaining monsters to be completely eradicated.
A landslide victory?
Looking at the result as a whole, it might have seemed that way.
But I was honestly quite frustrated.
I thought I would get to roll a lot more, but after taking that direct hit from a Five-eyed Ape in the middle of the fight hurt very much.
Not just in terms of not getting to fight as much, but actual, physical pain.
