It was a concept first developed in gladiator fights in Roman times.
Well, any gladiator at that age would be quite a sight to behold.
They probably chose the fighting styles based less on effectiveness, and more on entertainment value.

The harpoon looks like it has a lot of thorns on it, I wonder if pulling out the harpoon ever gets tough…?

Yeah, the harpoon is definitely designed to stick to whatever it has pierced.
But because of that, there’s more damage when you try to forcefully pull it out.
Against other players, I think a proper spear would work better though LOL

Horseback archery has been a staple of Japanese tradition for a long time, after all.
And then a spear or a lance too.
I don’t know why, but a sword, mace, or axe just don’t cut it for me.

Well, pole weapons do have their place in a fight.
I suppose the best weapon depends more on the terrain than anything else…
You can’t run into the sea with armour and a shield and sword, after all.

Ah won’t having experience with kendo in real life make using a sword in-game easier?

I don’t have any experience with using a real sword to cut a person in real life, so sorry, I can’t help you there…
But I guess knowing the proper stance can help?
I know some players who have experience in fencing, but they tell me there’s still a difference fighting in-game and in real life.

Yeah… There’s always about a stone’s throw difference between doing stuff in-game and in real life.
I’m not sure how much a stone’s throw is supposed to be though.

Ah, when grappling, having real experience works out very nicely!
The movements feel more real, and there’s clearly more power.
It doesn’t feel strange at all.
Although without your sense settings at 100% they lose a lot of oomph. There’s a lot of moves relying on pain, after all.

If you think about it, is there even remote control going into this game?
Like, looking at the NPCs, don’t they all move like guard robots?
Almost like some kind of healthcare robot…

Or the kind used in places where it’s dangerous to have humans around.

Well, you can call them military robots, but at the end of the day, they protect humans, so that’s cool lol
But even if there is some remote control going, where would the governing body be anyway?

Yeah, there’s been many times where these kinds of VR games were shot down by a local school board somewhere…
The admins aren’t really in a place to directly intervene on Japanese culture.
We’re just barely being tolerated XD

You know, as someone in the nursing field, this kind of VR gear is pretty good for helping the elderly too.
They can be at home while they tour the world.
There’s even some of them spending their days playing shooters LOL

Doesn’t it all depend on how people use the technology?
Thinking about it that way, this VR stuff is kind of similar to a kitchen knife.

The Majin in the east are getting pretty rare.
The event is about to end… I can smell it in the atmosphere. It’s a very thick smell.

I don’t know what you’re talking about, but I think the mangrove forest in the south is just as much “pretty fun” for Summon Monsters.
Snakes are very much required to tackle all the giant trees.

We just finished our mass migration today.
I think we’re only going to start hunting in earnest starting tomorrow.
I spent the rest of today guiding some Summoners around the map.

The forests in the south are no joke. The uneven terrain is actually the biggest problem right now.
But oh well, nothing to do but keep going.
I’m looking forward to seeing what my snake can do.

The Killer Apes are quite annoying to deal with, but dealing with them is still possible.
Really, the terrain is the biggest problem.

If you guys aren’t used to the terrain yet why don’t you form a Union of two parties?
You’ll have some trouble if you need to fight Majin while dealing with the terrain.
