Chapter 228 Part 3
In the next moment, something unexpected, but quite welcome has occurred.
The Pteranodon stiffened and stopped moving, as if something has frozen him in place.
This effect…
I wonder if it was due to the attack that I just did?
When I examined it, a small thunder marker was displayed next to its head.
This is an icon symbolizing that the target has been paralyzed.
Alright guys, you know the drill, it’s gangbanging time!
As I was whacking the enemy with my cane from atop Zangetsu’s back, Naias has thrust her spear and pierced its eyes.
Volff also joined us on the offensive, and soon the Pteranodon was dead, after it suffocated due to Rig still remaining inside of its body.
《【Grapple】 skill Level Up!》
《【Horse Riding】 skill Level Up!》
Oh sweet, some of my skills Leveled Up as a result of that battle just now.
Anyway, now that it was over and we had a moment of momentary peace, a certain thought has popped into my mind and refused to let go of me.
I want to take it off.
I want to take off my armor.
The armor I’m usually wearing, Fighting Bull’s Leather Armor, has practically turned into a second skin for me.
But I’m beginning to see that while its thickness provides excellent defense, it’s doing next to nothing for my mobility, and that is starting to become a serious issue for me.
Not only because it would be nice to move much more swiftly during combat, because increased maneuverability is always a good thing, but also because when we are riding on Zangetsu, Naias always sits behind me grabbing onto my waist not to fall off, and when she’s doing that her boobs are pressing themselves onto my back, and with all that leather between us I simply can’t fully enjoy that wonderful sensation.
So yeah, sorry, but I’m not sorry for what I stated above. Just deal with it or go home.
My point is, I should try making some thinner armor for myself, the kind that would allow me to enjoy boobs without any issue and increased my mobility as a bonus.
Oh, and by the way, if you’re wondering if the Pteranodon left some Drop Items after it died, then don’t do that because it left jack shit again.
So yeah, you can probably guess how I’m feeling right now.
Now that we know what works best for fighting Pteranodons, maybe it would be best to try fighting more of them by using Call Monster.
Hmm, there is not that many of them, but they are present, nonetheless.
If I am to fight them and avoid their attacks effectively, then I don’t think that staying on Zangetsu’s back is going to be a wise decision.
It’s not that this is an opponent we cannot beat.
No, the problem lies elsewhere, and is actually quite simple at that.
It’s just that the pterosaurs are tough enemies.
See? Simple and clean, right?
True, it does not have any nasty attacks like let’s say Sphinx or Spinx, but I still think that it is just as troublesome as those two.
Thankfully we saw that Cursed Shadow was quite effective against it.
That information alone can make future battles against it that much easier.
I’m sure that there must be other monsters around here as well.
It would be straight up weird if the entire area consisted entirely of one type of monster after all.
I just hope we’ll be able to get to them before my spells will wear off.
See, there it is!
I found another one, but it is passive.
To be 100% truthful, Helix was the one who spotted it from the air. Good job.
Having a monster capable of conducting air reconnaissance really is a tremendous help.
It looks to be another dinosaur.
It might not be the size of a Tyrannosaurus Rex or something along those lines, but it was still the size of a small car, and it probably weighted just as much.
Might as well identify it to see what am I going to throw myself at, right?
Pachycephalosaurus Lv.3
Monster Passive
Battle Position: Ground
What in the hell are you, dude?
That’s the first time I’m seeing such a mouthful name.
That alone wouldn’t have told me anything about it, but it’s appearance was very distinctive.
It was bipedal, and slightly bigger and thicker than a Raptor.
But those features do not matter all that much to me.
Because the most eye-catching of it’s features was its head.
It looked like this guy was bald.
Like some kinda old fart!
But bald might be a bad word for it, since I’m sure that there was no dinosaur that was hairy to begin with.
But the fact remains.
Pachycephalosaurus’s head is white and smooth as if it was bald.
I know I should be disturbed or terrified at its sight, but for some reason the only thing I can feel towards it is sympathy.
Well, uhm… since it is passive and I don’t really feel like killing it, maybe I will just let it go?
Yeah, if it’s not attacking us and just minds its own business, then it will be best not to provoke it unless we’ll have no other choice.
For now such an action is unnecessary, so we’ll just leave it be and be on our way.
We encountered another enemy almost immediately after leaving the area with the Pachycephalosaurus.
That one was aggressive, so it looks like we won’t be able to avoid battling it.
If that’s the case, then I’ll just charge it head on!
Pachycephalosaurus Lv.2
Monster Target Subjugation Active
Battle Position: Ground
That being said, before we actually engage it in battle, I’d like to try hitting it with an attack spell.
Judging by the way it looks, this guy might be pretty fast.
But I have confidence that Zangetsu will be faster still.
And that means that Volff and Helix should be able to catch up to him as well.
However…
This dinosaur seems to be having both strength and speed.
All in all, he’s comparable to the Panzer Rhino, only more flexible.
And it looks like it can gain quite the speed boost when t starts running.
If we want to start dealing damage to it, we have to stop it from moving first.
And we absolutely cannot allow ourselves to be careless.
[Root Snare!]
Unlike the Panzer Rhino, who got caught up in it almost immediately, this guy tried to roll away from the roots which shot towards it.
Obviously it failed to dodge them, but to its credit, even when they converged around it, it did not give up and got back up on its feet.
Man talk about some serious guts!
Volff and Helix were about to launch another attack, but I ordered them to keep their distance for now and refrain from attacking any further.
Now then, I have to plan my next move carefully.
I’m afraid that with this much tenacity, we’d still be in for a vicious counterattack even if we tried to surround it.
Okay, so I think we’ll do this next!
I opened up the 《Item・Box》 and got the Staff of Torture out of it.
Since I am still horse-riding, it might be better to limit its movements some more, just to be on the safe side.
[Thorn Fence!]
It’s another spell I used in a battle against the Panzer Rhino.
But I missed.
Or rather, the bald dinosaur jumped over it with ease!
Hey!
Bald, but amazing!
No, it doesn’t matter if it’s bald or not.
So right now we appear to be at a bit of a standstill.
I can keep hitting it with spells, but something is telling me that it won’t do the trick.
I have to be more creative.
The size and weight of the opponent is roughly the same as the Panzer Rhino’s.
Or a Fighting Bull.
And it probably hits like a truck.
What would he use to attack us?
Most probably its head.
Then a headbutt?
Or would it swing it like some kinda giant hammer?
When we were running in parallel, it launched an attack.
I felt a cold sweat running down my back.
If it hits me, it’ll be bad.
I have no doubts about that.
I was only able to avoid it because of Zangetsu
What would have happened if I were to engage it in CQC on the ground?
I don’t even want to imagine that.
It’s an attack during which it swings its head.
There seems to be a brief gap before and after that.
So we’ll have to aim for that interval with my next few spells!
[Root Snare!]
[Thorn Fence!]
With the combination of those two skills, the enemy is now pinned to the ground without any option to move whatsoever.
That combination was a kind of a gamble on my side, but I sure am glad that it worked.
So what did we learn form it? That even if the enemy is similar to a Panzer Rhino, we cannot measure the two of them with the same tape and always make appropriate adjustments to my battle plans.
The bald dinosaur that cannot move desperately tries to set itself free by rolling to the sides.
The only part of it that isn’t covered in vines and thorns is it’s tail, but as long as we stay in front of it, it shouldn’t be able to hit us with it.
And of course, we can all whack away at it in the meantime.
And so we did.
Right until Zangetsu decided it was high time to end it by curb-stomping its skull.

Thanks for the treat.
