Chapter 230 Part 1

After we travelled some more, we happened upon quite a peculiar monster.
It was something that really stood out from the rest, even though it was the middle of the night.

Adandara Lv.3
Monster Target Subjugation Passive
Battle Position: Ground Darkness Attribute

It was a cat.
A really, really large cat.
That is the best way I can describe it.
Thanks to my Night Eye ability, I was able to discern that its fur was light-brown in color, making it blend with the surrounding darkness to some extent.

It’s passive, huh?
In a stark contrast to the literal legion of enemies we have encountered not that long ago, this time there was only one enemy.
That means that if we choose to engage it, then the battle should be significantly easier for us, since we have the advantage in numbers.
At least that was what I have initially thought, until I saw that Volff was acting unusually tense, keeping himself close to the ground and growling all the time.
What is it buddy? What’s wrong?
Is the enemy we’re facing that dangerous?

Well then, if that’s how it is, then we’ll proceed as follows:
Obsidian and Teromea will launch a surprise attack on the passive kitty, while the rest of is going to keep our distance for now, joining in then the initial attack is going to prove successful.
Sound’s like a pretty nice plan if you asked me.

However.
Our opponent proved to be more terrifying than we have initially anticipated.
But that was something that we were about to find out in the most painful way possible.

Obsidian’s surprise attack from behind proved to be successful, and Teromea followed after it with a roar of its own.
Just like I ordered them to, Volff and Tigris rushed towards the Adandara while Gengetsu supported them from a distance with his elemental projectiles, in this particular case of light variety.
I followed soon after them.
I made it just in time to deal the finishing blow with my Glass Light Sword.
That’s right.
In the end, I was the one who killed it.

But in the next moment, I saw that Obsidian has died.
Eh?
How? Why?!

His corpse had no obvious signs of being attacked from anywhere, but even despite that he still kicked the bucket.
After a few seconds, Obsidian’s body disappeared.
He has been called back as a result of death.

I… I don’t understand what has happened here.
We totally overwhelmed the enemy just now, so why did it end up like this?!

I tried examining the monster’s corpse before it disappeared.
Size-wise, it was not even half the size of Tigris.
It looked like your simple, by-the-book oversized cat.
No matter how you looked at it, I couldn’t have been anything more than a cat!
If you looked at it hard enough, you could even say that it was pretty cute!
But… now that I look more closely, there is something strange going on with that guy’s eyes.
Despite being dead for sure, its eyeballs were still glowing with an ominous golden light.

I struck my knife into its body.
I wasn’t even trying to be delicate about it.
I know that doing something like that won’t increase my chances of obtaining Drop Items, but I’ll be damned if it didn’t feel good.
Oh, and apparently it did work.

【Material】Skin of the Dead-Eyed Cat, Quality C+ Rarity 4 Weight 1+
Skin of Adandara. It is said to have the effect of preventing instant death.

Something like that has dropped from it.
I feel like that flavor text might be a hint.
Dead-eyed Cat?
Preventing instant death?

No way.
Dies this cat possess the ability to kill its opponents with its sight alone?!

To think that the day would come when I would have to face such an enemy.
If that is the case, then I do not have time to properly mourn Obsidian’s passing or to summon him again.
I have to scan the area with Call Monster at once!

There they are.
Cats.
Lots and lots of friggin cats!
There is not as many of them as Ghouls and Goras from earlier, but it’s still quite a lot.
And speaking of them, they are also here.
As well as the Succubus & Incubus pair.

What my countermeasure should be?
Looks like I’ll have no other choice but to use the remaining Psycho Pods in my possession on everyone who is still alive.
I also summoned Florin in the defeated Obsidian’s place.
Of course, I strengthened it with spells right off the bat.
I can say that today I have been taught a valuable lesson that I’m going to use in the future to avoid something like that happening ever again.
Yeah, that’s what I’m going to…
SHIT! FUCKING GODDAMN CUNT!
That cat!!!!!
I swear to God, the next time I see it, I’M GOING TO SKIN IT ALIVE AND TURN IT INTO A SHAMISEN CASE!!!!!!

Thankfully, I didn’t have to wait long for my shot at revenge.
This time however, we were the target of the surprise attack.
Volff, to be specific.

I recognized what the cat was trying to do right off the bat.
It opened its eyes widely, and they shone with the same golden light like the ones of that previous one we have killed.
Volff? Did it got you too?
No, looks like he’s OK for now.
That makes me feel a little relieved.

Now guys, let’s FUCK THIS PUSSY UP!
On my mark, Florin bit into the base of the cat’s tail, and Teromea launched its mallet at its belly.
Tigris and Volff followed right after them, leaving me well behind.
Whoa guys, I didn’t know you were craving revenge so much as well!

Well, whatever I guess.
As long as it keeps them motivated I have no objections.
Also, the countermeasures we have taken against instant death debuff seem to be working just fine, so while the Psycho Pods are still active let’s use call monster and do a little spring cleaning, shall we?
And be as violent as you like about it.
I am in no mood for mercy right now.
Not for them at least.

Just by using that one Call Monster, we managed to attract a considerable amount of cats towards us.
As a result, I have accumulated a large amount of their skins.
Unfortunately, that meant that our movement speed has gone down.
We cannot have that.
We need to pick up our pace.
But I also want to hunt all of them down, leaving none of those bastards alive.
What a dilemma.

Okay, for the time being, let’s just try taking as many of them as we can down while we continue to move forward.

The time is now 11:50 PM.
We have finally arrived at what seems to be the center of the S3W1 map.
I wanted to feel happy about that fact, but instead, another emotion was filling my mind to the brim.

It was exhaustion. And irritation that one of my monsters literally had to die for us to get here.

Terrain-wise, this looks to be a basin.
A ball of light floats at its edge like a magical bonfire.
The area itself is very spacious.
There are no players around, and no tents as well.
This map’s Area Portal has most likely not been activated as well.

Maintaining a maximum level of vigilance, I scan the surrounding area with Sense Magic.
For the time being, let’s call both Gengetsu and Florin back.
Also, it looks like the abnormal status that has been plaguing Senki and Shishiko has finally dissipated. Nice.
If that’s the case, then let’s summon them again.
When I finish buffing everyone with spells again, we will begin our descent towards the bottom of the basin.

Now then.
Maybe it is high time for us to finally go on that long overdue rampage?
