Chapter 231 Part 1

《You have 3 friend messages.》

I logged in at 6:30 AM.
When I did, messages from Adel, Irina and Lambda were already waiting for me.

『I’m currently at the Grey Forest in the S3 map!Monster hunting is going exceptionally well thanks to the Summoner Connection!』

Adel’s message was the first one in order.
It had a picture attached to it: two Black Wolves biting into the corpse of a Black Santa.
The surroundings were dyed black with the blood spraying from its wounds.

『Monster hunting at the lighthouse near the sea is in full swing! I won’t lose to the fisherman in here!』

As usual, Irina’s message was so full of energy, if not a tad bit unusual.
It also had a picture attached to it.
Just like in Adel’s case, it was a photo of a defeated monster.
It looked like a Pantomimer that has been strangled to death by Irina’s Venom Python, making it look kinda like he was being fished with a fishing rod.
I don’t know why, but it made me sympathize with it.
But just a little bit.

『Currently back to PK hunting。I hope that things will calm down a bit thanks to my efforts.』

Hmm…
Looks like Lambda has return to his PK hunting side quest.
I think that lately those are the only kind of jobs he’s been accepting, actually.
『Being a part of so many people’s revenge dramas is normally not my thing, but if it’s for keeping the peace among the players, then I don’t really mind. Truth to be told, I’m beginning to take a liking to it.』

That was the statement which closed his message.
I see.
Looks like he’s enjoying it quite a lot.
But it’s kinda sad that most of the PK players engage in PK’ing purely for revenge, you know?
But enough about such serious staff.
Time to have ourselves some breakfast, so let’s summon Bunraku for that!

Now that that’s done, what should we do for today?
For starters, let’s hunt some monsters around the S3W1 map throughout the daytime.

There is one thing that I want to try today.
My newest spell, Fly.
I wonder how is it going to feel to soar through the sky like a bird?
But maybe instead of using it right of the bat it might be better to save it for later?
I summoned Volff, Zangetsu, Helix and Gengetsu.
Regrettably, Obsidian still cannot be selected from the list of my Summoned Monsters.
I think we’ll have to make do without him until the evening.
Yup, that sounds good.
Once he’ll be available for summoning again we’ll be able to really go wild again.

Anyway, it’s high time to munch down on Bunraku’s food.
When I finished eating all the dishes I returned Bunraku and summoned Cotouly.
Now then.
Time to go hunting I guess.

The first enemy we happened upon?
That fucking cat from earlier!
Well, technically it is called Adandara, but I refuse to call it any other name than a fucking cat!
Succubus and Incubus are also present.
Ghoul and Gura as well.

Fighting the fucking cat (Adandara) is supper uncomfortable, but as long as I have a steady supply of Psycho Pods we should be able to manage just fine.
Okay now, deep breaths, remember that you cannot go wild here just yet.
Against those enemies, a calm and collected approach is going to be much better.
So just go calmly here, and everything should be just fine.

Our enemies behavioral pattern seems to be different during the day.
Even though the cats are present on the map, none of them try to approach us.
Are they all… passive?
Well, I guess that makes sense since almost all cats just sleep during the day, but still…
They are peaceful for now, but I don’t know if that won’t change after I’ll approach them.
Maybe some preventive measures will be necessary, just to be on the safe side?

This time Succubus and Incubus do not appear to be in pairs this time.
Both of them are alone.
Ghouls and Guras however still seem to be moving in groups.
Maybe there are even some unidentified monsters among them.

I climbed on top of Zangetsu’s back and aimed towards the north.
I haven’t seen the S2W1 map yet.
But before that, let’s hunt some fucking cats with Call Monster.
I have to deliver on my threat from earlier and make myself a hat out of its goddamn skin! Or maybe a shamisen case would be better? Eh, it doesn’t matter.
As long as I’ll be able to kill some of them I will be fully satisfied!
It’s my first time seeing Adandara in broad daylight.
It’s fur looks very nice indeed.
But there is one big problem.
It can cast Instant Death with its eyes.
It is a thoroughly dangerous monster.
I am still nervous about fighting it even after taking protective measures against its abilities.

Helix and Cotouly were chasing after it together with Volff.
Of course, their aim was to bait it towards me and Zangetsu.
Damaging it wit Swordfish Spear was surprisingly easy.
No, I really mean it.
It was literally laughably easy.
I’m afraid that I might get used to it, forgetting about using Psycho Pods as a result.

As we were circling one another, at one point it stopped and closed its eyes.
When it opened them again, they were shining with that eerie golden light which killed Obsidian before.
Motherfucker tried casting Instant Death on me again!
Yup.
I’m not going to fall for the same trick twice, you big dumb idiot!
It is too dangerous not to be using Psycho Pods when fighting against it after all.

When hunting down Succubuses and Incubuses, we did our best to try and keep them separated.
As long as they were deprived from the possibility of supporting one another, battling them was not hard at all.
This is perfectly fine with me.

As for the groups of Ghouls and Guras, managing them might require a bit of work, but it’s nothing that I won’t be able to pull off.

But then, a monster I have never seen before appeared before my eyes.

Lesser Ogre Lv.4
Monster Target Subjugation Active
Battle Position: Ground

Okayyyyy, what do I do with this one?
I have to say, it got me a little bit interested in it.
Is it strong? Is it safe to fight it one on one?
Nope.
Have some self control, for crying out loud.
It is exactly that type of behaviour that got us into trouble yesterday, remember?
But who cares, I’m going to do it either way!

I somehow magaged to fight the Lesser Ogre by myself.
That’s right.
All I had to do was to inflict enough damage upon him so that his self-healing wouldn’t negate my DPS.
Fighting it with a spear while still riding on horseback was a surprisingly viable strategy.
The enemy itself was powerful, tough and quick, but it easily fell victim to Volff’s restraint.
And as long as I’m riding on horseback, none of its hard-hitting, but slow attacks are going to reach me while I will have no problem thrusting him to death.
The thing is…
I don’t want a cheap victory like that.
I want to fight in in close quarters combat!
I want to prove both to it and to myself that I am the superior, stronger one here!
I want to do is so badly that my fists are getting all itchy!
I can’t stand it!
I have to do something about it or else!
But I have to endure it!
I need to keep myself calm!
This prey is no longer just my own!

We have to act quickly before it breaks out of the restraint.
This is when Cotouly swoops in like the Main Character to steal the title of MVP.
It seems like he is aiming for the Lesser Ogre’s eyes.
And his needles hit them directly like a splendid bullseye!
Oh God, I don’t even want to imagine how painful that must be!

[Guooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!]

Its anger-filled roars were both ear-shattering and terrible to hear.
But that gave me a perfect opportunity to launch an assault on my own!
It would have been a shame to make use of them, so I ordered Zangetsu to circle the bastard and went for a back attack with my spear.
And just like that, the mighty Lesser Ogre was now dead.
And just like always, the amount of Drop Item I managed to get from him was exactly… yes, that’s right, you guessed! Zero!
But let’s not get discouraged here.
I will try fighting it a few more time to see if my luck will finally turn for the better.
Spoiler Alert: it didn’t.
Fuck, why isn’t there a rule that if you’re encountering monsters for the first time you’re guaranteed to get a rare drop from them?!

Alright, that’s it!
Moving on to try the Fly spell now!
