Chapter 232 Part 2
「Our next opponent is going to be Spinks. It is a big guy, but he is quite easy to fight as long as you won’t let its size intimidate you.」
「Um…」
「Just to make sure that we are on the same page here: how large are we talking about, exactly?」
「About the size of a Skeleton Mammoth. They tend to roam the skies on this particular map.」
「Ehhhhh?!」
「Say what now?!」
「It’s going to be okay, trust me. Once you take away its wings, it will be a smooth sailing from there. Afterwards, you just have to focus on attacking its body with spells from the distance.」
Meanwhile, the Spinx’s shadow was already looming over our location.
Hmm…
I know I was the one who said that everything will be fine as long as we’ll stay calm…
But this guy is seriously huge!
「Um, Keith? Is it really okay for us to fight this guy?」
「I can’t 「identify」 anything about it other than its name!」
「Umu. Everything’s going to be okay, you can trust me on this one. After all, I’ve hunted this beastie before.」
「You hunted something like that all by yourself?!」
「Pretty much, yeah. Now, let it go through with its first attack. I’m going to take care of it.」
With me here we shouldn’t have any problems bringing the Spinx down, so I already started making plans for the nearest future in my head.
When this battle is successfully finished, our next step is going to be a battle against the Sphinx.
And after we’ll be done with that, all that will remain will be to challenge the opening of the Area Portal for this map.
This whole adventure may have started because I kinda tricked (or should I say brainwashed) everyone else into helping me, but it looks like the end result of my little scheme might be even better than what I have initially expected.
Haruna’s Mermaid began to sing, filling my entire body with the sensation of growing in strength.
Nice support, Haruna!
「True Practiced Spirit!」, 「Breath!」, 「Meditate!」
I added the martial arts into the mix as well.
What about the monster?
It has many dark spheres floating around it.
So taking them out first might be not that bad of an idea.
「Spell Vibration!」
In an instant, all of the dark spheres disappear as if they were never there.
Good job, me.
Now for an actual attack!
Heather summoned her wind blades and aimed them at the Spinx’s wings.
Next, a lump of flame and a ball of light have been shot towards it as well.
The monster was hit by all of them, which caused him to stagger in the air as it tried to fix its position back.
But his altitude was decreasing with each second as he flailed about in midair.
「Whirlwind!」
Now that it has come to it, I guess it’s time for me to have a go at it from close range!
Was my attack just now effective?
It sure was!
The Spinx crashed into the ground with a loid bang!
Since it is downed, my monsters rushed towards it to latch onto its limbs.
Hey heay you guys, maybe slow down a little, okay?!
You’re making it increasingly harder for me to aim my next spell!
「I’m going to use Pitfall! When I do, make sure to draw this guy towards it with your Summoned Monsters!」
「「Got it!」」
「And whatever you do, make sure to look out for its tail! It has poison needle on it!」
I select Pitfall and execute it.
As the casting of the spell began, I rode towards the Spinx on Zangetsu’s back.
The Spinx’s tail really had a poisonous needle at the end.
It was about the size of a lance.
Yup.
If that thing hits you, I bed being poisoned won’t be the only thing that you’ll have to worry about.
And finally, the casting of Pitfall is complete.
Now let’s see how is it going to perform.
「Now! Everyone, fall back!」
On my mark, all the members and my Summoned Monsters make a hasty retreat while keeping enough distance to make sure that the Spinx will still chase after them.
Ok.
Let’s get this show on the road, shall we?
「Pitfall!」
The moment I shouted that, the monster’s upper half disappeared into the hole that appeared in the ground in front of it.
Of course, it tried to climb out of it by hooking its front legs at the edge of the hole.
But I won’t let it do that!
One after another, arrows pierced the Spinx’s face.
Attack spells also hit it square in its ugly mug.
Volff bites into the monster’s legs, and Helix smacks the back of its head with his beak from midair.
What a splendid example of cooperation.
Maybe I won’t even have to step in myself, which is a kind of a bummer if I have to be honest.
So, in order not to become completely useless here…
「Attribute Seal!」
I will do this!
This is something that I wanted to try for quite some time now.
As a result, the Spinx’s red enemy marker has overlapped with another small marker, But I am unable to see which of its attribute got sealed even after I tried to use 【Identification】.
At the very least, I can see that the reduction of its HP bar has accelerated slightly, so I guess that was a success, right?
「Defense Fall!」
I added even more debuffing spells.
And then I equipped my spear and ran towards the Spinx’s face and stabbed into it repeatedly.
The monster’s HP bar started to go down even faster.
Looks like I won’t even have to employ any kind of special attacks in order to finish this guy off.
It was somewhat satisfying, but also disappointing at the same time.
In the end, Spinx dies with half of its body buried inside of the Pitfall without a shred of a chance to get out of it.
「Did… did we really just beat this…?」
「That feels kind of strange if I am to be honest.」
「Like something that you wouldn’t believe if you hadn’t seen it with your own eyes, right?」
「As much as I want to say that it was not strange at all, I have to say that it is!」
「I wish I could comment upon it in any way… but I am just too amazed to say anything!」
Looks like everyone is amazed at what we managed to pull off.
But more importantly, the monster has dropped an item!
Something called Lion Sage’s Needle.
Hmm…
If it’s something that’s similar to the needle that Spinx has at the end of its tail, then I say that this is quite a catch!
「Well, so there you have it. Thai is how you fight against the Spinx. The Sphinks is a similar opponent.」
「Sphinks is a monster that we will be hunting next, right?」
「That’s the plan.」
There was no reply.
Everyone just continued to stare at me in complete silence.
「Well, uhm… how’s everyone doing level-wise? Anyone managed to Level Up?」
At first they all kept silent, but then they all smiled and gave me a big thumbs up.
After that, we just hunted whatever came upon us without complaining.
Scorpions, Mummies, Spinxes, Sphinkses and other monsters alike.
Between all the battles that took place I didn’t even have that much time to stop and think about what to do next.
I just went on with the flow, same like everybody else.
Hyodor-kun, who doesn’t have as much MP as the rest of us had to use a lot of Mana Potions to keep up, but other then that, no one was lagging behind.
But it was clear as day that being with us helped both him and his Summoned Monsters gain a lot of strength.
If given enough time, I’m sure he can become someone who could easily rival me in battle.
《Summoned Monster『Cotouly』Level Up!》
《Please allocate 1 Bonus Point to increase the value of the statistic of your choosing.》
After another battle with a group of Scorpions, Cotouly managed to Level Up.
That’s great news.
Let’s take care of that right now!
The stat that increased was AGI, so that other point is going to be put into STR.
Cotouly Giganto Bee Lv6 → Lv7 (↑1)
DEX 18
AGI 30 (↑1)
INT 12
STR 8 (↑1)
VIT 8
SPI 8
Skills:
Needleshot, Bite, Flight, Evade, Surprise Attack, Poison
All right.
I like those numbers.
Those are a very good numbers.
It might be fine to continue using Cotouly as it is, but I think I’m going to switch it with Gengetsu for now.
Adel and the others were following my lead in all the battles up until this point.
Which is why I think that maybe we should try something more punishing, since if they will only win their battles all the time their sense of danger might get numbed.
After all, one cannot fully flourish as a warrior without knowing the tase of defeat.
Which is why, right now…
Thanks.
