Chapter 264 Part 1

「Stop right there!」

The one who sharply called out to me is a soldier who looks like a gate guard.
Mm.
He’s a soldier, right?
There’s a yellow marker indicating that he’s an NPC.
That’s kind of strange.
Why does he have wings on his back?

Ra Ila Birdman Male Racial Lv8
Fighter Alert.

When I use【Identify】on the guy approaching me this is what I get.
Birdman?
It seems he wasn’t a normal human.
As long as the marker is yellow, I should avoid a hostile attitude.

He doesn’t seem to be suddenly thrusting weapons at us either.
Instead, the top of the wall looks dangerous.
There could be someone with a bow and arrow or something.

「Humans, huh? And Summon monsters too. Coming by land is rare.」

「Rare?」

「Were you not attacked by apostles? And demons too. I think there were some nasty ones in that desert.」

「Well, somehow we escaped and got here.」

Yup.
That’s not wrong.
In a way, we did avoid fighting.

But anyways, I’m curious.
His attitude is pretty relaxed, right?
Birdman, huh.
Can I think of him as a friendly NPC?

「Humans are allowed to pass through here. You can go through.」

「What?」

「The port city of Romud is just ahead. As long as you don’t cause trouble, I won’t stop you.」

「Huh…」

How strange.
You are a gatekeeper, right?
If you say you’ll let me through I’ll take you up on it but…

The biggest gate seems to be closed all the time.
The standard gate is considerably smaller relatively, but big enough to pass while riding Zangetsu.
The gate was also heavily fortified, with four layers.

Anyways, this barrier almost looks like a huge dam!
You could call it a fortress that utilizes the natural terrain.
Even an ogre wouldn’t be able to break through it.
It’s definitely solid enough to give that feeling.

After we passed the barrier, it seems like the place we came to was the area portal.
On the wide area map, it was the port city of Romud.
And I immediately understood why the birdman at the barrier had let us through so easily.
The port city of Romud, right?
It’s size seems to far exceed that of Remut.
There were a lot of humans normally coming and going.
There also seemed to be dwarves.
There are even elves, though they are few in number.
But.
About half of the inhabitants clearly have a different atmosphere.
Ant people?
I’m not sure what to make of this.
They seem to be different from the Antmen.
If you look closely, you can see that they are more human-like than Antmen.
I saw some talking to humans at street stalls, and they didn’t seem to have trouble communicating, except that their speech sounded peculiar.
They all wore loose-fitting robes, though, so it was hard to tell them apart.
Is that the extent of the problems?

And there’s another species.
They’re clearly two heads larger than humans.
And it’s form stood out.
A Dragonewt?
The sight of a small dragon-like being walking around upright on two legs like a human was striking.
But the people around me were unconcerned.
Completely calm.
I guess that means this Dragonewt is a friendly species, right?
A Dragonewt was roasting meat and serving customers at a food stall.
It doesn’t seem like any other species would be afraid to come near it.
Or rather, Myrmidons are also buying meat but??[1. TN Note: Myrmidons refers to ant people]
That meal scene is kind of surreal.
I mean, this town itself looks like chaos.
Even though the streets are neat and tidy.

Oh well.
There seems to be no chance of clearing the area portal, but that’s fine once in a while.
Besides, it looks like I can buy food, and the currency seems to be the same.
Let’s take a look around while we shop.

I bought some snacks and food from a few stalls, and sold some items at a stall while gathering information.
It seems that this town is a trading post.
The town itself is run by the Dragonewts.
Birdmen help run the town.
The main inhabitants are Myrmidons, and most of the humans seem to be there for trade.
Humans, as well as elves and dwarves, seem to generally be foreigners here.
And it seems that most of them come to this town by sea.
Indeed, the bustle of the port was incredible.
It was chaos.
And all the humans who come and go look like pirates.
Apparently, there are a lot of people who have been expelled from their countries.
But I guess there aren’t many people who would do bad things in this town.
Birdman soldiers come around quite frequently.

There aren’t many Dragonauts.
And yet they seem to be the object of fear.
At the same time, they seem to be respected.
I don’t understand.

The bottom line is that they seem to have no problem behaving normally here.
That’s fine.
Let’s just leave it at that.

What did I buy?
Just a few small things.
Well, mostly groceries.
I needed some reason to ask the vendors about a lot of things after all.
The one who was the most talkative was a dwarven blacksmith.
Who’s brat is this?
His eyes were saying that, but when I showed him the Lion Sage’s Needles, his attitude changed.
Apparently, the Lion Sage’s Needle is a popular material.
Maybe that’s why he told me so many things?

For example?
The eastern half of this map.
It’s an ocean.
They say there’s another continent beyond that, but it sounds pretty far away.
What about the north?
I’m pretty sure it leads to S4E1.
It seems like there are also barriers like the one we passed to the North and South of this town.
To the north are the settlements of the Birdmen and the Myrmidon.
If we go south, we’ll find the settlement of Dragonewt, but it’s said to be a very dangerous area.
Well, that makes sense.
From what I’ve heard, it’d be a map seven squares away from Remto.

In the midst of all this, I found some information that caught my attention.
It’s about Magus’s.
I heard that they were defeated by the Dragonewts and Birdmen.
I’m a little concerned about that.
I get the feeling that there’s something fishy going on.

The time is 11:30 am.
I’ve been buying and eating little by little, I wonder if I even need lunch?
I pass through the northern gate.
I say the gate, but there’s a tunnel before the barrier.
Apparently demons don’t come out.
According to the information I’ve gathered, it’s a passage created by Myrmidons.
The Myrmidons and a small number of dwarves have built up a town beyond it.
And it goes all the way to the next map, near the Valley of the Cross.

That’s long!
And, you know.
I heard that there are no monsters inside, so we can move around without worry.
What did I think?
That’s so boring!

But don’t feel great about the eastern sea.
We need to improve our Summon Monsters in order to deal with the sea.
Heading south is also out of the question.
I heard that there are usually Lesser Dragons there?
Then what will we do?
Shall we try to go west?
Our target is the S5W1 map.
Let’s leave the town area and use Return Home.
We’ll travel from the southern end of the S5 map again.

I go through the western gate again and head west.
The Birdman gatekeeper stared at me like he was looking at something strange, but I don’t care.
I can’t be bothered.
After a short distance, I used Return Home.

My vision flipped.
The scenery is familiar.
And now let’s get a move on.
West this time.
A little north of the relay portal, I turn to the northwest.
Let’s see.
I hope I can reach the area portal on the S5W1 map by evening.

As usual, Sphinx and Spinx attack on their own, but not that often.
I wouldn’t mind an Elder pair?
As expected, it seems impossible to ask for that much.
There was also a level 5 Sphinx, but that’s it.
Gravity Prison is no good.
No, it’s so easy that it’s problematic.
That’s no good.
I need to get to the next map already!
I can feel my depression building up.
With its HP bar almost gone, I’m even using Pulse Laser Burst.

Overkill.
This is no good.
I’m losing my senses.

The time is 3:10 PM.
The speed I was driving Zangetsu at might have been the highest speed ever recorded.
With the help of strengthening spells, she was literally kicking the acolytes and such out of the way.
It was worth it. S5W1.
It doesn’t look like much has changed.
But a little more plains-like?
No, it has a slightly lumpy feel to it.
As long as the ground isn’t sandy, movement shouldn’t be a problem.
Now, I wonder what’s here?

Stone Golem Lv.1
Demon Enemy Target Active
Battle Position: Ground Earth Attribute

All of a sudden it’s you!
Compared to the golems that appeared in the Valley of the Cross, they’re a different hue, but they’re similar in stature.
There are two of them.
They’re of a lower level than the ones that appeared as event monsters.
Can we handle them?

It’s hard to handle them.
After all, spells don’t work on them!
Attribute Seal finally worked on the sixth try.
On top of that, one of them was dropped by Pitfall, splitting them up.
I tried to use Magma Field and Instant Simoon to slowly cut down their HP.
It didn’t work very well.
I know they’re pretty tough.
But I don’t have the luxury to observe that one.
Because there’s another one that’s just as big!

Of course, I don’t think it’s an opponent I could beat by charging it head-on.
Well, I’ve fought one just like it before, so that helps.

「Enchanted Wind!」

I had confirmed that Helix’s wind blade did a lot of damage.
Therefore, this spell would be effective.
I’ll try to deal with the guy left on the surface.
Next will be Defense Fall.
After that, should I try for Attribute Seal?
Either way, I want to try to get the HP down as much as I can before Pitfall is lifted.
Being extremely tough is also truly troublesome!

Somehow I managed to get rid of one of them, but the pitfall had been cancelled.
Of course, the other one is still alive and well.
The spell was supposed to have been steadily reducing its HP bar, but it still has about 70%.
Oi Oi.
I’m stunned.
There’s also a part of me that thinks I can still have fun.
But.
If there’s only one of them, I’m not scared.
All I have to do is make use of Zangetsu’s mobility and keep scraping away.
Well, is this what it’s like when you know someone of a higher level?
No, there was a good sense of excitement though.

After all, it’s great to have the peace of mind that you can use your mobility to escape at any time.
But the problem remains, of course.
If I don’t take the risk and use a charge, the battle will drag on.
That is a problem.
I wish I could do something about it, but for now, safety is my priority.

So, what did they leave us?
A rock.
Huh?
It’s true that the one we defeated was a stone golem, a monster made of stone, but.
Even Clay Golems leave behind a Silica Stone!
