Chapter 293 Part 3
By the way, how are those Imps doing?
Both Adele and Irina are training their Imps with the intention to use them as materials for Fuse Monsters.
As far as I can tell, Adele is trying to get a Werewolf.
Irina seems to have her eyes set on getting an Arachne.
In particular, Irina already has a Room Spider under her command.
Once the Imp she’s training Class Changes, she’d probably create an Arachne as soon as possible.
Both Imps have leveled up twice from these last two trains we made.
Adele’s Imp, Pu-chan, is Level 3.
And Irina’s Imp, Big Dipper, is Level 4.
They’re growing really fast.
Whoa…
Call Monster just detected some enemies.
There are three Airavatas nearby, huh?
Let’s take care of those before heading west for real this time.
Honest.
Oh, no no no.
There’s no being honest or dishonest in monster hunting.
Hunting is natural, isn’t it?
『So you’ve finally arrived, huh?』
『Mr. Turtle is already here!』
「There it is.」
That’s right.
The Slave Beast – Turtlesnake, who is probably marching in the far north, has already invaded the W5 map.
At last!
Well, I didn’t want to say that in response to the girls’ remarks.
Still, there are some things that can be seen more clearly now that they have invaded this W5 map.
Compared to the W6 map, the forests in the W5 map aren’t as dense.
This makes it easier to see the full picture regarding the group of monsters that are following the Slave Beast – Turtlesnake.
Both Adele and Irina seem to be recording videos as well as screenshots.
Well, I can leave that job to them.
How’s that looking?
The Majins are the problem
I think defeating those monsters would be pretty easy if it weren’t for those meddlesome Majins.
Let’s try using Sense Magic.
Wow!
As expected, the Slave Beast – Turtlesnake is on a whole different level.
Well, it already looks very different from the other monsters, so it’s only natural.
I’m getting a lot of Majin-like readings.
So there are still that many around, huh?
I also use Call Monster…
Tri-horned Lizards, Obsidian Beasts, Garms…
Of course, Svadilfari Slaves are also there.
But there are also things to rejoice in.
The Lesser Gryphons.
Have their numbers decreased?
Actually, there are none to be found.
That’s not good.
I must have a smile on my face.
That’s right.
So how will the enemy attack us now?
Will the Majins keep on coming while riding their Svadilfari Slaves?
Of course, a pack of Garms would be accompanying them.
It looks easy enough, but it could get difficult…
No, no.
That depends on how creative we are.
Let’s start by pestering them, shall we?
Where do we attack from?
Were we to attack them, where do we start from?
Of course, we’ll aim for the rear side of that huge turtle.
It is an opponent who is greatly inferior in terms of mobility.
We have no obligation to go walk up straight towards our enemy and fight them fair and square.
Maybe we should pull aggro from them and then run away?
The W6 map is close.
We could lure them into the forest and set traps there.
But why?
Well, when it comes to pestering monsters, various ideas come to mind.
Besides, it’s fun.
Bullying mobs feels nice.
『Are you going to fight that?』
『Wait! That’s too reckless!』
「I’m not planning to fight that thing fair and square, you know?」
What is my basic strategy?
Well, it’s to lure them in.
I’ll be the bait myself.
I’ll strike at the rear side of that group of monsters…
And then I’ll run away.
If the monsters with high mobility chase after me…
I’ll lure them into the forest, set traps there, and hunt them down.
This also has its problems.
Will the monsters chase after me endlessly?
If they end up giving up halfway through, we’ll be in trouble.
Especially those Majins…
If they’re able to make rational decisions, it’s likely that they’ll consider the possibility of a trap and give up on the pursuit.
But we won’t know until we try.
That’s how it is.
「I’ll be the decoy. You two should set a trap in the forest and wait for me there.」
『Then we’ll have to make some big changes to our lineups.』
『Should I recall Pu-chan then…?』
「No, I think the Imps can stay.」
『Huh?』
『Eh?』
「It’ll be good training for them. Even an Imp can do well in fights like these.」
That’s right.
Those Garms…
The Imps should be a favorable matchup against them.
They may have high attack power and mobility, but they aren’t that resilient.
It may be somewhat possible for the Imps to finish off any Garms that have been weakened enough already.
Besides, the Imps are airborne.
The fight should be rather one-sided.
Though this is only true as long as there are no Majins around.
The Svadilfari Slaves are tough, so it will be impossible for the Imps to kill them, but they should be enough to at least keep those in check.
I went around the group of monsters and approached their rear guard.
I’m in the middle of the forest in W6.
The monsters left this place in a horrible state in their wake.
I’ve found a nice place to set up a trap in one of the corners of this forest.
It’s easy to understand geographically.
I then convey my thoughts to Adele and Irina.
And how do they react?
They’re entirely convinced.
Well, that’s fine.
The two of them changed their Summoned Monsters lineup.
What about me?
Well, there’s no need.
I can do just fine with my current lineup.
So, what became of Adele’s lineup?
Now it’s Golden Fox, Mystic Eye, Chimera, Arachne, and Imp.
And Irina’s?
Nue, Pixie, Room Spider, Werewolf, and Imp.
That looks good enough.
The Arachne and Room Spider set traps using their spider webs.
The new additions can use their natural terrain advantage in the forest in order to launch surprise attacks.
And they’ve added some support monsters to the mix as well.
I have high hopes for the Summoned Monsters of the Light Attribute.
Because they can create illusions.
On the flip side, doing that drains their MP bar very quickly, but those illusions could have a great impact in the battle.
Of course, I’m not planning to just lure them in.
The plan is to kill as many of them as possible while running away.
Well, at least I’ll try to.
I temporarily leave Adele and Irina’s union.
Alright.
Let’s get started.
What I see before me is the Slave Beast – Turtlesnake.
I already know that.
But how does one deal with a monster this huge?
It’s like a fortress on legs.
It feels as thick and heavy as a huge boulder.
It’s literally a walking boulder.
A closer look shows that there are some Obsidian Beasts at the turtle’s feet, matching its slow pace as they walk.
The Garms, however, are running around in small packs as fast as they want.
The Tri-horned Lizards also move at their own pace.
They stop here and there, seemingly cautious of its surroundings.
And then there’s the Svadilfari Slaves…
And the Majins that ride them.
No Svadilfari Slave is without a Majin rider on its back.
How many of them are there?
I don’t really know.
I can’t see what’s on the other side of the Slave Beast – Turtlesnake.
The effect of my Invisibility will wear off soon.
So far, none of the Majins among this group of monsters has turned their attention to the rear.
I had thought that, if anyone here would’ve been able to see through my Invisibility, it would be the Majins.
Well, it makes sense.
Even I don’t keep my Sense Magic active all the time.
That Spell is very convenient, but it changes the way I see things around me to an extent that it can make me feel sick if I do it for too long.
I don’t know if the same thing happens to those Majins.
Whoops!
We’re already recording this, aren’t we?
I’m wasting time here.
Well then.
Shall we give this a try?
「Awoooooooooooo!」
This is Volff’s howl.
It’s not meant to threaten.
It’s almost as if it’s provoking them.
And I ride Zangetsu.
Volff catches up with us and guards our left side.
Helix is above me.
Nias is also riding behind me, and Rig is keeping her steady.
Of course, Rig also serves as our defense.
We ride past the left side of the Slave Beast – Turtlesnake at full speed.
That’s right.
We ride past it.
We also throw our offensive spells at them.
Annihilating them here isn’t my objective.
But I don’t think these monsters can see that.
We cut through the middle of a pack of Garms.
Was it just through about the tenth of a second where they were too taken aback and confused to even react to us?
Well, that’s fine.
The effective range of my offensive spells feels strange.
The Garms, who were beside the giant turtle, were completely undamaged by them.
What’s this?
Has anything like this ever happened before?
I then remember the area portal on the S4E1 map.
The Stone Golem Slave and the Stone Fairies.
Back then, Earth Magic was completely disabled from the get-go.
I keep on trying spell after spell while thinking “no way!”.
None of the monsters near the turtle seem to be affected by my spells.
Any effects they have appear to have been erased as well.
Is there anything on the back of that Slave Beast – Turtlesnake?
No, there’s nothing there.
However, once I overtook the turtle, I could see them.
Right there on top of its head.
Majins.
It looks like there’s two of them.
Exorcising Guru ???
Event Monster Majin ???
??? ???
Beast Master ???
Event Monster Majin ???
??? ???
Is the name a bit different?
It isn’t an Exorcising Priest.
It’s an Exorcising Guru, huh?
I saw you guys up there!
Are you two controlling this turtle?
There seems to be no doubt that they’re controlling it.
My Sense Magic tells me that the Exorcising Guru is definitely a higher-ranked monster.
The Beast Master is probably very high-ranked among Majins.
How many Svadilfari Slaves are around it?
And they have all sorts of Majins riding them as well.
But this one seems to be different from all of them.
Looks like this Beast Master is going to be trouble as well.
Even so, I turn toward the front side of the Slave Beast – Turtlesnake.
I can now see what a vicious look it has on its face.
A group of monsters gather at its feet and start to rush towards me from both sides.
I can see red markers all over the place.
Most of the monsters are Garms.
How many of them are there!?
Time to retreat.
The plan always was to provoke them and make them chase after me as I run away.
I signal Nias with my eyes.
She has no spear in her hand.
What she does have is her lyre.
Her song echoes at the same time as her instrument’s strings vibrate.
It sounds like humming.
But her melody has a frightening effect.
After a certain number of notes, the damage starts to happen.
Up until that point, it was just a song, but I’ve seen similar Spells in action.
The larger the group, the more effective it becomes.
It’s effective around the entire area where the song can be heard.
I myself was once on the receiving end of a similar song from a Bard Majin.
So long as you’re within hearing range, you will take damage no matter where you’re hiding.
Thanks for the treat.
