Chapter 297 Part 3

I wonder if a herd of Racchangos won’t appear to attack us?
Airavatas would also be good enough.
I wouldn’t even complain about a Minor Gryphon or two.

However, none of that came to be.
There were no monster attacks while I was on guard duty.

「Anyway, what was that thing you did earlier?」

「That’s a weapon arte, right?」

「I learned it only recently.」

We’re chatting as we enjoy our meal.
What’s getting Adele and Irina looking so shocked all of a sudden?
Well, they’re casually avoiding that question.
Even that Irina is being lured to a certain Summoned Monster.
That Summoned Monster is Zangetsu.
Wasn’t she petting her just now?
Even the girls who are always chasing Hyodor stopped for a moment to look at Zangetsu with great interest.
She’s very popular.
Until recently, Zangetsu’s fighting style was worthy of her being deemed a wild mare.
I wasn’t expecting her to become this quiet in contrast.

Originally, Zangetsu used to be rather quiet as well.
Which one is Zangetsu’s true personality?
It’s a complete mystery.

Once I exit the Instant Portal, I see a flock of Minor Gryphons lying on the ground.
It seems they had attacked earlier.
I’m jealous of Haruna, Konohana, Hyodor, and the others.
I can’t believe you’re being attacked by monsters while I’m not around!

Those blasted Game Admins.
This has to be some kind of sick joke from them.

What’s my lineup?
I haven’t changed it.
The lineup of most of our Summoners seems to have changed very little as well.
The time is 12:30 PM.
I’m curious about what’s going on in the Silent Bamboo Woods area, but right now we have to focus on the monsters that are right in front of us.
Besides, their Majins are already gone.

What’s our goal now?
To wipe them all out.
I don’t intend to let a single one live.

Of course, those Obsidian Beasts come first.
I would like to hunt them separately from the Slave Beast – Turtlesnake, but…
This isn’t going well.
Although I do get their attention with Call Monster, they lose aggro after they’ve walked a certain distance toward us.
Maybe they have to move together as a single unit?
Having said that, it would be unreasonable for all the Summoners here to try to call such a large number of them towards us.

That’s where Couturier comes in.
Her Lure skill…
Will it work?
I give it a try, and the results are scary.
Everything is heading this way.
What about the Slave Beast – Turtlesnake?
It has stopped moving.
Is it taking a break?
Maybe it’s just resting.
Well, putting that aside…

The group of Obsidian Beasts approach us.
It looks like a densely packed small army.
There’s probably around 100 of them.
This sense of perspective feels strange.
All of them look like mere pill bugs from here!

It’s funny.
It’s quite funny, isn’t it?
It’s impossible to grasp their size unless we have something to compare it to.
But this is also an opportunity.

They are densely packed, which means that our AoE offensive spells are likely to be highly effective at dealing damage to them.
We should surround them and attack them repeatedly.

「Let’s surround them and attack them over and over.」

『Can I change my Summoned Monsters?』

『Ah, sure!』

Hmm.
That’s right.
It looks like about half of our Summoners are going to change their lineup.
Fox-types and Fairy-types are quickly joining our ranks.

I’ll change my lineup too.
I recall Volff and Kyokuya.
And summon Ninetails and Heather in their place.
Are we all ready?
Well then, let’s go!

This battle is giving me the most chills out of any battle I’ve been a part of thus far.
And why is that?
It’s because it’s turned into a one-sided killing spree.
Does that mean that Obsidian Beasts are weak?
No, they’re definitely strong.
They’re also tough.
They’re certainly weaker against spell attacks than physical attacks.
But, you know?
Let’s say I fire several Pulse Laser Bursts at them.
Can I kill them with that?
Is it possible to reduce their HP bars by half or more?
I have no confidence in that.

That is why the way we’re attacking them is so scary.
This is another way to overwhelm the enemy through sheer numbers.
It’s a feat that only a large union can do.

We surround the group of Obsidian Beasts and lay siege to them completely.
We use Stone Walls.
And double-layered at that.
The effect may wear off or be destroyed by these monsters along the way, but we will continue to rebuild them one after another.
It’s like they’re locked inside a cage.
Then we unleash our AoE offensive spells.
There is no escape for these monsters.
We can do whatever we want.
Us Summoners continue to move counterclockwise around these walls.
Then, after each AoE offensive spell, each of us rebuilds a bit of the Stone Wall, and repeat this process over and over.
I almost feel sorry for these monsters.

I also use spells other than AoE offensive spells.
Magma Field.
Instant Simoom.
This is basically bullying them at this point.
But bullying these monsters feels nice.

Of course, I also try various AoE offensive spells.
I never thought I’d get a chance to try them all out.

Light Explosion…
A dazzling flash of light bursts inside the cage!
This one’s fascinating.
Although it got to only a few of them, seeing these monsters all confused is truly a sight to behold.
But when the time comes to attack them, I find myself having a hard time seeing them as well.
I’d like to refrain from using this again for now.

Dark Explosion…
This also means that I cannot see the monsters.
I would like to see their movements so I can plan my next move, but this is a bit of a problem as well.

Fire Storm…
It’s working as usual, isn’t it?
However, it seems to be causing troubles to our Fairies, who are unleashing their special abilities from above.
I’ll have to be very careful when using this one.
People around me are using this same spell quite flamboyantly, but I won’t be imitating them.

Storm Wave…
This is also likely to be a nuisance to our airborne Fairies.
Let’s not use this one.

Gravel Blast…
This one feels like it’s not doing anything to our enemies.
It’s even more dangerous because the stone bullets are bouncing all over the place!
It’s a little scary.

Aqua Slash…
This doesn’t seem to be very effective either.
Next.

Thermal Extension…
Is it working?
I think it’s working.
Could this also be a nuisance for the Fairies?
It might cause an updraft

Volcanic Blast…
This one seems to be a good choice, huh?
It doesn’t seem to be causing trouble to anyone around.

Acid Shower…
I can’t tell if the damage over time is going through or not.
Let’s put it on hold, since I can’t determine this.

Thunder Shower…
It’s very flashy.
Moreover, with these many enemies, I might be able to paralyze one or two of them.
This one is great!
Having less of them trying to break our walls is also very good.

Freezing Blast…
Maybe this is also pretty good?
Since these are monsters that are naturally slower, I can’t expect its AGI debuff to do much.

Ivy Whip…
It’s better at stopping their movements than at dealing damage.
But its effect is too limited.
This is also a pass.

Finally, Force Blast…
This one seems to have dealt an unexpected amount of damage, but that’s about it.
This has been an AoE offensive spell whose selling point was its wide attack range from the start, so I guess it makes sense.

I guess this is due to the fact that there are other players around, but I use Thunder Shower a lot.
That’s right.
Thunder Shower occasionally causes paralysis.
In exchange for this, it deals less damage than other AoE spells.
But still…
The monsters are surrounded by walls, so they can’t escape.
This is the best.

《【Lightning Magic】Level Up!》

It may have taken some time, but the fact that all of us were able to complete this hunt without taking any damage can be considered a great accomplishment.
And everyone got a Magic Crystal, with me temporarily receiving the remaining ones for safekeeping.
We experienced no problems whatsoever.
Having to recover our MP bars is a big deal, though.

By the way…
When will my jousting abilities come into play?
And even Zangetsu looks dissatisfied.
She’s gotten no chance to use her horn.
But hey, Zangetsu.
Are you planning to stab that Slave Beast – Turtlesnake with that horn of yours?
I don’t think that would be unreasonable.

『So it’s that guy’s turn next, huh?』

『Wait a minute! I need to recover my MP!』

「Let’s wait a moment. It looks like some of us have Class Changes to take care of.」

That’s right.
There’s been some Level Ups amongst our ranks, some of which have cleared the conditions for even more Class Changes.
How much stronger are we going to grow?
It’s scary.

After a little while, we approach the Slave Beast – Turtlesnake.
We don’t need to use AoE offensive spells for this one.
Single target spells are fine.
As a result, attacking it with those will be more efficient for us.
The problem is its Breath counterattack.
I’ll also fiddle with my formation a little.
I recall Couturier and summon Oma.
Ninetails and Heather still have plenty of MP left in their bars.
They should be fine.
We rely on Helix to keep an eye on the surrounding area, but we also have plenty of allies as well.
This is the advantage of being in a group.
Still, let’s not let our guard down.
I don’t think they will appear on this map, but there are monsters in this game that attack from underground.

Well then.
Shall we do this?
