Chapter 298 Part 1

Dealing with the aftermath of the battle was a lot of work.
A summary report has already been prepared, which I’m reading as we travel.
It’s impressive.
And scary at the same time.

The number of players committed to this battlefield alone was approximately 4,000.
It’s totally like an actual, real life war.

What were the results?
One Slave Beast – Turtlesnake.
A Fool’s Lithograph was obtained.
No more information is available at this point.

Why was it such a difficult fight?
It seems that the enemy had received a large number of monsters as reinforcements, led by Majins riding Lesser Gryphons and Svadilfari Slaves.
Most of the monsters they brought with them were Garms.
Apparently, these enemy reinforcements had attacked from two different directions at the same time, one of which was the flank.
Our forces were aware that there would be reinforcements, but it seems that the number of those reinforcements were unexpected.

That’s quite intense.
It says here that half of the players who survived this battle increased both their Racial Level and Job Level.
But to put it the other way around, they did manage to repel a force of that magnitude.

By the way…
Approximately 10,000 players have announced their participation in the event in the west.
If we include the players who may be participating without announcing it, some estimate that there might be up to 20,000 players actively participating in this event.
Now that’s a large-scale event if I’ve ever seen one.

Still, I’m curious about something.
So far, it seems that ambushes utilizing Instant Portals have been steadily producing results.
The number of Majins is decreasing.
But the number of monsters hasn’t decreased by that much, hasn’t it?

Well, it’s true that the full picture surrounding the monsters that are following the Kim Kui Slave is obstructed by the forest, so we can’t just try to guess how many of them are there?
Can we at least say that there are comparatively much more monsters than there are Majins?

What if that many reinforcements were sent to the Slave Beast – Turtlesnake who was up ahead?
It seems that the number of monsters that follow the Kim Kui Slave is decreasing.
Fiona appears to have already taken measures in that regard.
It also looks that a survey team, an analysis team, and a strategy team capable of continuous combat have been dispatched to the west.

So quick!

So what are our options?
Continue west.
We’ll try to reduce the number of monsters as we approach the Kim Kui Slave.
But the troops have already been dispatched, right?
I’m sure that sending them reinforcements would be a good idea.

There’s another option.
Go around to the south side and try to put as much hurt as possible to the likely last two Slave Beast – Turtlesnakes and the group of monsters following them.
This is something that we should be able to accomplish to some extent.
Though, at the same time, we have less people now, so defeating both Slave Beast – Turtlesnakes might be impossible.

Both routes have their merits, don’t they?
That makes things difficult.
I’d like to hear everyone’s opinions on this matter.

「Which is better, going west or south?」

『West!』

『I think south?』

『Hang on! I’ll be recording!』

Konohana quickly adds up the total of votes.
I ended up voting for going west.
And what was the result?
It was going south, 20 votes to 12.

『South, huh?』

「Alright. Then let’s go take down as many Majins as we can.」

『That’s right.』

But there’s also a concern.
It’s about Hyodor’s Spirit Summoning.
Even though its cool down has shortened since his last use, it seems that it’ll still be quite some time before he can summon his next Spirit.
We just won’t have that as insurance!

So what can we do?
We might form a union of three or four parties and disperse to hunt Majins.
It depends on how many Majins there actually are.
It’s hard to imagine that there aren’t any, but if there aren’t a lot of them, we might want to try to launch a surprise attack.

At any rate…
We have the strength of 32 parties.
Still, there are limits to what can be done.
There may be times when fewer numbers are more efficient.
Sometimes just things don’t go well.

『I see them!』

『Hmm, I guess there’s not a lot of them after all.』

The surveillance network formed by Helix and the other flying Summoned Monsters have been observing the Slave Beast – Turtlesnake and the monsters that follow it for quite some time now.
Is that group very big?
Has its march halted?
It’s slow and steady, just like a turtle.

But this is puzzling.
The number of Majins is probably low.
As far as Svadilfari Slaves and Lesser Gryphons go…
There are nine of those in total.
And there are a total of six Exorcising Gurus among those Majins?
It’s also highly likely that there’s another Exorcising Guru atop the Slave Beast – Turtlesnake’s head.

But there are a lot of other monsters around them.
Naturally, our goal is to get rid of the Majins, but they have a lot of monsters following them!
Will we have a chance to jump in?
Of course, that doesn’t come without its risks, but it’s still something I’d like to try.
What about traps using Instant Portals?
That’d be an indirect way to deal with them.
But it’d also be our best choice for doing it in a reliable way.

What do we do?
It’s not unreasonable.
It’s not impossible either.
I don’t think it’s reckless.

Yeah…
Break through and run away.
That’s all we need to do!

『Maybe…』

「Yeah. Let’s just go through them for now, then run away and eliminate only those who are chasing us.」

『Run away!』

『Run away, you say…』

『Are you really going to run away?』

Hmm.
Not only Adele and Irina, now even Haruna and Konohana are digging into my words.
But I don’t care.
There’s no point in worrying about it.

『Is it always like this?』

『Well, mostly.』

Hyodor answers Heraclius’ question.
Isn’t it always like this?
It’s not impossible.
It’s not unreasonable either.
It’s far from reckless.
Therefore, I think it’s worth a try.

Trying to eliminate them all, that would definitely be reckless.
I don’t really want to go that far!

Besides, it’s getting dark.
If possible, only one round.
I’d like to leave at some point, have dinner, and then go hunt some Majins on my own.
Hunting Majins using Instant Portals should be something a player does near to their own moment of logging out.
Isn’t that how it’s like today?

From the beginning, our goal has been to take out the Majins.
In addition to that, we’ll reduce the number of those highly-mobile Garms as much as possible.
Out of us 32 summoners, 17 use Bows as their main weapon.
The Majins will be targeting me.
The Staff-wielding Summoners will be laying waste to this place with their AoE offensive spells, and then they’ll be setting up defensive walls.
My plan is to use this to reduce the number of monsters chasing me as much as possible.
There are opponents we can’t defend against.
Those are the Lesser Gryphons.
But that’s okay.
If they come to us, we’ll bring them down.
Mainly me, though.
Well, for the time being I’ll be leading the charge.

Let’s briefly decide on a plan of action and share it with everyone else here.

Well then.
Are we done getting all of our spells reinforced?
Are we prepared?
Are we ready to defeat the approaching monsters?

Everything seems good to go.
So, shall we get going?

From the start, there will be no surprise attack.
The plan is to make a path that passes right by the Slave Beast – Turtlesnake, and charge.
The songs of two Mermaids, as well as those from a Merrow and a Lorelei, echo loudly.
We’ll spare no resources.
With the Wolf-type Summoned Monsters covering both my flanks, I launch my assault.
I deliberately ignore the large monsters.
I managed to 【Identify】 an Exorcising Priest riding on a Svadilfari Slave.
Of course, I’ll aim for that one first.
I wanted to finish it off, but Zangetsu got ahead of me.
Zangetsu’s horn pierced through it, killing it instantly.
Hey.
Drop me off here if I’m getting in your way!

I make heavy use of Light Explosion as my main source of AoE damage.
Heather focuses on lightning strikes.
I want to stop these monsters from moving.
There will probably be monsters chasing me anyway, but I don’t want to deal with all of them.

『We’ve reached the rear end of this group of monsters!』

「Alright! Time for those walls!」

Several wall spells were set up towards the rear, spreading out slightly to the sides.
And I went to the very end of it.
