Chapter 314 Part 1

《You have received (1) message(s) from your friend(s).》

《You have received some information from the GMs. Do you wish to read it?》

The time is… exactly 6 AM?
It looks like I have a couple of notifications, but I need to check something before I look at those.
The surrounding landscape is still the plains.
Hmm.
So the Instant Portal remained intact?
That’s a bit of a pain though.
I wanted to earn a little more experience with a potential Majin invasion.

Especially the ones like Il Capitano.
My Summoned Monsters ended up finishing that one off…
It seemed to have yielded a lot of experience points.

No.
It certainly did yield a good amount of experience points.
I wonder when the next one like it will come?
I can’t wait for such an event to take place.

Oh, wait a minute.
I need to summon Bunraku and have it prepare breakfast, don’t I?
Let’s see how many Magic Stones the Cintamani Stone has produced…
Oh yeah.
The usual rotation is good enough.

So, who’s the message from?
It’s from Fiona.

『Could you come to Twilight Castle? We’re going to have a review meeting for this last event. 』

Hmm?
Certainly, we’d need to sit down and share all sorts of information, right?
But I’ve come all this way here…
Going back now would be a bit of a shame.
The meeting is scheduled to start tomorrow at 7 AM, and will be attended by volunteers.
That’s right.
I’m planning to head west from here today.
I’ll only be going even farther away, will I?

There’s a labyrinth-like place in the relay portal.
The W6 area portal.
That’s behind the waterfall at the west end of W6.

There are some places I would like to try exploring while looking for any traces of Majins.

My reply to Fiona’s message is that I haven’t decided yet about what I would do.

So, what about the information from the GMs?
It’s just the usual stuff.
Well, let’s leave this aside.
There are more important matters at hand.
That is, Bunraku’s cuisine.
This looks pretty good, right?
It’s Fighting Bull beef after all.
Start off the morning with some meat.
Yeah, that’s the good stuff.

So, what’s the lineup for today?
We’ll have Obsidian, Couturier, Kotohogi, Aotsuki, and Sputter.
I need monsters that can move in the air.
We had a good response in the aerial battles yesterday.
There was definitely no problem for us with that in the W5 Map.
Will we be able to do the same in W6?
Well, we won’t know until we try.

But there’s also something bothering me.
I don’t have that many more Summoned Monsters that can move in the air.
I think the only other one I have right now is Heather?
I suppose it would be possible to have Ninetails on board.
And there might be a way to have Nias and Rig riding with me.
There’s no one right now that can back up Aotsuki, after all.

Should I think about it?
Right now, I only have one open summon slot left.
I don’t have much time.
In the case of Summoned Monsters, the penalty for dying was that they could not be summoned for an entire day, wasn’t it?
In a sense, it’s okay to wait, and besides, having the experience points we gain not spread out too much is actually a good thing…
I don’t know what to do.

Well, let’s think about that a little later, shall we?
Let’s clear up the issue at hand.

Be that as it may…
Driving Aotsuki through the air is so easy it’s actually a problem.
It only took about 10 minutes to reach the relay portal tower.

Well, it looks like it’s been destroyed, though.

《This is a haven for destroyed spirits》

《I only dream of the time when I will be revived again》

It’s no use.
This soul-like ball of fire is floating here, and this is all it says.
I can’t even use the logout menu.

And the entrance to this labyrinth seems impossible to pass through.
Although the tower itself appears to be slowly being repaired.

Do I have any other choice but to put this on hold?
In that case, let’s move on.
The W6 map area portal is up ahead.

《Summoned Monster『Sputter』 Level Up!》
《Please add 1 point to a desired stat.》

As expected from Lesser Gryphons.
They’re different from Minor Gryphons.
Although it’s only small flocks of three to five individuals, it is difficult for Sputter to defeat them.
It’s not just that they’re tough.
They work well together, and above all, they are ferocious.
It is also difficult for him to deal with their attacks.
Well, he’s already starting to get used to fighting them, though.

Sputter’s INT increased automatically upon leveling up.
Let’s choose AGI as his second stat increase.

Sputter Hawk Lv4→Lv5 (↑1)
 DEX 11
 AGI 24 (↑1)
 INT 20 (↑1)
 STR 11
 VIT 11
 SPI 11

 Skills
Peck Flight Far Sight Wide Area Search Ambush Sense Danger Air Mobility (New!)

Hmm.
In terms of numbers, it’s a little unfortunate.
I’m also worried about his stats being able to keep growing into a nice set in case any stats other than AGI or INT start increasing randomly.
An uneven stat growth would give him a certain individuality.
This is also troubling.
It’s fine to enjoy troubling things as well.

Although the aerial battle took some time, we arrived at the area portal in about 40 minutes after entering the W6 map.
How does this place look?
This is also a ruin.
This doesn’t look too promising.

《This is a haven for destroyed spirits》

《I only dream of the time when I will be revived again》

Just as expected.
The soul’s response remains the same.
But there was a change in the well.
This well was surely dry before, but…
It’s currently filled with water to some extent.

I tried drawing water in a bucket.
There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with it.
Though some guys have perched on the edge of the bucket and are sticking their heads into the water.
It’s Obsidian and Sputter.
You guys…
It’s bad manners to do that, you know?

And then there’s someone else who is behaving even worse.
It’s Aotsuki.
She just plunged her head in at one go.
She had no consideration for the fact that the contents of the bucket would overflow.

That’s basic manners!
After finishing drinking the water inside the bucket, she appears to be satisfied, and her demeanor changes all of a sudden.
Hmm?
This is quite unexpected…
I don’t really understand!

At any rate, the water here seems to be something that can be actually used.
Well, that alone might be a good thing.

《【Earth Magic】Level Up!》

We took a short break after slaughtering another flock of Lesser Gryphons in front of the waterfall.
The time was exactly 9 AM.
Although we would stop a fair amount of times to fight enemies in the sky, we were still able to move through the map in a little over two hours.
It wouldn’t be impossible to reduce this time by more than half by skipping any and all encounters with monsters.
That’s right.
It would be even easier if we could fly a little higher.
Though, of course, I would have to be wary of coming across something like a Bronze Dragon.
That’s dangerous.

But I can’t seem to resist this temptation.
While it is true that going through the cave behind the waterfall is the main way to get to the W7 Map…
It should even be possible to fly through the sky and cross over the mountains to get there as well.
The question is whether there is such a thing as a Bronze Dragon all the way up there.

Let’s try using Call Monster.
It doesn’t pick up any signs of monsters around the mountains.
What does the mountain look like?
There is snow on the top of these mountains.
They don’t seem to be too high, though.

What to do?
Should I try this?

I pondered about it for a while.
What to do?
Let’s go.
When in doubt, just go.
That’s what I’ve always done after all.

As expected of the mountains…
It’s cold.
But not too much.
Looks like 【Cold Resistance】 is coming in clutch here.
I think I can endure this cold without winter clothing.

Let’s take a look at the wide area map.
These mountains seem to run from north to south along the border between the W6 and W7 Maps.
Let’s also check our direction with the magnetic compass.
We’re flying straight towards the west.
It looks like clouds are starting to appear below us, which makes it hard for us to see where we are.

So far, no monsters have come to attack us.
I’ve got a bad feeling about this.
What’s that?
Obsidian, and then Aotsuki, have started to act a little restless.
Could it be that they’re sensing danger?

What time is it?
It’s a little over 10 AM.
This is weird…

The landscape around me hasn’t changed at all.
But what if I look at the wide area map?
It shows that we’re still near the boundary between the W6 and W7 Maps.

I once again check our direction using the magnetic compass.
We’re facing west.
That’s what it’s showing.
So we must be heading west.
And yet, on the wide area map, we don’t seem to be moving at all.

What exactly is at work here?
What should I do?

I have three options.
I could try going back.
I could try going down.
And I could also go even higher.

Hmm.
Increasing our altitude is dangerous.
Though it’s the most appealing option for me…
Going back is out of the question.
So that leaves going down to the mountain surface.

We seem to be fairly high above the ground.
The surrounding area is covered in fog, making visibility impossible.
Everything about this seems very suspicious.
Thankfully, the slopes of the mountain are gentle.
Let’s get moving.
What direction?
Of course, we’re still going west.

Again, this is strange.
No monsters appear.
And once again, we don’t seem to be moving at all according to the wide area map.

So the same is happening here on the ground, huh?
Perhaps we should explore another option.
But as I’m thinking about that…

The fog suddenly cleared.
There is a steep rock wall ahead of us.
It looks like it would be very difficult to climb this.
I see something strange on it.
It has chains.
They aren’t meant to help anyone climb this wall.
For some reason, they are extending horizontally along the wall.
And they are really big.

What does this mean?
Let’s follow these chains and see where they’ll take us.
I’m a little intrigued.
