Chapter 326 Part 1

326

I’ve deployed an Instant Portal on the beach.
After recalling Sputter and summoning Bunraku so that it can prepare lunch, I started looking at the Map information I’ve received.
It’s quite interesting.
In particular, the locations of monsters that lurk underwater and create whirlpools were marked all over it.
What are these monsters?
It’s Vodyanoys.
I’ve fought one of those before.
These seem to be causing mischief everywhere, huh?
It seems that the mopping up of monsters has been progressing throughout every Map four squares away from Remut, and information regarding the most recent encounters and defeats has spread to five squares away.

And there’s also information on monsters I haven’t seen yet.
These are all monsters that can be encountered out at sea.
Assault Swordfish.
The materials from those were used to make a spear I owned at one point.
There are also Kamikaze Dolphinfish and Slasher Beltfish.
Although there is not much encounter information yet, there are also Flying Mantas.
And Man-Eating Sharks, too.

Apparently, there were also large numbers of Jellyfish and Sea Anemones during the Ghost Ship event.
There seem to be a lot of things to do by the sea alone, huh?

Information about the islands is still scarce.
And it seems that there are slight differences in the monsters that inhabit each island.

What has caught my attention?
Apparently there are Marsh Turtles on the islands on the E3 map.
There was also information on Crab-types, Giant Clams, and Boxing Mantis Shrimps, which I’ve already fought against in the E4 Map.

And what about the southern sea?
The south side of the sea has a moderate ocean current, and it seems that there hasn’t been much progress in terms of clearing the area.
It seems that they are traveling by ship to the fishing village Neeme, but there is still a long way to go from there.
And Mermaids appear on an island off the coast of Neeme.
Though they seem to be quite malicious.

What about the north?
There seem to be a lot of Sea Snakes on the north side.
Apparently there are also some Mizuchis, but although there have been some sightings, their encounters are currently quite irregular.
And apparently there are highly aggressive Dolphins on the north side as well.

It’ll be hard to try and check all of these in one go.
Well, I can always travel in the sky, and I’m also earning experience points on the E4 Map.
There’s no need to force myself to go everywhere, right?

Besides…
I’m also curious about the area around where Dragons can be found.
So far, I’ve only fought Snow Wyverns, but what’s going on on the ground?
Lately, I’ve been focusing on both underwater and aerial battles while moving, but…
I also want to do some ground combat.
Maybe I should warp there and fight during the night?
I need to keep Volff and others active.
Having too many Summoned Monsters is troublesome.
It’s very troublesome…

After quickly finishing my meal, I changed my lineup.
Let’s aim to improve Apnea’s fighting power before anything else.
Naturally, the goal is to have him undergo his Class Change, but I’m curious.
Suruga and Nonomura choose Black Dolphin.
And yet, it seems that there’s another Class Change option for Dolphins.
It seems that neither of them chose it because it seems to be inferior in terms of AGI.
Beluga.
Or should I say, Beluga Whale?
It looks like that’s the other option.

I’d like to add more Summoned Monsters that can be used underwater next time my 【Summon Magic】 levels up.
The problem is whether to choose a Mermaid or a Dolphin.
Though Suruga and Nonomura didn’t seem to have much trouble deciding that.

Should I try getting another Dolphin?
That might be a good idea.
I mean, once I get two more levels of 【Summon Magic】, I’ll be able to add both a Dolphin and a Mermaid.
I’d like to make moving underwater easier.

Oh, I almost forgot!
The lineup!
Let’s go with Rig, Nias, Taylor, Strand, and Apnea.
In the end, the only one remaining in the bench will be Goukame, sadly enough.
Well, in this Map, I might not have to worry about that.

But.
I checked under the sea, and it seems that things are a little different on this island.
There are only a few Karkinos.
Greater Karkinos are an even rarer sight.
However, the Boxing Mantis Shrimps are closer to the beach here.
There are also some Sawsharks, but not that many.
What about Giant Clams?
I can’t pick any of those up with Call Monster.
Oh well…
We have no choice but to fight!

《【Dive】Level Up!》

How to deal with the Boxing Mantis Shrimps?
I had no choice but to rely on Rig.
It’s not just their jabs…
Every single one of their punches have the power of a deadly straight.

Rig played a very important role as my biological armor yesterday, being able to mitigate many direct hits, but…
As expected, it can’t cover my entire body.
That’s why we needed to get creative.
From the beginning, Rig and I will be in charge of the front, positioning ourselves to be attacked.
Rig covered the upper half of my body, and then I got closer to them while lowering my hips.
This worked nicely.
It’s definitely not my style, but I can’t help it.
I have to admit that it was very effective.

Looks like this will do the trick, huh?
But not all of the problems have been completely resolved.
Especially the Clasping Giant Clams.
Stepping on them is a big problem in itself.
Though as long as I take care not to step on anything while swimming near the bottom of the ocean, I should be fine.

Alright.
I wonder if all of this will be enough for me to deal with these sea monsters.
Let’s keep on fishing until the evening.

《Summoned Monster『Taylor』 Level Up!》
《Please add 1 point to a desired stat.》

Taylor had suffered from a status abnormality yesterday, but things are going well so far today.
The only concern was the Boxing Mantis Shrimps, so if we can clear those, things should progress smoothly with him.
He’s still a reliable vanguard.

Taylor’s VIT increased automatically upon leveling up.
Let’s choose AGI as his second stat increase.

Taylor Karkinos Lv4 → Lv5 (↑1)
 DEX 11
 AGI 12 (↑1)
 INT 6
 STR 36
 VIT 31 (↑1)
 SPI 6

 Skills
Pincer Strike Aquatic Water Attribute Earth Resistance

And this is what I’ve obtained from one of the Sawsharks I killed.

【Material】 Sawshark Horn Raw Material Grade C+ Rarity 4 Weight 1
A Sawshark’s horn. There are several sharp protrusions along its left and right sides.

What’s this?
It feels more like a tool than a weapon.
But how many Sawsharks have I killed here?
Even though my 【Disassembly】 has risen to a certain level, the probability of getting these is still too low.
I guess it’s something that can’t be changed that easily.

Akoya shells don’t pose such a problem.
The same goes for Giant Crab Eggs.
The only thing left to wonder is what kind of items the Greater Karkinos and Boxing Mantis Shrimp can drop.
Or rather, if they do drop anything at all.

《Summoned Monster『Apnea』 Level Up!》
《Please add 1 point to a desired stat.》

What time is it?
It’s 5:10 PM.
Just in time for an evening meal, huh?

Apnea’s INT increased automatically upon leveling up.
Let’s choose STR as his second stat increase.

Apnea Dolphin Lv6 → Lv7 (↑1)
 DEX 12
 AGI 24
 INT 16 (↑1)
 STR 13 (↑1)
 VIT 13
 SPI 10

 Skills

Shall we go back soon?
Let’s move underwater to the next island.
Let’s do some more fishing on the way there.
I’d like to try using the giant rock to warp away after dinner.
I’m looking forward to getting Apnea’s Class Change done after tomorrow.

《【Dark Magic】Level Up!》
《【Lightning Magic】Level Up!》
《【Swim】Level Up!》

I’ve finally arrived at the island with the giant rock.
I tried moving underwater, and even traversed some quite deep areas along the way.
But still, it seems like I’m being carried away by the ocean current.
I was heavily forced to swim to correct my course.

Moreover, just before the sandy beach, I encountered a large group of Karkinos.
Oh well.
I got Apnea to level up, so I guess it’s fine.
I feel like the distribution of monsters depending on each island is quite extreme.

Let’s deploy an Instant Portal and start making preparations for dinner.
I recall Apnea and summon Bunraku.
Then…
It will be a short one, but let’s get a sparring session goin.
I keep Taylor and Strand with me, and recall Rig and Nias.
I’m replacing these last two with Goukame and Peptide.
Let’s have Taylor and Peptide team up against Goukame and Strand in a tag team match.

And what should I do?
I’ve got this Ice Flying Dragon Needle and Claw…
The Ice Flying Dragon Claw is quite thick.
If I were to use it to make a blunt weapon, it would just turn into something like a Pickaxe, and I don’t think I’d be able to handle it well with my current Skill levels.
So if we’re going to process any of these, I’ve gotta start with the Needle.
And let’s keep it simple.

So I tried making this.
I thought that it would be a bit long for a foil, but this was beyond my expectations.

【Weapon: Rapier】 Snow Wyvern’s Estoc+ Grade B- Rarity 6
 AP+27 M・AP+0 Destructive Power 2+ Weight 3+ Durability 280
Magical Item Lower AGI chance [Medium] Poison chance [Small]
An estoc made using an Ice Flying Wyvern Needle. It’s meant to be used with both hands.
It has no blade, so it cannot be used for cutting. It’s a little heavy for an estoc.
In addition to dealing damage, it can also inflict Poison and lower its target’s AGI.
 [Custom]
It uses Hell’s Latch for its handle, so it contributes little to magic activation.

The finished weapon was certainly too long to be wielded with one hand.
It’s like a spear.
It’s crazy to say this, but this has excellent performance.
But unlike a spear, sweeping attacks aren’t effective with this weapon, so letting an enemy get too close would give them a good opportunity to strike.
It might be difficult to use this weapon without Summoned Monsters covering both of my sides like a wall.

At this point, I started wondering about something.
What if I had made a spear instead?
I wouldn’t have been able to adjust this to short spear size no matter how I tried.
It would’ve been a long spear, and quite a lengthy one at that.

Well, I’ll make sure to check that sometime in the future.
For now, it’s time for my meal.

I’ve finished my meal.
Now, let’s use the giant rock to warp to the valley where the Dragons are.
If I don’t engage in ground combat, I’m going to start to get rusty.
What about the lineup?
Although we’ve fought Snow Wyverns, we haven’t encountered any other monsters yet.
We won’t be able to cut corners here.

Let’s go with Volff, Goki, Senki, Shishiku, and Telomere.
Even if the Snow Wyverns are mainly aerial fighters, this lineup should be able to keep up with them.

I try touching the giant rock.
I’m just imitating what Master did, but the next moment, I was already there, in the valley.
Well, isn’t this truly anticlimactic!

Let’s use Flashlight to make sure I can see where I’m going…
There seems to be a Dragon sitting deep in the valley.
I should probably stay clear of it.

In that case, naturally, I will be heading towards the opposite side.
Descending into the valley.
Which direction am I going?
According to the magnetic compass, it’s north.
Completely opposite to the direction of the royal castle.

Alright.
This place should be close to the Dragons’ nest.
What could be here?

Surprisingly, there are no monsters.
There were no signs of any.
Even Call Monster is detecting nothing but Snow Wyverns in the distance.

As we move forward, the valley gets wider.
The path ahead is a gentle slope.
I was feeling chilly before, but not anymore.
It’s probably because the altitude is lower, or perhaps the wind has died down.

I emerge in a place that looks like the bottom of a cliff.
On the wide area map, it’s almost the center of N2E12.
There’s a statue in front of me.
And those soul things.

Hey…
Wait, wait!
I didn’t think this place would be a…

Can I avoid doing this?
No, that would be too passive for me.
I’ve been challenging things like this all along.
Avoiding this is out of the question!

Let me buff everyone up with strengthening spells as much as possible.
I don’t know what will appear once I start this.

Are we ready?
All preparations done.
I used a Mana Potion to restore my MP bar, which is now close to 80%.
I’ll be using the Petrified Wood Staff this time.
I approach the soul-like fireball.
Alright, let’s do this!
