Chapter 341 Part 1

341

I’ve logged in.
The time is exactly 3 AM.
The forest is so deep that it doesn’t feel like it’s much different from daytime.
There’s just a little bit of sunlight filtering through the trees.

Well then.
Let’s get started right away from where we left off yesterday.
Hunting time!
Once dawn breaks, let’s go to Twilight Castle to get some new gear for Heather.

What about my lineup?
The usual forest formation should be good.
But I also want to improve our fighting power.
The Summoned Monsters that had suffered stat penalties last night seem to be okay now.
What’s the problem?
It’s me.
My MP bar isn’t fully replenished, though it’s only by a little.
Well, that’s fine.
Last night was very enjoyable after all.

So, what were the results?
Tigris, Strand, Peptide, Modulus, and Kiyohime.
The aim was to level up both Strand and Peptide.
Well, it’s unlikely that both will actually level up by dawn.
But the experience points won’t go to waste.
There also are some monsters that I was a little concerned about…

I’m not talking about the Huashes.
All those do is drop Magic Stones.
And even though they fly, Huashes are probably the lowest threat on this Map.
The only time they are a problem is when there’s too many of them.

I’m concerned about the Mangshes.
Come to think of it, I’ve only ever fought one of those.
They might leave some items behind.

By the way, am I reading their name correctly?
Looking for it on an external link, I found that the characters for this name can also be read as “Uwabami”.
Uwabami, huh?
Isn’t that Japanese for “heavy drinker”?

Besides…
Several of the enemies that can inflict status ailments are still going strong.
For some reason, there seem to be fewer during the day than at night, but they’re still there.
Lesser Basilisks.
And Lamias.
Wyrms and Lesser Hydras can only inflict Poison, though.

Perhaps the Lesser Basilisks are the most dangerous monsters on this Map after all.
Not only can they Petrify you, they also have access to Instant Death.
Psycho Pod is a must.
I also want to use javelins and kukris knives as weapons against them.
Even though their accuracy is low, having a means to attack them from a distance is valuable.

Time to choose my weapons.
I had a Petrified Wood Tonfa in my left hand, and I’m not changing that.
In my right hand, however, I now have a Lion Sage’s Foil.
That’s right.
Even though the terrain is like this, I’m willing to try using a weapon that is only good for stabbing.
The idea is to use it to quickly blind the Lesser Basilisks.
That’s all there is to it.
A spear’s length could get in the way, so a rapier is better for this task.
I ought to wield it skillfully.

Well then.
Let’s do this.

《【Charm Resistance】Level Up!》

Umm…
Kiyohime and Strand both become entangled with the last remaining Lamia.
The three snake-like bodies intertwine and writhe.
I don’t know where to attack anymore!

Besides…
Peptide is moving around unexpectedly well here.
I thought he might be at a disadvantage in the forest.
But he not only sets up ambushes from the thickets…
He’s also quite skillful at climbing trees.

This won’t do.
I’m the only one who has trouble moving around here!

《【Unconscious Resistance】Level Up!》

That was close.
Those last Mangshes were dangerous.
I got swallowed whole.
I never expected to be ambushed by a second one!

How do I feel?
Like Issun-Boshi, or Little Thumbling.
Thankfully, the Mangshe stopped moving after I stabbed it enough times with my rapier from inside.
Paralysis must have proc’d.
You can’t see a monster’s markers from inside its body.
And besides…
It’s scary to think about being slowly digested inside this giant snake.
It’s really scary!
I had thought all it had going for it was its huge size!

【Recovery Item】Eightfold Refined Liquor MP +10% Grade C+ Rarity 7 Weight 0+
Prevents status ailments for a certain period of time while recovering the MP bar.
Quite sweet sake. Be careful, as continuous drinking will make you drunk and pass out!
Use it like a regular Potion or Mana Potion.
Be careful as it will also interfere with other recovery items.
※ Cannot be used continuously. Cooldown is approximately 30 minutes.

This time around, I got an item as well.
It’s actually sake!
And it has a great effect!

So Mangshes drop these, huh?
They’ve become my new target.

《【Rapier】Level Up!》
《【Instant Death Resistance】Level Up!》

What a situation…
Time is running out.
It looks like dawn is about to break.
Yeah.
I haven’t encountered any Mangshes yesterday during daytime.
The same goes for Huashes.
It’s highly likely that they can only be encountered during nighttime.

I’ll have some more sake from you, if you don’t mind.
Please, can I have more of that Eightfold Refined Liquor?
I’m not an alcoholic or anything, but please!
I only have one of those!

Hey, you Lesser Basilisk! Get out of my way!

《【Discern】Level Up!》
《【Jump】Level Up!》
《【Acrobatics】Level Up!》
《【Sleep Resistance】Level Up!》
《【Silence Resistance】Level Up!》

Hey!
Somehow, I managed to see through the Lamia’s ambush, so even my 【Discern】 has leveled up!
This was very profitable.
I have no complaints.
None at all, but…

Although I’m using Call Monsters to summon and hunt Mangshes…
They aren’t dropping any more sake.
That’s right.
But why?
Is my 【Disassembly】 Skill dead?
I don’t understand.

《【Petrification Resistance】Level Up!》

This is bad.
I need to stay calm.
I almost got myself Petrified back there!
I can’t be impatient.
I’ll eventually get some more sake.
I have to believe that.
It would do me no good to get myself killed for trying too hard to get my hands on some booze.

At any rate…
It’s a mystery.
Am I missing something?

《【Identify】Level Up!》

The time is 5:50 AM.
I might have finally solved the mystery.
It seems that I have to defeat the Mangshes from inside their own bodies.
I tried killing three more after letting myself get swallowed by all of them, and managed to earn 1 more Eightfold Refined Liquor.
This is no confirmation
And getting swallowed by these huge snakes does deal some damage, you know?
It’s definitely painful.
I could end up losing consciousness.
Do I want this thing that badly, to be taking such a risk?

Of course I do.
But, you know…
It’s already morning.
Call Monster is no longer picking up the presence of any more of these snakes.

It’s a shame.
And a tragedy.
It seems my equipment has taken quite a hit too.
Oh well, I guess that’s that.
Shall I make it breakfast?

I’ll deploy an Instant Portal.
Let’s repair the equipment with the Magic Cloth.
I’ll also recall Tigris, Strand, Peptide, and Kiyohime.
I’ll get moving right after breakfast.
The plan is to go to Twilight Castle.
I want to get Heather’s equipment ready.
But before that, let’s hunt some goats and sheep on the neighboring S1W5 Map for items.
I’d like to secure some materials for Modulus’ knitting work.

Well then.
Let’s summon Bunraku, Aotsuki, Couturier, and Kurama.
Modulus for knitting, Bunraku for cooking.
Aotsuki and Couturier for traveling…
And what about Kurama?
He’s to be my sparring partner.
This will be limited to standing techniques, though.
It’s really nice to have someone I can match in size and fight with.
That’s what I think.

After going through the sparring session and enjoying the meal made by Bunraku…
Modulus finished her work.
What does it look like?

【Armor: Accessory】Snow Goat Scarf Grade C+ Rarity 5 Weight 0+
 Durability 40
A scarf made of Snow Goat Fur. Contains the power of ice.
※【Heat Resistance】Skill +2 Ice Attribute Damage Reduction [Slight]

It’s the opposite of the Flame Sheep Scarf.
Well, that makes sense.

There’s still some yarn left to spin.
This should be enough to make another scarf.
But I’d like to have some more.
Well then.
Shall we go procure some?

Let’s change the lineup.
I’ll recall Bunraku, Modulus, and Kurama.
What’s the final lineup?
It’s Couturier, Shishiku, Kotohogi, Aotsuki, and Sputter.
Yes, I’m adding Shishiku too.
I want to see his fighting style in the air while he earns some experience points.

《【Poison Resistance】Level Up!》

I tried fighting against Wyrms all the way from this S1W6 Map to the neighboring S1W5 map.
And how was it?
No change.
Shishiku’s flying fighting style isn’t much different from how he fights the ground.
The fact that he is flying is indeed a difference, but his fighting style is fundamentally unchanged.
Well, there are some things that did see some changes, though.

His eagerness to eat corpses is impressive.
Yeah.
Try not to get a stomachache, okay?
And now he has the Dark Attribute.
So now he can shoot dark strips.
And dark spheres too.
In any case, it seems that his attacks have become more diverse.

Well then…
Psycho Pod is doing a good job, right?
The Stray Sheep are troublesome.
And the Blaublitz’s lightning also causes Paralysis.
So Resist Thunder is a must.
Getting Paralyzed in mid-air won’t do us any good.

I’m aiming for Scarlet Sheep and Schnetzieges.
Time to hunt some sheep.
And some goats.
They’re monsters, though.
