The Summoner is Going c243 Part 2

Well then.
I suppose we could take some time to verify that theory.
I decided to call a lower level Amenofuchikoma using Call Monster and take it down only using spells.

It was a step in the right direction to prove Irina’s theory.
But we were now purposefully attacking the strong point of the monster instead of its weakness.
Just by doing that, the difficulty of the monster would probably increase by a lot.
Even if Irina’s theory was right, it would definitely make acquiring the skins more difficult than acquiring the skins of horses in other maps.

The only attack spell I dared to use was Force Bullet.
I wanted to avoid spells with short cast ranges as much as possible.
There would be no arrows fired either.
I called all of the Summon Monsters to use their Special Abilities too.

Well then.
In preparation, I recalled Volff.
I summoned Obsidian.

「Everyone ready?」

『Yep!』

`『Roger!』

Amenofuchikoma Lv.1
Monster Enemy Target Active
Battle Position: Ground All Attribute Resistance

The prey we were looking for quickly came to challenge us.
Come on!
We’ll take you down in no time!

《Job Level Up!》

Well, I could leave the Job level-up for another time…
As expected, the horse was quite weak at level 1.
Or rather, the barrage of Force Bullets was too great.
Even so, it was amazing that it took us about 10 minutes.
No, it was actually amazing in quite an ugly way…
It was a one-sided slaughter all the way through.
I felt like stabbing it with my spear to put it out of its misery…
Did the fight get to my heart a little?
No, that was also a test for me.
In a mental sense.

What was the result of the experiment?
Hyodor tried collecting the item drops, and got another piece of Amenofuchikoma Skin.
I wanted to hunt a little more to really confirm it though…

「Well, what are we going to do about this?」

『It’s quite a rare item, right?』

Irina seemed to be interested.
But compared to Irina, Haruna and Konohana were several levels above in terms of excitedness.
They had the Production Job skill 【Sewing】 after all.
It was clear that they were aiming for the horse hairs as a material for their fabrics.

「Let’s try taking down a few more.」

『Yep, it would be good to confirm it first.』

Irina seemed to have no objections.
The other faces in the party also suddenly took on a motivated look.

They all had the eyes of a hunter.
The eyes of a carnivorous beast that has determined its prey.

『What about heading back to the Sunrise Lighthouse Area Portal?』

「Hmm?」

『If somebody logs out there, we’ll always be able to come back here whenever we want.』

「That’s true…」

Did anyone have anything against Konohana’s proposal?
Nobody spoke up.
If I had to think of something, I would say that we could already jump to the Grey Forest with Adele or Hyodor anyway.
But I had no objections.
We were going to hunt more horses on the way back, after all.

On the way back, we managed to take down about 10 horses using only spells… What was the result of that?
For all 10 of them, we only managed to collect the skins from 8.
I was quite curious about the item drop rate only being 80% though, and not at 100%.
Was there something reducing the drop rate?
Was it something that we were doing?

I couldn’t put a finger to anything that would matter.
We tried hunting 10 more, and the item drop rate was about 90% then?
Also collecting the Amenofuchikoma Skins was actually quite easy!
The horses weren’t the only monster we had to deal with either.
There were also other monsters.

Frigate Bird Lv. 4
Monster Enemy Target Active
Battle Position: Air

This guy again?
Maybe the same idea applied, and defeating it without spells would get us different items.

『Defeat it without using spell damage?』

「Let’s just give it a shot.」

There were four Frigate Birds we had to deal with.
These birds had the advantage in numbers.
That was a good idea on their part.
Without using any wall spells, the fight was quite tough, and Zangetsu ended up taking quite a bit of damage.
When I first made contact with the Frigate Birds, it was a great blunder that I had the Lion Sage’s Lance in my hand.
Because it was so heavy, small turns to hit the Frigate Birds wouldn’t work.
It was almost completely useless against them!
I managed to make up for it by switching to my Petrified Wood Staff though.
It was still difficult to knock them down to the ground, but we were still able to take them all down with the help of Helix and the other flying Summon Monsters.
After the battle was over, I looked around to see that there was a scary amount of damage on everyone.
Well, that was part of the experiment too. It couldn’t be helped.
I had no choice but to accept the loss.

When I tried to collect the item drops, I got an item that was quite standard.

【Material】Frigate Bird Wing Raw Material Grade C+ Rarity 4 Weight 1+
The wings of a Frigate Bird. Very light, smooth, and suitable for gliding through the air.

It wasn’t that good, actually.
Hunting those Frigate Birds without using any spells didn’t take that long, but I would have to be prepared to take quite a bit of damage.
Well, to find out whether that would be worth it, I would have to wait for how the arrows made with Frigate Bird feathers would turn out.
I could leave the conclusion for another time.
For the time being, I wanted to prioritise hunting the horses.

At some point, we managed to make it back to the Sunrise Lighthouse.
The time was 2:10 pm.
Was the whole journey just a waste of time?
No, we learnt some good things along the way.
It wasn’t in vain.
I decided to think about it that way.

Once we arrived at the Area Portal I stood around, waiting for Konohana to log out and log back in again.
Konohana came back in no time, and after she summoned her Summon Monster team again, we immediately left.

It was time for some hunting.
I was slowly turning into a manifestation of a desire for blood, but I suppose that didn’t really matter.
It wasn’t my first time feeling that way, after all.
Yep, greed was a scary piece of magic, capable of bringing forth a lot of scary motivations.
And that greed has no bounds.

Ophion Snake Lv.4
Monster Enemy Target Active
Battle Position: Ground Water Attribute Earth Attribute

「We’ll hit this guy until it goes down, alright!?」

『Okay!』

The Ophion Snake was poisonous.
Fighting in close quarters would be risky.
But I still stepped in to fight it up close anyway.
I could trust that Zangetsu was fast enough to dodge any attacks.
I devote myself to hitting it with my Petrified Wood Staff.

But it seemed like the Ophion Snake was not as tough of a monster as I thought it would be.
More than half of the attacks and the arrows that were shot at it were nullified simply because the arrows would slip off of the surface, but after a few direct hits, the Ophion Snake went down anyway.
What about its venom attack?
None of us were hit by its balls of venomous spit.
It didn’t even have that bad of a smell after we took it down.

《【Synergy】Level Up!》
《【Identify】Level Up!

So, what did we get as item drops?
We managed to get Strange Stones.
But it somehow dropped five of them.
Five Strange Stones from one Ophion Snake?
Honestly speaking, it seemed like a very strange haul.

We continued to move south while hunting any horses that we ran into.
On our left, the coast was steadily approaching.
I didn’t expect it, but about half of the map was taken up by the sea.

As we continued heading south, our stock of item drops kept increasing.
But…
There were still some unsolved issues left.
What were we going to do about those giant hermit crabs?

We encountered them, but they never became active.
They were clearly monsters, but they were still always passive.
I was starting to get a bit concerned with the fact that they were always ignoring us.

Well, I still wanted to prioritise mobility and horse hunting, at least for the time being.
It looked like taking down one of those hermit crabs was going to take a while, after all.

And our march wasn’t so bad either.
We reached the southern end of the S3E1 map at 4:20 pm.
At that time, Adele and Irina got level-ups to their Racial Levels, Job Levels, and even their Summon Magic skill.
Did that mean that the two of them finally had enough Bonus Points to learn 【Speedcasting】?

『So close! I’m only 1 point away!』

『You get it now, right? Adele…』

『Yeah, I just wanted to say it out loud.』

Hey, hey.
But that presented a problem.
Adele and Irina wanted to keep going to the S4E1 map.
But Haruna and Konohana wanted to stay and hunt horses.
What should I do…?

『I think it’s okay for us to keep going.』

『It wouldn’t hurt to aim for some more Bonus Points anyway.』

Ooh!
Haruna and Konohana were very understanding, saving me from having to make a tough choice.
With the decision made, I changed my Summon Monster team to one that was more suitable.
I recalled Obsidian and summoned Volff.
It was going to be our first time on the map.
I couldn’t get overconfident and forget to have a scout on my team.

The time was 4:50 pm.
That was when on the wide area map, we entered the S4E1 map.
But the only difference I could notice was that the coast on our left was starting to slowly drift away from us.
I guess that meant that less of the S4E1 map consisted of the sea.
What was the terrain like?
I had a feeling that it wouldn’t be flat.
And I was right. S4E1 was a mountainous region.
I could see mountains in the distance.
The only thing upside was that the mountains didn’t seem too steep. They looked almost more like hills.
The trees dotted here and there looked different too.
I tried using Call Monster to find any monsters in the area.
There were none.

The strongest enemies on the S5 map were the Sphinx and Spinks.
There were dinosaurs in S4W1.
The map was also 5 squares away from Remut, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were strong monsters in the S4E1 map as well.
Alright…
There was only one way to find out what was waiting for us.
