The battlefield calmed down again in no time.
We were doing a good job of thinning down the field of Flower Spirits.
The last Flower Spirit was being sucked dry by Telomere.
No, Telomere stripped the last Flower Spirit of his hood and then sunk her teeth into his neck, but she immediately separated from it afterwards.
It didn’t have any blood for Telomere to suck anyway, so I guess I might have been using the wrong word to describe it.
Instead, she backed up a bit and swung her hammer at the back of the Flower Spirit’s head to deal the finishing blow.
It was a really fancy way to deliver the finishing blow.
But how did I fare against the Flower Spirits?
The versatility of the naginata they were carrying was certainly troublesome, but it was easy for me to overwhelm them because I was mainly fighting with brute force.
But I still had a long way to go.
Certainly, it felt good to swing my mace around without a second thought.
And above all else, it was easy to do.
The roughness of the fighting style probably did something to attract more Flower Spirits to me too.
But in any case, I still felt bad for the massacre I just did against the Flower Spirits.

That was the only reward for my troubles.

It would do just fine.
Hyodor’s Imp levelled up too.
We could think of it as a good opportunity to practice before the battle at the Area Portal.
As in the past, the Flower Spirits disappeared without leaving anything behind.

I prioritised movement and kept hurrying ahead.
As we ran through the night, only Gargoyles bothered to attack us.
Well, I suppose that couldn’t be helped.
I was honestly more concerned about the terrain.
As we proceeded, the hill we were climbing seemed to keep getting steeper.
As we kept looking for the easiest place to pass, at some point we managed to find ourselves in a valley.
We were sandwiched on both sides by cliffs.
It was getting a bit too cramped for us to have fights against the Gargoyles.
But it did make intercepting the Gargoyles’ attacks a lot easier.
After heading south through the valley for some time, the valley opened up to a wide space.
It looked like empty plains.
It was empty plains surrounded by steep cliffs in every direction. The only ways out were four valleys stretching in each direction of a compass, almost like the plateau was a crossroads of sorts.
I prepared for a change in magical power in my surroundings by casting the spell Sense Magic.
There were no traces of other players around.
The wide area map showed that we were about in the centre of the S4E1 map.
No doubt about it.
We managed to make it to the Area Portal.
It was more important than ever to make sure all our strengthening spells were active, so we took a moment to take care of that.
But after that, there was nothing left to do but step forward to challenge it.

That was all the info screens.
I noticed a spirit in the shape of a floating fire in front of me, but it didn’t look like anything else was about to change.
Nothing else appeared.
What happened to the monsters that were going to challenge us?

The ground is shaking.
An earthquake?
A low sound echoed off of the surrounding cliffs.
What was the source of the sound?
Did it come from the cliffs?

The figure of the monster was comparable in size to the Summon Monster I saw acting as the gatekeeper of Master’s house.
It looks like the design was a little different compared to Master’s Stone Golem though.
There was something else on its shoulder.

A Yokai?
It looked like a Japanese-style beauty, with a flashy dress, not too unlike one an Oiran would wear.
It was laughing.
No, it was actually sneering at us.
From its high position on the Stone Golem Slave’s shoulder, it looked down at us.
Was it insulting us!?
「Keith! It looks like we’re not just up against the one you’re looking at right now!」
It was exactly as Irina said.
From other cliffs, and in a similar way, three Stone Golem S;aves with Stone Fairies on their shoulders looked down at us.
There were 4 pairs of them in total.
What’s worse, they appeared from all directions around us, almost as if to surround us.
Oh dear…
「Don’t stop moving! Take advantage of the tanks and try to stay alive!」
That was all I could say.
Everyone else was strong.
I could leave the rest to them.
To be honest, I didn’t have a choice but to believe that.
「True Practiced Spirit!」「 Bless!」「 Meditate!」
I used some Weapon Artes to boost my stats and then ran up to the nearest monster with a mace in one hand, and a tonfa in the other.
It was a big opponent.
An opponent comparable to that big golem I saw several times at Master’s house…
It was definitely going to be a strong monster.
It had to be strong! But I just had to do my best anyway!
A terrible truth became clear to me soon after the fight began.
Pitfall didn’t work at all!

No, I had a feeling it wasn’t a problem with the spellcasting process.

But suddenly, a wall that I knew came from the spell Stone Wall appeared to hinder the movements of one of those Stone Golem Slaves.
But the Stone Golem Slave broke through it like it was made of cotton candy!
It was due to sheer good luck that Irina and her Summon Monsters managed to escape from behind the wall before they were overrun.
What!? How did that happen?
『Keith! This feels weird!』
「I know!」
I selected, casted, and then used another spell that I had in mind.
「Lower DEF!」
I chose three of the Stone Golem Slaves as my targets.
A small marker overlapped two of the three red markers.
Hmm?
It wasn’t that the spells were completely ineffective…
「Pitfall!」
I tried using Pitfall once again.
But…
Nope.
But why did the spell fail? Why did Lower DEF work fine?
I didn’t have much time to think. I dodged a big fist headed my way from one of the Stone Golem Slaves and returned it with a strong hit to the ankles using my Snow Beast Mace.
The attack did damage.
It wasn’t much, but the attack did do damage.
「Don’t use Earth Attribute spells on these guys! They probably don’t work on these!」
『Okay!』
It was just a theory, but I didn’t have anything better to go on.
But I was quite sure.
Other Earth Magic spells would probably fail too.
I turned my eyes to Obsidian and Telomere.
I didn’t say anything, but I had a feeling they knew what I was trying to tell them.
Which one of the two monsters would be good to defeat first?
It was obvious. The Stone Fairies on the Stone Golem Slaves’ shoulders had to be behind coordinating the Stone Golem Slaves.
But…
Looking up, I saw a terrifying sight.
The sky was filled with Gargoyles.
There were probably at least 10.
Damn it!
There was no way we were going to escape through the skies either!
「Invisible Blind!」
I used the spell where I saw Adele and the others gathered together.
It seemed like the spell worked. The monsters quickly lost sight of them.
It would buy them some time.
「One by one! We can take them down! Make sure you stay alive! And tell your Summon Monsters to go on the support!」
『S- Sorry…』
『O- Okay!』
In the sky, Obsidian and the other flying Summon Monsters were fighting against the Gargoyles.
Telomere shot bullets of various attributes at the Stone Fairies.
Just a little while…
We just had to buy a little more time.
