Chapter 275 – Wraith Party VS Jack Party 3 / The Unyielding Reality

275 – Wraith Party VS Jack Party 3 / The Unyielding Reality

The Finals of the White Group of the second stage of the All-Heaven Festival Contest.

We, the Wraith party, are clashing with the world’s 8th ranked Jack party.

They fell for our schemes in the beginning and we succeeded in defeating the Strongman Heavy Warrior Goliath.

While it resulted in the Destroyer Fran’s right arm being heavily damaged, we managed to create an advantage in numbers.

The battle rages on while her injury is being healed by the White Sorcerer Josh.

The Heroes of both parties have run out, sword in hand.

But, of course, this is not solely a one-on-one test of swordsmanship.

That’s because with all the abilities the Heroes possess, they can also be called magical warriors.

Wraith, who formed a contract with the main Water Spirit, can use Water Magic.

Jack, who refuses to form a contract with his Spirit, can use magic of any element.

They can be used in any way.

Water Blades and ice blocks assault Jack, he raises lumps of earth and produces sweltering heat to defend against them.

If Jack fires off Wind Blades, Wraith raises an ice wall to block it.

They both fire off magical attacks, they both fend them off until finally…they cross swords.

The sound of swords clashing reverberates throughout the Field as the two Heroes’ eyes meet.

A high-pitched sound echoes several times. The two of them are engaging in swordplay.

Wraith struggled with the disadvantages of his physique among other things, but Jack was better in terms of pure swordsmanship.

「You have a steady hand with the blade. It doesn’t suit your aloof attitude.」

「Yeah, yeah, that’s cos I was taught by the man you know too.」

Wraith gave a wry smile to Jack’s hidden message of『I can sense traces of the Unyielding Hero Altreed in you』.

Wraith respects his father from the bottom of his heart.

Once, that emotion went too far, distorting his thoughts, and keeping him from being a true hero.

But now, he accepts his feelings toward Altreed honestly.

He has thrown away his thoughts of ignoring the Spirit to recreate his father’s path.

That part hasn’t been communicated well to Jack.

That is because he, too, is someone who deeply respects the Unyielding Hero.

「I have learned from him as well.」

Magic swirls…

…around Jack’s holy sword.

He let’s it loose.

「…?!」

It was instant.

There was the sound of a fierce storm.

Then, the one that came crashing into the wall was the Hero on our side.

Just now, that was the Storm Hero Aerial’s…no.

It was a spell exceedingly close in power to the Storm Crash Wind Spirit Magic.

The storm was unleashed like a raging tempest.

I can only think of magic-users on the level of Merlin that are able to form magic like this without a Spirit’s assistance.

No, there is one more person.

There is a person who reached the nadir level of Wind magic.

The Unyielding Hero Altreed.

The coolest hero who stood on the top of the world without being chosen by a Spirit.

「Wraith… This is the power that you abandoned.」

Said Jack.

Wraith laughed belligerently while Magical Energy imitation blood dripped down his forehead.

「Is that so?」

I’m worried about him, but we have a fight that we can’t afford to look away from as well.

Even without the Hero, our opponents are three seasoned Adventurers.

One of them is the Rainbow Wizard Leslie, a Wizard ranked just below the Wizard of Foresight Merlin.

He cannot display his tremendous skill because he is Full Resisting my Black Magic.

He is protecting himself and his friends by circulating White or Black Magic, neither of which is he skilled with, around them.

One of them is the Sure-shot Archer Shio, said to be the world’s second best non-magic using, pure archer.

Knowing the threat that he poses, I shoved a Blank Space into his mind at the very start of the match.

He may be one of the best, but he cannot display his skills if he can’t even draw his bow.

However, with Leslie’s Resist, the Blank Space shoved in his mind has been dispelled.

The last one is the Sturdy Paladin Mildred, former knight of the Knights Order.

She is an excellent knight who brings along her real combat experiences into Clears.

Right now, she is acting as a shield to protect Leslie and Shio.

Her protection can be likened to that of a fortress.

She cannot be overcome without overwhelming force or a cunning plan.

The Jack party’s composition is considered classic in terms of the broadcast Dungeon Clears.

In terms of reliable strength and charm, they boast tremendous popularity, but on the other hand, they will have trouble when their weak points are targeted.

Just like how the world’s 4th ranked Fenix party against the Succubi’s Charm in the Demon King Castle’s fifth stratum.

They will struggle when faced against an unusual foe due to their lack of Magical Energy to Resist or lack of a White Sorcerer.

In this age, such an unusual foe is few and far between due to the demand issues, so there are fewer parties that have a White Sorcerer…

At any rate…

It can only be said to be bad luck for this party of five, three members of which possess no way to Resist, to go up against me, a Black Sorcerer who was given the role of the Demon King Army’s Chief of Staff.

After all, that is the job of the Black Sorcerer in the first place.

A support Job that uses their all to ensure that the enemy cannot exert their full power.

「Our leader will win. We will win!」

I’ve already come up with a plan and shared it with my allies.

The loss of Goliath was huge, but our opponents are already starting to recover.

They may have crumbled, but not completely. Perhaps due to their depths of experience as Adventurers, they are not underestimating us as they were before. How troubling.

「I’m counting on you guys.」

The three of them each responded to me.

The Ogre White Sorcerer Josh and the Cyclops Miner Melania both shouted「Alright!」 with gusto, and the Destroyer Fran gave a faint nod.

The battle progresses.

Melania goes down on one knee and raises her shield.

To protect Josh and I, she becomes a giant wall.

Fran rushed out from under that shadow.

No matter how strong Mildred’s defense is, Fran will crush it.

That is what we believe.

Under normal circumstances, Leslie would intercept the enemy with magic, but he’s currently on guard against my Black Magic.

And me, the person he’s wary of, is currently…not firing any Black Magic.

I’m not shooting out Black Magic and instead, regenerating my Magical Energy.

But even so, Leslie cannot dispel his Full Resist.

The difference in time and Magical Energy needed to keep a spell that was cast going compared to dispelling that and then starting another one from scratch is incomparable.

So to Leslie, just because I’ve let up in my attacks does not mean he should dispel his Full Resist.

Because if he did, he and his allies might be assaulted by my Black Magic again.

That fear is a sound one, and so, I don’t cast any Black Magic.

He is continuously draining his Magical Energy in the off-chance that I might attack.

And in that time, I am able to save up Magical Energy to use for any later Black Magic spells.

But this plan cannot last forever.

Even while maintaining Full Resist, Leslie is regenerating his Magical Energy.

It’s regenerating at a rate far slower than normal, but it is regenerating.

In other words, this is the plan.

We attack the three of them before one of the world’s strongest Wizards is able to save up enough Magical Energy for an attack spell which will wipe us out.

We get through Mildred, the Human fortress, deal with the arrows let loose by an unparalleled archer, and defeat those three.

「Grk?!」

It was an instant.

An arrow pierced Josh’s right hand.

He blocked one of Shio’s arrows that was meant for me.

「Josh!」

「This much…is nothing!」

With Melania acting as our shield, it is impossible to shoot at Josh and I from the front.

That would be the end of it for a regular archer, but Shio is the second best magic-less archer in the world.

He is accurate enough to shoot curved shots at targets that he can’t see.

And it wasn’t just one shot.

「Fran!」

Screamed Melania.

I found out through the live commentary that Shio’s arrows have hit Fran one after another.

She appears to have received all the shots with her giant right arm but…that’s impossible.

Fran’s physical prowess is tremendous.

No matter how skilled an archer may be, it is next to impossible to hit her while she’s dashing.

No matter how excellent of an archer Shio is, there is no way that he could simply shoot our Destroyer, the one with the natural talent to grab victory from the jaws of defeat.

That means there is more to what is happening than skill.

If…if what I’m thinking of is right, then this is truly fearsome.

Destroyer’s are simply strong. They sometimes perform feats outside the realm of common sense in order to pull themselves to victory.

If Fran is willingly receiving all those arrows with her massive right arm, then that act will bring us closer to victory.

Fran’s instincts are telling her that charging directly towards the opponents while disregarding the damage is the path to victory.

It is also possible that Shio is putting himself in a situation where he has no choice but to make such a decision.

What if he is shooting down Fran’s path to victory…?

If he has the power to read even the actions of a Destroyer and shoot his bow…

His senses must be far more unique and special than that of normal people.

They are ranked 8th among the tens of thousands of parties. He is a powerful man who ranks among the top ten groups.

Of course he cannot be dealt with by ordinary means.

I won’t change the plan.

I grasp what’s happening in the battle through the live commentary.

Fran is confronting Mildred.

Fran swung her right arm that has been pierced by countless arrows.

Mildred guarded against it with her shield. Instead of being blown away, she only moved back slightly.

I could tell from the assault of curving arrows that Shio once again had his sights on me.

Josh cast White Magic on himself and using his races physical ability and sturdiness, he knocked the arrows away, and sometimes repelled them.

He thinks of himself as a half-baked.

He doesn’t have any outstanding physical abilities as an Ogre and the Job he got was a White Sorcerer.

But that’s wrong.

He is a White Sorcerer that can fight.

Not one that just heals and supports his allies.

If he casts White Magic on himself, he can attack and defend utilizing his Ogre strength to its fullest.

He can fight, defend, heal, and even buff.

He has opened the path to becoming an all-rounder who can become his allies’ strength in any situation.

「Hnnn…!」

「Melania, hang in there. With you standing in front, we’re somehow able to deal with the arrows.」

Said Josh.

Melania seems to be assailed by a sense of helplessness since all she can do is watch over Fran’s assault and yet we are still under the threat of Shio’s curving arrows.

With his one comment, she was able to reaffirm that what she is doing is necessary for victory.

「Y-yeah!」

It’s because of Melania acting as a giant wall that Shio can’t shoot directly at us and has to shoot curving arrows.

In order to do that, he had to sacrifice speed, making them just slow enough for Josh to react to.

In the end, our enemy is a high-ranking party. We need each other’s power and a plan to fill the gap in ability.

However, the enemy has a plan too.

Fran…

She seems to be struggling against Mildred.

「That wasn’t a wound that could’ve been healed in that amount of time. Maybe, it’s because of… !!」

The White Sorcerer Josh repelled an arrow with his staff while his face expressed worry.

「Did you think our Goliath was taken out just like that?」

I could hear Mildred’s voice.

Fran’s arm was healed but not completely, and on top of that, Shio showered it with countless arrows.

While Fran has offensive ability that is unheard of for a ten-year-old, the key to it all is her monstrous right arm.

I suppose you could imagine it as a warrior with a damaged primary weapon.

It is not strange that her breakthrough power is reduced. In fact, that’s obvious.

「…You’re in my way.」

「It is for that purpose that I stand here.」

Looks like their battle will continue.

As I saw in the Raid Battle, she didn’t give up when her giant arm was cut off and she bit off the Chief of the Werewolves Marchosias’s windpipe.

Her tenacity and nose for victory is a force to be reckoned with.

She was an enemy at the time, but right now, she is a trustworthy and reliable ally.

「Lem…?」

Josh looked at me, puzzled.

「It’s fine, we stick to the plan till the end.」

「…Right!」

I used my free hand to touch my face and confirm the expression I have on.

I appear to be smiling a little for some reason.

I’m here to win, of course. I’m not happy that we’re in a pinch.

But even so…

As an Adventurer fan, I am happy that this traditionally formed party has surpassed my expectations.

On top of that, we’re…

「Everyone, Leslie has…」

As if to finish my sentence, he opens his mouth.

「…gathered enough Magical Energy.」

It was like a meteorite.

A spell that combines Fire and Earth magic, huh?

I giant flaming rock was falling from above.

Melania throws away her shield and covers us.

There was an impact, an explosion. Then light and heat.

My senses are in disarray as I dance through the air like a piece of paper blown about by the wind.

Rolling on the ground along with the debris of the broken Field, I frantically raise my shaking body.

Even while the world was shaking, perhaps eyeballs were still rolling, I somehow managed to confirm the situation.

A portion of the Field was heavily dented, black with soot.

Melania was…nowhere to be seen.

She was defeated.

「…That was too fast for a spur-of-the-moment move. Was even this taken into consideration?」

As Leslie mumbles, a rain of light and heat comes falling down overhead.

Just before the heat rays pierced through me, someone picked up my body.

It was Josh.

Thanks to him carrying me and running like the wind, all the heat rays did was melt the ground.

「I’ll protect you just like Melania did!」

「Alright!」

Josh deftly avoids Wind Blade attacks and freezing spells aimed at his feet.

Even when Shio’s arrows pierce his body, Josh doesn’t stop.

A wall of fire rose up.

Using the opportunity created by Josh stopping for a moment, the wall becomes an enclosure.

The heat of the flames was enough to make you think twice about jumping through it.

Josh’s judgement was quick.

「I believe in you, Lem.」

「I know.」

Josh looked straight at me and said that.

When I nodded without hesitation, he replied with a smile.

And then, Josh threw me.
