Garn had escaped the mountain and hovered above it. Waving his hand, 7 new staves flew out of his ring and floated in front of him. Pointing in multiple directions Garn ordered them.

“Go!.”

1 staff remained in Garn’s hands, while 6 others flew off in different directions just outside of the mountain range before they staked themselves into the ground one by one. As soon as they entered the dirt, the staff in the very center of the mountain connected with them and the power between them amplified and grew.

*RAAAAAAAA!*

The Wind Beast exploded out from the center of the mountain and gloated bemusedly.

“You thought you could bury me in a mountain. You thought you could kill me that easily, bwahahaha.”

Garn ignored the beast’s words and continued to concentrate. Even going so far as to close his eyes and cross his legs as though he were meditating.

“You dare ignore me.”

The Wind Beast flew into a rage and shot out several long wind blades at Garn but his shield simply deflected them.

“Damn you, don’t ignore me.”

Garn still concentrated deeply, not even bothering to move.

“Damn you, human.”

Charging at Garn with his scorpion-like tail ready, with his faster movement speed and Garn’s seemingly lack of awareness, the Wind Beast appeared in front of Garn almost instantaneously.

“Die!”

Like a spear, the scorpion-like tail reached a terrifying speed and connected with Garn’s shield and pierced through like it as though it were made from paper. Garn was then struck directly in the chest. Garn’s face twisted in pain as he grit his teeth.

The Wind Beast roared with a belly full of laughter.

“HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!”

“I did it, I killed the great Master Garn. The strongest mage in all of Feya has been felled by me, a great Sky Beast of the Mirian Swamp.”

As the Sky Beast continued to laugh, Garn slowly opened his eyes.

“You fool, you talk too much.”

Garn extended the staff in his hand and simply touched it to the scorpion-like tail. As soon as he did, the staff, like a snake, coiled around the Wind Beast tail and began to glow. Garn flew back retreating hundreds of feet away in less than a second. The Wind Beast reacted quickly and tried to follow but the staff gripped its tail with strength and held it suspended in the sky.

Garn could already feel his power draining and chugged both a cure-all potion and a few mana potions in several gulps.

“What is this? What have you done?”

Garn could feel the poison in him was detoxified and felt his magic stabilizing and regenerating rapidly. As Garn spoke, the mountain below began to glow a dark shade of green.

“You thought that my magic powers had decreased, but I had already drunk a few mana potions before you even began pursuit.”

As the mountain grew brighter and brighter the Wind Beast started to feel a bit of pressure on its body. Circulating its power faster, it maintained its flying by adding power to the two wings upon its back.

“Besides this hole in my thigh and now this hole in my chest, my power recovered long ago. I merely appeared weak so you would pursue me to your fullest. In doing so I managed to separate you from your brother by a great distance.”

The mountain became brighter and brighter and the weight upon the beast increased several-fold and only a few seconds later, the beast was struggling to stay in the air.

“To take on the two of you together would be extremely difficult and even I’m not sure I could complete that task but thankfully I won’t need to do so.”

The power in the mountain became too much and the Wind Beast could no longer maintain its flight and plummeted to the mountain.

*Bang*

The Wind Beast, with great difficulty, managed to stand.

“You think this stupid thing will keep me here. I just have to part with my tail.”

The Wind Beast used a wind blade to sever its tail and wanted to roar in pain but decided not to give Garn the satisfaction. With the staff now off of its body, the Wind Beast tried to take a step forward but found that its body could no longer move.

“What!”

The pressure increased once more and the Wind Beast collapsed to its stomach. Looking up in hatred, it cursed Garn to the depths of hell.

“Damn you! Damn you to the 7th layer of hell. I hope you burn you old devil.”

Garn shook his head.

“This is why I say you talk too much. Goodbye.”

Garn shut his eyes once more and finally was allowed the time to slowly heal his wounds. Down below however something unsightly was taking place.

“Damn you Damn you Damn you. Release me! Fight me fair and square. I’ll destroy you, I’ll bury you a thousand miles under the surface.”

The Wind Beast shot forth hundreds upon hundreds of wind blades at Garn but because Garn still had his barrier up, this wind did nothing more than disperse itself upon contact. Struggling, it tried to destroy the ground beneath it but found itself only sinking with each attack. It found that it could do nothing to escape.

(It’s over.)

The 6 staves outside of the mountain range fully activated and a ring of fire formed around the entirety of the mountain. The fire was over 2 thousand feet tall and nearly reached Garn. The Wind Beast saw this and began to panic.

“What is this? What the hell are you trying to do?”

Garn said nothing and watched in silence.

The surface of the mountain heated up at a terrifying rate and it was only seconds before trees all across the mountain were alight with flame.

The Wind Beast began to sweat and quickly erected a wind barrier and managed to push the flames back giving it a 50-foot perimeter.

When the surface of the mountain reached a certain temperature, something down below activated. Upon the ground, Garn had carved a few inscriptions around his staff. When the heat reached these inscriptions, they silently amplified the power within the anchor point of the mountain, Garn’s staff, before pulsing that power outward to the 6 staves outside of the mountain range.

The amplified power reached the 6 staves and the temperature of the flames grew. When the temperature grew, so too did the surface of the mountain. The ground split apart and cracked all over while smaller rocks started to glow red hot.

Smoke constantly billowed up, blackening parts of the sky.

The safe perimeter around the Wind Beast shrank and it could feel its skin starting to burn. It struggled some more but with Garn’s staff buried in the center of the mountain, the gravity it gave off would not allow him to be free. The Wind Beast saw no other option and howled desperately at Garn.

“Stop, please stop, I surrender.”

Garn said nothing and continued to focus on his injuries.

“Damn you, I said I surrender!”

Still nothing.

The more heat the inscription got, the more it would amplify the 6 staves, which would then increase the temperature once more. A repeated cycle was in place and now it could no longer be easily stopped.

Besides the Wind Beast, no plant or life of any kind remained alive on the mountain. The ground bubbled and liquified, turning into molten lava, with even large boulders melting away like butter on a hot pan.

The perimeter around the Wind Beast had shrunk and now part of its body was experiencing the heat. It did its best to fill itself with power and counter the heat but it was quickly losing this tug of war. Soon all of the fur upon its body had been burnt away followed by its flesh. As part of it began to burn and melt into the lava, it screamed in agony.

“AHHHHHHHHHH IT BURNS!”

This continued for a few more minutes but with this, the Wind Beast melted away in agony, dying painfully in a fiery hell.

Garn opened his eyes and inspected his body.

(Good.)

Looking over at the mountain, it had now completely liquified and most of it either sunk into the ground or spread out for hundreds of miles as it became a river of lava. The staves still persisted though. In a continuous cycle, heat, amplify, heat, amplify, until finally.

*Crack Snap Snap Snap Snap Snap Snap*

One by one, the amplified power overwhelmed each staff, overloading them with power and broke the crystal embedded within them. With their source of power gone, the staves became ordinary wood and burnt away in a flash. The inscription below the mountain could no longer function and quickly died out.

Garn extended a hand over the field of liquid death and flicked his wrist. A single staff flew up and out of the river of death before stopping in front of garn. Garn had his barrier up before so he couldn’t feel the heat but now with his original staff right in front of him, wave after wave of skin stinging heat assaulted him as his staff still dripped with magma.

Garn pointed a finger at his staff and like a vacuum, all of the heat began to rapidly leave his staff and pointing that finger away from him, the heat flew away into the sky, creating an odd distortion in the air that was visible to the naked eye.

Garn then summoned a bit of water and splashed his staff with it to make sure it wasn’t still too hot to hold. The water caused no sizzling or any reaction of any kind, letting Garn know it was now cool enough to touch.

Grabbing his staff, he gave it a quick spin and checked it for any abnormalities. With a nod of satisfaction he thought.

(Good. One down and one to…)

“BROTHERRRRRR!”

(Right on time.)
