Garn stood over Rust’s corpse and didn’t know what to feel exactly. This entire time, through the many decades that he knew Rust and thought him to be a friend, in actuality he was a poisonous dagger looming over his head, waiting for a chance to strike.

Garn now knew why Rust had set him up. It was all for the sake of avenging his father from long ago. Garn, however, found Rust’s actions pointless.

(You waited so long and plotted with the king just so you could kill me but in the end, you wasted time talking and failed to take a defenseless old man’s life…Fool. To think my poor Alice lost her life to you, you fucking waste. The only thing I’ve taken from this is to kill those that threaten me, whether they be the children of my enemies or those who pretend to be above me, I will no longer allow such entities to control my fate. Master, it seems I will have to break the promise I made to you oh so long ago. Forgive me but it must be done.)

Garn knelt down and searched through Rust’s belongings. Taking off Rust’s magic ring, Garn slipped it on his finger and sensed the contents inside. Willing his magic, a few items fell out of the ring.

A potion, a staff, and a few other things, Garn smiled at Rust’s corpse.

(Rust, it seems you were skimming off the top. To have this amount of wealth, you must have gotten a piece of everyone’s pie.)

Garn downed the potion and began rapidly healing himself. The broken ribs realigned and fused together, the internal bleeding reversed and new cells constantly formed and regenerated.

Garn coughed violently and a thick, black, nasty substance was spat up onto the floor. It was a foul-smelling sticky substance that was mostly dead cells and blood. Wiping his mouth, Garn stood up straight and felt a few pops as he stretched his body.

(Ah, that’s much better. Guess it’s time I pay my dear king a little visit.)

The cell door had slowly creaked open and Itsu had walked in, locking the door behind him. After opening a small box, a little creature covered in greyish-green slime and had many sticky tentacles for arms, moved about wildly. It had the face of a human with swelled up eyes as though it had been stung by a mass ants. The only thing missing from this creature’s humanish looking face was a nose, leaving a small gaping hole in the middle of its head. Kazuki could see directly inside of the creature through the hole on its head, allowing him to see bits of flesh pulsating and moving about disgustingly.

Two words slipped from Kazuki’s mouth.

“Mind Frey.”

Itsu’s eyes lit up.

“So with one look, you already know what this creature is. You truly do have your secrets, don’t you? No matter…Every secret you hold, every memory you hide, your good deeds and your bad, I will now see it all.”

Kazuki trembled, causing the chains that bound him to rattle about. Lowering his head in defeat, he said.

“I’ll tell you, so please don’t use that.”

Itsu shook his head.

“It’s far too late for that.”

Itsu pressed a small trigger on the table and an inscription on the wall behind Kazuki extended a small tendril of energy onto the back of his neck. The Mind Frey began to sniff with the gaping hole in its face and shot itself forward toward Kazuki. Landing on his face, the Mind Frey sniffed some more and followed the source of energy. Pulling itself behind Kazuki, the Mind Frey opened its mouth revealing row after row of spiraling jagged teeth. Finding the perfect spot on Kazuki’s nape, it bit down hard, attaching itself like a leech.

*Erh*

Kazuki grit his teeth and bore the sharp pain as he felt something being drawn from him and quickly went into action. Shutting his eyes, Kazuki concentrated on that strange force from his neck and began wrapping his ki around it like a tarp. Doing his best to encompass every bit of this foreign invasion.

The Mind Frey seemed to be a little slow for some reason but a moment later its eyes began to glow and blue light was projected into the air, forming an image.

“Now it’s time to find out the truth once and for all.”

The image show started out quite fuzzy as Kazuki did his best to block this invading energy. Because of this, the Mind Frey was having trouble reflecting all of the memories and so they moved at a noticeably slower speed. Usually, a Mind Frey could go through a person’s memories in their entirety in less than a minute or so but because of the resistance, Kazuki’s memories were playing at about 100 times slower than normal.

The first memory though finally fully formed and began to play out.

A young boy, no more than 4 or 5 sat silently at a table eating a small piece of black bread. The bread was hard and tasteless but the boy was content with just being able to eat. Around the table were other children of similar age, several boys and girls. An old ugly woman walked in and dragged Kazuki, as well as another boy out of that place and brought them to a large mansion. A beautiful woman, a handsome man, and a little girl greeted them.

The ugly old woman bowed respectfully and presented Kazuki and the other boy to the couple and their daughter.

“Masters, these are the two I spoke of. Both have excellent talent and show great potential.”

The handsome man stepped forward and his eyes began to glow. Looking over the two boys, the man nodded with a smile.

“Excellent, these two will definitely do.”

The man then held his hand out and the ugly old woman held her’s out with palms open. The man had no ring upon his fingers and yet things appeared and fell into the woman’s hands. Itsu was confused by the items, for he had never seen them in his entire life but there was one he did recognize. A small gem that was half black and half white fell into the ugly woman’s hands. Itsu saw this stone and his eyes went wide with shock and he yelled.

“Origin Jade, What the fuck!”

While Itsu was shocked by Kazuki’s memories, Kazuki was both interfering with the Mind Frey while also working on changing the inscriptions on his chains. The rate at which he was going through had been cut in half due to splitting his task between the Mind Frey and the chains.

(There must be a faster way.)

If Kazuki were to change every inscription on his chains it would take more than 30 minutes. Splitting his ki now though made the actual time double or even triple. That’s when a thought occurred to Kazuki.

(Is there an actual need to change them all?)

A ring glowed on the ugly old woman’s hand and the items she received disappeared into her storage ring.

Again she bowed.

“Masters thank you so much, thank you.”

The ugly woman bowed a few more times before she finally got up and left, leaving the Kazuki and the other boy behind.

The beautiful woman pushed her young daughter forward and said.

“Dear, introduce yourself.”

The small girl gave a tiny curtsey and said.

“I…I’m Fera, nice to meet you.”

The young Kazuki hid behind the other boy and seemed terrified. For some reason he got a bad feeling looking into the little girl’s eyes. It was almost like he was a rabbit and the girl was a snake, a predator. The other little boy showed no fear and took a small step forward. Shaking the girl’s hand he introduced himself without messing up his words.

“Hi I’m called Kai, and this scaredy-cat behind me is my brother, He’s called Kazuki.”

Kazuki stepped out from behind his brother and yelled at him.

“I am not a scaredy-cat Kai, you are.”

“What was that you wanna fight?”

Kazuki and Kai began to argue with each other before the woman got in between the two and wrapped them in a warm hug. With soft gentle words, the woman’s voice was angelic by nature.

“Family shouldn’t fight, right?”

Kazuki and Kai settled down and took another look at the beautiful woman before them. The woman smiled at them and the two brothers blushed simultaneously. Once more the beauty spoke.

“Kai, Kazuki, how would the two of you feel about becoming a part of my family. I would be the mother, my husband would be your father and my daughter Fera would be your big sister.”

Kazuki tilted his head in confusion.

“Huh, we can’t be family.”

Kai knocked Kazuki on the top of his head.

“Of course we can.”

Kai grabbed Kazuki by the head and pushed him down into a bow.

“We would be honored for you to adopt us.”

Kazuki was still a little confused by everything that was happening but Fera’s angry voice snapped him back.

“Eh, I don’t want them to be in our family. I thought you said we were just going to meet some guests. Why do we have to allow some poor beggar rats into our lives.”

The handsome man snapped at his daughter.

“Fera, what kind of nonsense are you saying. How can you be so rude, to those you’ve just met. Take that back or you’ll go without supper young lady.”

Fera’s eyes began to well up with tears as she stomped her feet.

“I won’t I won’t I won’t. I hate them I hate you.”

The man was about to snap a second time but Fera already turned and ran off and the man quickly followed behind.

“Dammit Fera, get back here.”

Kazuki didn’t know why the young girl was so upset and crying but he too felt tears start to form at the corner of his eyes. The angelic woman again wrapped her arms around him in a warm hug.

“There there, no need to cry. Mommy’s got you now. Everythings going to be ok.”

Kazuki’s tears faded away and he embarrassed the beautiful woman and his heart lifted. Kai felt a little left out and the woman saw this and hugged him as well.

“From now on, you two shall be my precious sons.”
