As the flame underneath him consumed more magical energy, Muteki accelerated faster and faster.

Muteki was upon Tilly in no time and with his arm covered in hardened black Gordonia, he punched her barrier once more.

*Bang*

Her barrier warped a little more and she was sent flying. Muteki didn’t stop there and caught up to her again before she could regain her balance and delivered a knee to the center of the barrier.

*Tear*

The barrier this time not only warped violently but also tore a few inches across Tilly’s barrier. As Tilly was sent flying away, her demeanor completely changed.

(This is bad. This boy’s strength is beyond normal. I have to get out of his range before its too late.)

The inscriptions upon Tilly’s clothes lit up and two small funnels of wind gathered around her legs and feet. A feeling of near weightlessness overtook her and her speed increased another degree higher.

Tilly flew into the distance trying to make some space between one another. She absolutely did not foresee Muteki being capable of using two different elements. Up to this point, she had only seen him use the element of Gordonia and because of that, she assumed that was all he was capable of. Who knew he was actually hiding an entire element up his sleeve.

Tilly’s speed was truly above others. As soon as she encircled herself with these small funnels of wind, the difference in speed became obvious and the distance between Muteki and Tilly grew further and further apart.

“Get back here!”

Mutek gripped the air and a spear made of rock appeared in his hand. He condensed it down from that of 20 feet into something around 9 feet. In doing so the rock-like spear hardened until it was nearly as tough as metal. Aiming for Tilly’s back, he materialized and launched this spear in less than a second.

The spear arced through the air like an arrow and rushed towards Tilly. This, however, was easy to dodge. Aiming for something standing still on flat ground was vastly different than aiming at a high speed moving target in 3d space. Tilly only moved slightly to the side and the spear flew past her, missing by a wide margin.

Tilly herself fired a few wind spheres behind her.

Compared to his spear, Tilly’s wind spheres traveled at a much greater speed. Add to the fact that he stood still when launching his spear, he hadn’t the time to dodge.

*Bang bang clank*

The wind spheres couldn’t penetrate the armor on his body but each one was filled with momentum and he could clearly feel some of the impact underneath.

Each wind sphere that landed atop his armor felt like someone was swinging a tree at his ribs. Because his body was tough he could take this pain but were it someone weaker, even if they wore Mutekis armor, their internal organs would have exploded and their body would have easily been crushed.

Muteki grit his teeth in pain.

(Damn this old bitch.)

The idea of one person needing to fight closely, while the other needed to fight at a distance was not left unnoticed by the two. While Muteki was both irritated and filled with excitement from the challenge, Tilly only felt that it was hilarious how things were playing out.

Muteki threw out several more spears but again because of them being in the air, to hit a fast-moving opponent in the sky was difficult. Not only that but every time he remained still to throw those spears, Tilly, on the other hand, would return fire with dozens of wind spheres. Not all of them hit Muteki but the ones that did, sent waves of pain shooting throughout his body.

Muteki grew more and more frustrated. Looking at Tilly, he couldn’t stand that smug expression she wore. It was a look which read, as long as I wear you down, you will not win.

An opponent that could not be hit but instead could continuously strike you was beyond infuriating.

(Fine, she won’t come to me and I can’t hit her unless she stands still, then let’s make it so she stays still.)

Muteki ascended upward, flying higher and higher. Tilly flew away as quickly as possible thinking he was after her but after Muteki passed her and continued flying higher she was left confused. He no longer tried to attack her and kept rising higher and higher. Soon he disappeared above the clouds.

Tilly grew cautious and didn’t pursue him and instead waited several hundred feet below the clouds. Staring upward she waited with her guard up.

A minute passed and then 2 and then 5. Tilly had no clue what was going on but something was definitely strange. To go up and check things out though was an unnecessary risk. Muteki could easily be waiting in the clouds themselves, hiding for an ambush. As soon as she flies up, there was no doubt in her mind that she would be battered by a multitude of his close combat attacks and her barrier would be destroyed. Once her defense was gone, there would be almost nothing she could do to contend against Muteki’s overwhelming attacks.

The sky began to grow dark as a cloud slowly floating in front of the sun.

(What in the 7 hells is that shitty brat up to? To fly above me just to wait to ambush me. He must know I’ll never be so stupid as to go up there. So then what is he waiting for. To spend so much time up there, wait, could it be?)

Tilly suddenly got a very bad feeling and could feel the small hairs on the back of her neck stand at attention. Still, she could not find any sight of Muteki in the skies. Her heart started racing with a thought.

(To wait above for so long, if it truly is a trick it couldn’t be as simple as waiting. It has to be something else. If he were to get above me and disappear above the clouds, couldn’t he fly off into the distance somewhere out of sight and then before I know it, lands on the ground far away and then come in from under me.)

With this thought, Tilly’s eyes darted to the ground below, looking for any sign of attack but to her surprise, there was actually nothing. No matter where she looked down below, she could find no attack whatsoever, not even a glimpse of Muteki’s shadow could be seen.

(Shit, this must be the trick I look away for a moment and he attacks me.)

Tilly looked back up at the sky above expecting an attack at any moment but again nothing came.

(Damn, I might be too old for this. I’m floating here and nothing is happening, did he really just leave. I don’t have a lot of power left and although its winter, with all this fighting I’m burning up. It doesn’t help that the sun is beaming down on me and…)

With that thought, something struck her as weird.

(The sun.)

Tilly looked out of the corner of her eye and there the sun was in it’s expected spot. It was completely visible yet for some reason there was a shadow covering her. Looking down once more, she noticed, that not only was she under a shadow but the entire town of Edngaul was eclipsed in a shadow as well.

(What, what is that?)

Tilly looked up once more and she was left absolutely flabergasted by what she saw. The words couldn’t escape her lips to describe what was above her and even her thoughts were scattered but the realization of what it was, left her shaking in fear.

(A…a…mountain!)

When it appeared, how long it was there, how could she not notice, these were all the questions running through her mind. The answer to this mystery, no matter how hard she thought of it, she couldn’t figure it out.

What was even more frightening than anything else, however, was the fact that the mountain was moving. In her heart, Tilly wanted to be wrong, she wanted to believe that her eyes were useless pieces of garbage and that there was no way she was seeing what she was seeing but the closer the mountain drew near, the more reality struck her in the face.

The mountain was descending, it’s target clear. The town of Edngaul was about to disappear entirely from this world.

(No, I have to stop it. I can’t let that fall not here. I…I have to destroy it.)

A bottle appeared in Tilly’s hands and she quickly uncorked it. The contents inside though were not alcohol. A power undulated from within and with just a slight inhale, Tilly could feel a fraction of her power return. Tilly put the bottle to her lips and overturned it, draining it in one solid gulp.

*Burrrp*

As the liquid dispersed within her, magical energy began to flood her entire body. All the power she had used up until now was completely restored as though it had never left in the first place.

(So much gold down the drain for a single mana potion. If we survive this, these people better treat me to free drinks for the rest of my life.)

Tilly placed one hand a few inches above the other and cocked them back by her waist as though she were about to throw a punch. Power gathered between her palms and a rush of air began to rotate and grow.

(I’ll only get one chance at this.)
