*WHAM! CRACK! BOOM!*

Kazuki and the others constantly exchanged blows with the large insect monster. The collateral damage brought down several buildings and left the ground in many places carved up like a trench. The villagers saw they stood no chance. They had fought with the monster every time and every time it would either ignore them or play with them like a cat and mouse. The villagers both feared and hated this but still, they fought back.

However, every action they made was now obvious clear that what they had done was utterly useless. Watching the human-faced insect wreck havoc showed them the truth. This creature could have taken all of their lives at any moment but for whatever sick reason it didn’t. As they watched the brutal fight unfold in front of them, they realized the creature’s true strength and were left stunned.

All they could do at this moment was to gather the injured and flee to the outer rim of the village.

*Swish*

The creature coiled itself tightly before rapidly spinning and uncoiling itself in a circular motion. It’s large body accelerated exponentially and the segments on its back clacked together making loud cracking noises as it threw its head forward.

*BAM*

Kazuki leaped out of the way and another building exploded and shattered from the creature’s impact.

Kazuki quickly began to grasp its movements.

“Shin, right after it lands a blow against something its body falters for but a moment. Use your move at that precise second.”

Shin nodded and raced ahead. With the villagers out of the village, they were far enough away to not be as affected by Kimi. Kimi signaled everyone before pointing her staff at the monster and screaming.

“SOLAR FLARE!!”

An orb of light shot out from her staff and flew in front of the creature’s face. The ball lit up like a sun and exploded directly into the creature’s eyes, sending blinding light in every direction. Kazuki and the others knew perfectly well and shielded themselves but the creature was unaware.

The light flashed for only a second but the creature that should have been blinded was left completely unfazed by the brilliant light. Its black eyes blinked only once before it hissed out dreadfully.

*SCHhhhhhhh*

With the light failing to inflict any damage, the others didn’t merely wait around twiddling their thumbs. Sam again, leaped into the air and swung his hammer onto the beasts head.

*WHAM!*

Although he hit the creature directly on its head, the sound that came rang like metal on metal instead of metal on flesh. The Creature was affected though and it’s head lowered slightly. Once more it pulled its head back and like a crank it spun preparing to land a heavy blow on Sam a second time. Nunully though was ready.

A wall of ice appeared in front of Sam in a split second. Nunully called out to him.

“Jump!”

Sam kicked at the wall in front of him and pushed himself far way and not a second too late. The moment his toes separated from the wall of ice…

*Shatter*

The insect’s head crushed it into tiny fragments, causing shards of ice to fall down like a murderous rain. A roof nearby was covered in hundreds of holes and collapsed in on itself. Even parts of the ground exploded when the shards hit, sending dirt fragments into the air.

With its rotation complete, Kazuki saw its opening and roared at Shin.

“SHIN! NOW!”

Shin was already waiting. Jumping into the air, Shin spun and kicked out.

“VIPER WHIP!”

A blade of wind 3 feet across shot forward at an incredible speed. Before that blade of wind had even made it a foot away, with Shin still falling his body continued to spin and he kicked out two more times. Two more blades of wind followed immediately after the first.

*Schink Thwack Thwack*

The first blade of wind left a long scratch across the beast’s body but couldn’t cut through. The second though landed on nearly the same exact spot as the first, which caused a small crack on the insect monsters’ armored body. The third though was the exception and sliced directly into the flesh.

*RAAAHH*

A roar, different from the other noises it made up to this point, this though wasn’t of anguish but of fury.

A nasty foul-smelling purple blood spurted and spilled out from the creature’s side.

The villagers watched on with desperate hope. Even with their homes being constantly destroyed and felled, none of that mattered. If the monster could be killed, they could all search the cave and rescue their children. Rebuilding could all come later, what was important now was the kids and the death of the beast.

Villager after villager collapsed to their knees and began to pray as the battle raged on.

Asuna appeared at its side and stabbed the wound opened up by Shin.

*Shicnk Shicnk Shicnk Shicnk Shicnk*

With her speed, she plunged her two steel daggers into the open wound multiple times, slashing and shredding away at its insides. The creature turned and one of its eyes lit up like a rainbow and it shot a multicolored light at Asuna. Asuna brought her two daggers up to defend herself but…

*Shwaa*

The multicolor light went past her defenses and entered both of her eyes. Asuna froze and her eyes rolled up into her head before falling.

Kimi saw this and screamed at the top of her lungs.

“ASUNA NOOO!”

The creature lifted itself up before slamming itself downward with the intent to crush her.

Kazuki raced forward, this though wasn’t enough and Kazuki could see her death before his eyes. Kazuki held nothing back and filled his legs with ki, all of his ki. His speed exploded and his body disappeared.

Both hands swiftly yet gently scooped her up. With a kick from the ground, Kazuki grabbed Asuna and just barely leaped away in time.

*Boom*

The ground fissured and cracked.

The human face on the monster scrunched its wrinkled old face up in both rage and disgust. Kazuki had no time for its thoughts and turned and ran to get Asuna to safety. However, he could sense danger at his back. Looking behind him, every hair on his body stood up as the creature’s eye glowed with a multitude of colors before that very same light shot out.

Kazuki had no time to defend himself and simply ran but the light hit his open eye. As soon as it did, Kazuki felt his entire body go limp and he fell toward the ground. A sense of horror struck him, as he realized what happened.

(This is…a soul attack!)

Kazuki was still falling as his body was no longer responding to his commands.

(Not good, my body’s not listening.)

Kazuki could feel his mind slipping into darkness.

(No if I lose consciousness I’ll die, Asuna will die! Wake up dammit, listen to me…fucking body listen!)

It didn’t work. No matter how much Kazuki screamed inwardly, his body, his mind, everything was shutting down. His world was shutting down.

Kazuki’s eyes rolled up into the back of his head. Darkness engulfed his mind.

—————————————————————————-

“Kazuki…Kazuki did you hear me?”

*Whack*

Kazuki opened his eyes. In front of him, a small boy no older than 10 stood with both a happy and at the same time an annoyed expression.

“Kazuki did you hear what I said or do I have to hit you again?”

Kazuki’s eyes widened and his mind shook.

(This is?)

*Whack*

The young boy in front of Kazuki punched him on top of his head.

“Did that get your attention little dummy?”

Kazuki was shaken to his core. Staring at the person in front of him, he couldn’t believe it. He trembled and shook as two words barely slipped from his lips.

“Big…brother!?”

The small boy in front of him grinned at Kazuki.

“Oh, so he does speak. Kazuki what took you so long to answer. Lost in another world were ya?”

Kazuki looked all around and noticed he was no longer in Burashi village. There was no 100-foot insect monster with a human face nor villagers of any kind. Even Asuna who was just in his arms was nowhere to be found along with Sam and the others. Instead, what replaced Kazuki’s vision was an open field. Above his head was a large tree that seemed to stretch to the heavens while off into the distance was a large manor of some kind.

Kazuki was filled with confusion and muttered.

“I’m…home?”

The boy he called big brother smiled wickedly.

“Hmm, I wonder about that.”

Kazuki shook his head, not understanding what his big brother meant.

“Kai, what are you talking about? This isn’t home, then where are we and why are you a child?”

Kai roared with laughter.

“I’m not the only one who’s a child, look at this.”

Kai pulled out a mirror from who knows where and shoved it into Kazuki’s face.

The reflection he saw shocked him. His face no longer resembled Ryuta’s but instead his original face, his real face. Albeit his face from when he was a young child. Kazuki couldn’t help but pull at it and stretch it comically.

“Is this, is this real? Have I died, is that why you’re here as well?”

Kazuki was then filled with regret and he lowered his head in shame.

“Big brother…I…I have failed us both. I died before taking our revenge. That bitch never got what was coming to her. To die so simply, dammit!”

Kai shook his head and smiled from ear to ear.

“Little dummy, even now you’re still not using your head as you should. Whoever said you were dead?”
