It turned out to be a small child that Kazuki had thrown to the ground. The kid was appeared to be a few years younger then Mei. Being tossed so violently down, the boy’s head was now bleeding. Add to the fact that he was surrounded by strangers with weapons aimed at him, the small kid started wailing at the top of his lungs.

Everyone relaxed a little but Kazuki still remained vigilant just in case. Nunully climbed down from the wagon and approached the child.

“No, don’t hurt him.”

A scream entered their ears as a door to the largest building in the town square burst open and a young girl ran out. Followed behind her was another kid and another and another and so on.

Child after child piled out and ran over to the fallen boy. Quickly they surrounded him while holding forks and knives. Pointing them at Kazuki and the others the little girl who ran out first shouted.

“Don’t hurt him or you’ll have to fight us all.”

Though this little girl glared at Kazuki like she wanted to kill him, the weapons she held were but mere cutlery made for a meal.

Kazuki looked around but felt no danger whatsoever. He wondered if this could be a trap but it didn’t seem likely. Sighing, Kazuki put away his sword and apologized.

“Sorry about that.”

The small girl yelled angrily.

“Sorry, what sorry, you almost killed Mathew.”

Kazuki walked forward and the girl stabbed her fork and knife at him simultaneously. Kazuki had no need to block and when the silverware came in contact with Kazuki’s skin, the items bent due to his body’s toughness.

The girl jumped backward in surprise but Kazuki took a step forward and met her where she stood. She then threw a fist that Kazuki caught. Seeing that she could do no damage, the other kids jumped in to help.

Kazuki simply pushed them away before he reached the child called Mathew and picked him up.

The girl screamed and tried to kick and bite, whatever she could to stop Kazuki but none of it worked.

“Nooo Let him go, get away from him!”

The other children shouted as well but Kazuki ignored them and walked to Nunully’s side. Setting him down, Nunully worked her healing powers and the bleeding atop the boy’s head immediately stopped.

The children stopped their assault and became both stunned and confused.

“You see, when I and my friends entered your village, we found it odd that there was no one around. I thought we could be in danger so we took up defensive positions. That’s when I spotted your little friend hear peeking at me. Thinking it was an enemy, I reacted on reflex. For that, like I said, sorry. No need to worry though because my friend wearing the bronze mask over here, well she can heal your friend up in no time. Just take a look for yourselves.”

Right as he said that, Nunully really had finished healing the boy and his eyes slowly fluttered open. Waking up to the sight of a weirdo in a mask holding you the boy was ready to freak out any second. Nunully thought it would be quite annoying and so she removed her mask. When she did that, not only was the boy in her arms stunned but the other children as well fell to their knees and began to pray. The boy in her arms as well couldn’t help but utter the word.

“Angel.”

Kazuki chuckled lightly but he could understand mistaking Nunully as an angel, as her beauty could almost be considered celestial.

The little girl was the only one who did not fall to her knees and pray. Instead, a few tears began to stream down her face. As soon as she did that, one by one all the other 30 some odd children began to cry along with her.

Kazuki and the others were at a loss for words momentarily.

Kazuki had only apologized earlier because he really was wrong and brash in his actions when he threw a kid. Plus he didn’t like harming children, though had he known all these kids would have started crying as soon as they saw Nunully’s face, he might have let the kid just heal naturally so as to avoid all the tears.

Kazuki motioned at Nunully and she placed her bronze mask on once more. For some reason, Asuna felt a knot in her stomach from the kid’s reactions to Nunully’s beauty. The others simply found the kid’s behaviors to be weird.

Kazuki tried to calm them down.

“Hey hey it’s ok now. Now that you know we’re not bad and your friend is all better, could you go get your parents for me?”

As soon as he said that, like a trigger, the crying only grew worse. Shin laughed at Kazuki and swaggered over.

“Hehehe, Ryuta, when it comes to children you’ve got no skill at all. To get them to stop, what you gotta do is make them laugh. Here watch the master at work.”

Kazuki rolled his eyes, while Shin stepped forward.

“Oy! check this out!”

A few of the children looked over in curiosity. Shin then filled his lungs full of air and put his hands in front of his mouth in a particular way and blew.

*Brrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaap*

A sound similar to a fart played out from his mouth. Not only did it sound like a fart but Shin manipulated the air with his power, causing it to fluctuate in pitch as well as extend how long it played until it had lasted for nearly 20 seconds.

The children hearing this, however, only cried even louder. All of the ladies were disgusted by this, except for Mei. Mei began to crack up while holding her sides in pain. Kazuki and the other guys only felt it was so so and wondered how it could be only this much when Shin literally have the ability to manipulate wind.

Kimi found this interesting and tried her hand at this as well. She summoned 3 orbs of light and made then dance around in the air. They would glow brighter and dimmer in a set rhythm according to her will.

Kimi stood proud for a moment and waited. What kid wanted love a light show she thought. Sure enough, a kid was enjoying her light show and was rapidly chasing her orbs of light while trying to catch them between her hands. The only problem was it was only Mei who enjoyed it, while the other kids didn’t care about it at all and only continued to cry.

Kimi felt defeated and pouted in disappointment.

(Freaking brats, they wouldn’t know a good time if it fell on their heads, hmpf.)

This time it was Danny who stepped up to the plate. Everyone wondered what kind of water display would he put on to try and calm the children down. Opposite of their expectations, Danny didn’t use his water magic, instead, he walked over to a small boy who had tears and snot rolling down his face.

Kneeling down in front of the kid, Danny observed him before looking around at the other children. He seemed to pick something up and waved his hand in front of the child. A small red fluffy cloud of candy appeared in his hand. Danny then simply waited for a moment. He didn’t push the candy forward nor draw it back.

The kid seeing a bright red object suddenly appear was at first frightened but seeing as nothing bad was happening his guard lowered slightly. Then a sweet aroma drifted off of the cotton candy and filled the boy’s nose. He looked up at Danny and then at the candy in curiosity as a line of drool fell from his chin.

*Gurrurr*

The boy’s stomach began to growl and rumble. That is when Danny knew he had the child and pushed the treat forward, giving it to the boy. As soon as he did that the other children finally noticed this red fluffy candy and started to grow envious.

The boy though was lost in his own world. Slowly he opened his mouth and took a rabbit-sized bite. As soon as he did that his eyes went wide.

A sweet feeling he scarcely ever receives tantalized his taste buds. Being so far out in the backside of the country, it was beyond rare to get candy, let alone have sugar of any kind. The next instant the boy felt the fluffy soft candy melt away in his mouth like snow on the tongue. It was only now that he remembered there was more of the goody in his hands and he began stuffing his cheeks full of it.

The other children no longer cried and surrounded Danny. There stomachs as well began to grumble and growl.

*Grrurr*
*Grrurrr*
*Grrurrrr*
*Grrrur*

A young girl grabbed at Danny’s sleeve and gingerly pulled it.

“Uh…uh..um…can I have some as well.”

Danny nodded.

“Of course little one.”

With a dim glow of his ring, more and more cotton candy was passed out. Soon though he quickly ran out and there were still 10 kids left. Before the kids could start crying again, Asuna and Nunully walked over and they too shared cotton candy they had.

Kazuki was a little surprised they had not only bought cotton candy but had stored that amount for a later date.

(Am I surrounded by people with sweet tooths?)

Shin felt annoyed and nudged Danny in the side while whispering.

“Hey, when did you get so good with kids? Weren’t you supposed to be the worse with figuring out people, how’d you do it?”

Danny grumbled for a moment after being nudged but answered Shin anyway.

“It’s not that I’m good with people now. It’s just that I’ve been starting to notice one of my problems is I don’t try to understand people. One way of trying to overcome this is by observing. I observed these kids and noticed they were starving, that’s all.”

“What! what the heck led ou to that?”

Danny pointed a few of the children out.

“Look at those cheekbones, how prominent they are. The arms of that one are far too thin and the clothes are falling off of their bodies irregularly. I haven’t found any evidence of any adult being around and so I wondered who’s been feeding them all of this time but it seems that they aren’t really eating at least not enough anyway.”

Shin looked at the kids and sure enough, they didn’t seem to be doing well. Normally this probably wouldn’t have been overlooked but because only moments ago, there was a weird situation as well as crying, Shin hadn’t noticed up until now.

The oldest girl relished the treat. After finishing it, her head felt a bit clearer and she bowed to Kazuki and the rest. Seeing her do that, the other kids followed suit.

The girl felt this was her only opportunity. Seeing that these people in front of her were actually friendly and gave them treats, she felt maybe, just maybe these people would do something.

Knocking her head hard on the ground three times, the girl shouted at them in desperation.

“STRANGERS! PLEASE HELP US!”
