After Glacious’s not so subtle threats, Shin swam to shore and quickly put on some clothes. Asuna and the rest did so as well, not before everyone stole a peek of one another though.
Sitting down and eating fish, everyone devoured it as though it were their last meal. This was the best-tasting food they had ever eaten.
Fish after fish fell into their stomachs and they soon noticed a rapid change in their bodies. The thin frame they had straight out of the cauldron started to fill in. Muscles expanded ever so and skin became taught yet smooth. Looking around they began noticing the changes in the others as well. Hair was longer and glossy, muscles were tone and everyone had even grown a few centimeters.
After a while, stomachs finally began to swell and the excess energy started to burn at a slower rate.
Shin slapped his stomach and belched.
*Urrrp*
“Senior that was some tasty fish. What did you season it with?”
“You want to know?”
Shin nodded.
“Yeah, that was amazing. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten anything so good.”
Glacious snapped his fingers and one of his golems walked over. The ground trembled slightly with each step. Glacious pointed at his golem and said.
“You beat this one here and I’ll share the recipe.”
Shin looked at the others before turning back to Glacious.
“Senior are you sure? I don’t mean to be cocky, what am I saying of course I mean to be cocky. The strength I feel, the power coursing through me, I’ll turn your rock man into rubble. So Once again senior, are you sure, hehehe.”
Glacious nodded.
“As a matter of fact, if you beat him, I might just throw in a treasure. So, confident Shin, will you accept the challenge?”
Shin nodded repeatedly. Excitement started filling his chest.
“Absolutely senior! Let’s do this!”
Glacious nodded before snapping his fingers and ordering his golem.
“You! beat the shit out of that human.”
Two yellow jewels resting in the golem’s head as eyes lit up and a grumbled voice as though rocks were being ground within echoed out.
“Yeeee..ssss…Ma..sss..terrrr.”
The golem took a single step forward and the ground cracked beneath its feet. It came upon Shin and towered over him. Looking up at this 9-foot hulking boulder creature, Shin couldn’t help but gulp hard. At the same time though, his smile was still there.
(So what if this bitch is big. I could crush rocks with my bare hands before going through that cauldron. Now that I have, my strength has skyrocketed, I can feel it. This thing just looks intimidating. I’ll crush it in one go.)
The golem clasped its large barrel-sized hands together as though it were going to pray before slowly raising them both high above its head. Shin watched this and waited for his moment.
The golem said nothing before swinging its rock hands down like a sledgehammer.
Shin’s smile only grew wider seeing this.
“I knew it, this thing’s far too slow.”
Shin barely had to move. With a slight sidestep, he easily avoided the large hands coming down from above and even stood there as the hands swung past his face and toward the ground.
Asuna couldn’t help but comment.
“How could Senior dragon offer a treasure so easily to Shin like that. Look how slow that golem of his moves. There’s no way that thing will ever touch Shin. Senior should have offered me the challenge. I could use a free treasure or two.”
Kimi and Sam agreed with her but Kazuki was different. He could sense the complexities within the golem with his ki and he knew these tools, creatures, however, you wanted to call them were not so simple.
At the same time on the sideline, Glacious smiled cruelly at Shin.
(He’s overestimating himself far too much and underestimating my Golem. This kid is such a fool.)
All of these things happened in a split second and the golem’s hands made contact with the ground at this moment.
*BANG!*
A sound akin to thunder clapping rang out and the ground exploded forth. Shin who was at the epicenter felt the ground beneath him sink in an instant while at the same time hundreds of shards came flying at his body from the resulting damage.
Shin’s pupils dilated and his heartbeat madly as he found the situation had flipped on its head out of nowhere.
He had no foothold so he couldn’t kick properly and send out a wind blade to grab some distance. Instead, he threw his hands in front of him as fast as he could whilst also gathering his power. He had no time to think of a spell and simply went on instincts alone. With magic gathered in his hands, he slapped clapped as hard as he could.
A gush of wind countered the rocks flying at him and gave Shin a forceful push backward. Shin launched into the sky and avoided the shards of rock. At the same time, the resulting explosion affected Kazuki and the others as well. The ground fractured for hundreds of feet in all directions, causing everyone to have to retreat a good distance away.
As the dust settled, Asuna and the other’s jaws dropped as they saw a crater more than a hundred feet in diameter and nearly 20 feet deep. They quickly reassessed the golem and its capabilities. Asuna and Kimi both wondered if they could have had time to escape the golem’s destructive blow, while Sam wondered if he could take the damage square up.
Shin felt a bit of cold sweat drip down his face but he was still confident.
(Its power is definitely there but it’s still slow.)
Shin laughed.
*Hehe*
“Senior, this thing is strong I’ll give it that but if that’s all it has, it can do nothing to me.”
Glacious nodded.
“Right you are, but who said it was only strong? Now hurry up and fight, your wasting time with that running mouth of yours, or could it be your now frightened of my golem. If you wish to give up, I understand but you’ll lose out on the treasure.”
Shin’s smile widened.
(Fine, let me show you what I am capable of.)
A gust of wind gathered beneath Shin’s feet and he began to fly in the air. With his body now under control, he threw a kick forward and yelled.
“VIPER WHIP!”
A blade of wind nearly 10 feet long flew out from Shin and came slicing down directly on top of the golem.
*Schiii*
As the blade landed upon the golem’s body, a long scar was carved out from the golem cutting it deeply.
Shin grew more confident seeing this and figured e only needed a few more wind blades to finish it off.
(Viper Whip Viper Whip Viper Whip.)
Shin spun and kicked three more wind blades and each one crashed into the golem and carved it up deeper and deeper until finally.
*Bang*
One of its arms was loped off and it slammed into the ground.
“You see that shit Senior! Your little toy is just a big dumb slow piece of…”
The resulting words were lost to Shin as he and everyone else witnessed something amazing.
The severed rock arm began to fall apart and turn into rubble and smaller rocks. The very next moment each one of these rocks rolled by themselves to the foot of the golem and incredibly began defying gravity as they rolled upward. The rocks rolled up the golem’s leg, around its torso, up its back, and to its shoulder, where each rock began to fuse with the golem. Before everyone’s eyes, in only a few seconds, the arm that had just been severed was completed brand new and reattached.
Glacious chuckled at the look on everyone’s faces.
*Hah*
“Boy, did you think my golem couldn’t regrow a limb? That is mere child’s play. You didn’t even think about what this creature’s capabilities were and accepted the challenge without a second thought. Do you think you own the world? Do you think you are above it all? Open your eyes boy. Open them to the possibilities and maybe think ahead. Oh and one more thing…Always pay attention during a battle.”
As Glacious finished his sentence, Shin sensed something flying at him and kicked out another viper whip, and flew away.
*Schink*
A large boulder appeared in front of Shin and was sliced in half. The two halves split apart and flew past him on both sides.
Shin had lost focus for only a few seconds as Glacious had stolen his attention and that was all the time the golem needed to throw a nearby boulder at him.
The golem lifted another boulder above its head and tossed it at Shin again.
Shin didn’t use his viper whip and instead dodged it so as to not waste as much energy.
(As long as I stay up here, it can’t do much. I can see everything it tries to throw at me and dodge easily but how then do I attack. I can’t waste wind blades on something that continuously regenerates. Where is its weakness?)
Shin’s thinking began to change at that moment and a hint of seriousness started to creep in.
