Nunully continued to lead the way up the mountain. All the while, they continued to chat about magic and how they were progressing. Kazuki and Asuna knew minute details about one another’s practice because they were with one another nearly every day. Nunully on the other hand had been forced to train alone, which of course was lonely. Glacious had given her a special practice for herself and basically left her to it. Because of this, after a few minutes, Kazuki changed the topic to her.
Nunully gladly talked about the basics while Asuna’s brows furrowed, as the attention swung away from her.
Continuing up the mountain like this, the air grew colder and thinner as well. At this point, though there was little snow, the cold temperature would be enough to kill the average person were they to wander for a few hours in this place. Kazuki and Asuna had incredible bodies and could resist such cold with ease. Nunully was a water Mage but her affinities with the branch magic of ice were at a fairly high level. So the cold did little to her and actually felt soothing.
Nunully’s eyes lit up as she came around a corner.
“Ah, there it is!”
She grabbed Kazuki’s arm and began to drag him forward. Asuna would not let Nunully get ahead and quickly grabbed Kazuki’s other arm and refused to let go.
Kazuki shrugged his shoulders and went along with it. Coming around the corner, what lay before them was a beautiful sight.
Stretched out for hundreds of feet in every direction lied a field of violet-blue flowers and at the base of them were leaves colored a deep summer green. Beyond the field of flowers was a waterfall coming out from the side of the mountain, filling a deep natural pool. The water was so clear that a mirror would be jealous.
As a long cool breeze swept through, the flowers fluttered and swayed with the wind and a rich smell of spring filled the air.
Nunully was excited and checked the two’s expressions. Of course, Asuna was taken aback by the sight. Her mouth hung open and she was lost for words by such a beautiful scene. Nunully puffed up her chest seeing this.
(Looks like It’s my win for this one.)
She then looked at Kazuki. She was worried because not many guys liked flowers or really much of anything a girl fancied but to her delight he had a warm smile.
Nunully felt her heartbeat increase seeing this. She loved to see him smile.
“Ka…Kazuki, do you like this?”
Kazuki shook his head, causing Nunully’s heart to drop to her stomach. Kazuki quickly followed up with.
“I don’t like it I love it.”
Nunully who felt like she was on the verge of tears, had a turnaround on the spot and became relieved.
Kazuki wasn’t lying either. The flowers blowing in the cool refreshing wind with a waterfall, it all came off tranquil and calm. Kazuki didn’t show it but he had been feeling anxious as of late. After Glacious said they would be attempting the 4th stage, Kazuki had a few worries, failure was one of them. What would he do if he failed? Would he have to give up on revenge entirely? Would he have to hide out in this tiny world for the rest of his days so his sister didn’t find and kill him? These thoughts turned into anger and he felt dumb for doubting himself but doubt was only natural.
His mind was reeling and he didn’t know if he could actually calm his heart and relax his mind. Taking in the sight now though, Kazuki felt a small bit of pressure fall away and a small wave of relief washed over him.
Nunully laid out a plain blanket big enough for a few people and sat down. She then pat the spot beside her repeatedly.
“Kazuki, won’t you sit with me.”
Kazuki unconsciously followed her words and went to sit down beside her. As he was about to sit all the way down, Nunully for a moment contemplated whether or not she should keep her hand in that spot.
(If I don’t move my hand away, Kazuki will sit on my hand. His…His butt will then.)
Nunully was unsure of what to do. If she kept her hand there, maybe she could play it off when Kazuki sat on it. She could say it was an accident or just not even address it. All of these thoughts ran through her head at a million miles an hour. Just before Kazuki sat on it, Asuna squeezed between the two and she sat down heavily with a…
*Thump*
Nunully felt her hand being squished and pulled it back in pain while Asuna simply smiled.
“You don’t mind if I sit right here do you?”
Nunully grit her teeth.
“Actually I do mind. You also sat on my hand.”
Asuna played dumb.
“Hmm, did I. My bad, I couldn’t see such a tiny fragile thing.”
Nunully felt her power churning inside of her but she held back.
“Fragile, maybe in the past but I’ve been changing. What about you, you still snap every time Shin opens his mouth. Not very ladylike that behavior wouldn’t you say, Asssuna?”
Asuna’s eye began to twitch ever so slightly.
“What did you just say?”
Nunully shrugged.
“Hmm, you can’t hold your anger and you also don’t seem to be able to hear properly either, Kazuki are you sure you want to be with such a…person.”
Asuna could feel her own hand reaching toward the dagger at her waist. Kazuki grabbed her hand and stopped her. He looked at the two of them and his mood changed.
“I knew this wouldn’t work. This was a mistake.”
He then got up and started to walk away.
Asuna and Nunully both shared a look before they shot to their feet and at the same time shouted.
“WAIT!”
Kazuki paused his steps but didn’t turn around.
“Kazuki, we…I’m sorry.”
Asuna jumped in as well.
“Kazuki! Don’t leave! we won’t fight! look I’m storing my dagger. See see.”
*Haa*
Kazuki turned around to face them.
“Look, I don’t quite get why the two of you have an interest in me and I’ve told you both before, that when it comes to love, I myself don’t understand it. My feelings for people, after my adopted father abandoned me and my brother, and then my brother was murdered, I stopped feeling much of anything at all. I threw away most of my emotions and then I met granny master and my heart was reopened. When she sacrificed herself and perished, once again my feelings were sealed. I only wanted revenge after that. That was my only goal. Even now, nothing is above it.”
Asuna and Nunully felt for him. Neither one could really understand his pain though. Neither one had experienced such loss in their entire lives. Asuna still had all of her family still living back on Earth. Nunully on the other hand did have a father that was killed but he was killed before she was born and so she never truly felt the loss. Even still, they cared.
“I came to this world, my only intention to kill my sister and destroy my mother. I used those around me like pieces on a board and I felt no guilt. But then I started to get to know you all, Not just you two, Sam, Shin, Kimi, Mei, Tsura…Danny. Slowly but surely I began to feel once more. I’ll be honest, I am interested in you two, the both of you and if I’m being even more honest, Lamia too. At the same time, I can’t choose either of you and I don’t want to hurt the other by choosing one. The tension between you two is constant and it’s bothersome. I find it very unattractive but I guess it’s my fault for not making things clear. So I am forced to be blunt. I want you both. Maybe I’m just being greedy but at the same time, so the fuck what. Why can I not be greedy? Why can I not want more?”
Kazuki shook his head.
“For me who could die at any moment once I step out of this tiny world, I will listen a little more deeply to my emotions and I will be a bit more greedy. In the end, though, the decision lies with the two of you. I know that one shouldn’t put forth ultimatums but fuck it. Both of you or none of you, what do you two want?”
Nunully didn’t hesitate and ran forward. Grabbing Kazuki’s hand she pushed it into her chest.
“I choose…”
Nunully shook her head.
“No, I want you! If this is the only option to be with you, then I’ll take it.”
Nunully didn’t want to share, she really didn’t but at the same time, the feeling in her heart didn’t lie.
Asuna though was pissed watching this situation and she yelled.
“HELL NO!”
