The old ape stroked his beard in thought.
“Senior if you teach me I would forever be grateful. Not only that for a reward I cou
(“Not necessary.”)
Before Kazuki could finish, the old ape interrupted him.
“Senior?”
(“A reward is not necessary. You’re going to fight my son and by the sound of it, your two are on near equal terms. With a slight advantage, you could be the victor. If you kill him, that would be more than enough for me. Kill my boy for me, that is all the repayment I need.”)
“Senior, are you sure, just like that?”
(“Just like that, you think wanting my son dead is a simple matter. Even now I’m conflicted but at the same time, that bastard is a tyrant. He was so willing and so easily betrayed his own father and controls my apes like puppets. I love him with half a heart and loathe him with the rest. His death, he deserves it more than you know Kazuki.”)
A father wanting to kill his own son, let alone the thought but for one to actually speak those words out loud showed just how much contempt and conflict the old ape king had for his son.
“Are you sure you won’t go back on your words. When he and I clash, trying to walk away without one of us dying is basically an impossibility but if you asked for it, I would give it my all to finish it without killing. So I ask again, do you want me to take your son’s life away?”
The old ape rolled his eyes.
(“Ya young bastard, do ya think I would play so willy nilly. My son, no Groud, kill him. Do ya understand? Do we have a deal?”)
Kazuki gave a nod.
“I get you. I will do everything within my capabilities to end him.”
(“Good, good…….WAIT!”)
Kazuki sighed inwardly.
(So he really can’t go through with it.)
“So you really want me to try and defeat him without killing him?”
The wrinkles on the old ape’s face scrunched up as he looked at Kazuki as though he were an idiot.
(“No, ya fool. I want something else.”)
The old ape rattled the cuffs on his wrist.
(“After ya beat that dumb gorilla, I want ya to come back here and free me. Sitting around locked up in a cell for hundreds of years does horrors on ya ass. My knuckles itch to fight. This feeling of dissatisfaction and boredom burning a hole in my gut, I can’t stand it any longer. I need freedom, I need good alcohol and a hundred fights. So you promise to release me when ya beat my son to death.”)
Kazuki was left speechless for a moment. All of it was understandable though. For a creature that loves to fight and at the same time being unable to ever throw hands, that lingering itch in the depths of one soul, the feeling was almost unbearable.
“Fine, I’ll get you out of this place as well. Anything else?”
The old ape shook his head.
(“Nope, just those two things. With that settled, we must get to it quickly, you’ll need your before Groud makes his move.”)
“His move?”
(“Knowing my son, he’ll probably try the same thing on you as he did me. The fool poisoned me using my meals. I noticed it too late and fell into a deep slumber. That’s when the boy attacked me. Fortunately for me, my aura felt his devilish presence and I barely managed to keep my life. He’ll do the same to you, except he won’t use something quite as strong. He’ll most likely use something that will only weaken you a bit, that way it won’t be noticeable when the two of you fight.”)
“Wait a minute. I know he betrayed you but didn’t you say he was prideful. Do you really think he’d do that with an official challenge?”
(“Kazuki, are you naive or dumb. I told you how he betrayed me, why would he care for something like a challenge. Really he just wants to win and he’ll do so by playing you. He’s already tricked you down here, do you think he’ll be honorable when you two fight? You told me earlier that he captured you, only after one of his soldiers interfered and you lost focus for a split second. If my son was so honorable and took a challenge as sacred, would he have captured you at that moment? He did that because he knew he wasn’t 100% guaranteed to win against you if things continued as they did. He protected his image and reputation and nothing more.”)
Kazuki did feel a bit foolish thinking back on it. Groud had even gone back on his word about telling him the details about orichalcum.
(He lied once why wouldn’t he lie again. Groud spoke as if e had good intentions and said he believed everything was a misunderstanding yet he still insisted on fighting me a few days later.)
(“Kazuki, you told me that Groud was able to capture you only after a soldier hit you from behind. Afterward, my son killed that ape and called him a coward, placing the blame onto that ape. Let me tell you something you don’t know. The crown on Grouds head is quite special. It was made long long ago and has been passed down for nearly 10,000 years. Like the staffs and other weapons we have here, it can be used to control the elements of Gordonia and wind. That is not where it ends. It has a secret contained within that only those of the royal bloodline know of. Have you not wondered why I and Groud can communicate using our minds and none of the other apes can. Our minds are quite powerful, a special ability flows through our bloodline, the royal bloodline. With this innate ability along with the royal crown, it allows us to control the bodies of the other apes like puppets.”)
Kazuki’s mind began to spiral as he put the old ape’s words and Grouds actions together.
“So your saying Groud purposefully controlled the ape to interfere because he knew he couldn’t beat me fairly. Once I was distracted, he captured me and then immediately made a big show of it and killed the ape he controlled in a brutal way. Is this what you’re saying? If that’s true that using the crown, Groud can control the other apes why not just make that one stay silent.”
The old ape shook his head.
(“The control doesn’t last as long as you think. Its powers consist of using Gordonia, wind, and manipulating an ape’s body, it can’t change memories or permanently silence someone. Eventually, when his power to control the other ape wears off, do you think that ape would remain silent about being controlled. Especially with how seriously they take challenges. My son may not have honor but the other apes are virtuous beyond compare. That ape would have spilled everything about Groud’s crime. Even if Grouds king, with him doing that, he no longer has respect.”)
The old ape went quiet for a while before he added.
(“Of course this is all conjecture and can’t be proven seeing as I wasn’t there to personally witness it. I’m just going on what I know about my son and what I know about my apes. I know my apes have honor and would never interfere with an official challenge, especially it being a challenge against a king. My son, on the other hand, I know for a fact is a schemer who has used such underhanded methods in the past against his own father, me. The chances of him committed such a dirty act again or one of my apes interfering in a kingly challenge, the answer is clear to me.”)
“So him facing me later on, it was all because he wasn’t sure he could beat me. Going by that logic of yours, then he will most definitely try some method of weakening me. However, if it truly is poison, then there’s no need to worry. I can manage poisons.”
Kazuki said that and then thought about the Azirian blood hiding somewhere within his brain. He had dealt with many poisons in his life but only the Azirian blood within him gave him this much trouble. Kazuki was confident though. Besides the Azirian blood, he should be able to deal with any other poisons that Groud can come up with.
The old ape wanted to inquire about Kazuki’s confidence when it came to poisons but didn’t want to waste any more time. Three days was all the time he had to teach Kazuki how to use aura like a weapon.
(“Ok, If ya say ya have a way I believe ya. Let’s get started.”)
“Ok, so what’s first?”
The old ape nodded his head.
(“Right right right right right…um…right. It seems I’ve forgotten.”)
