Groud waved a hand and both his crown and eyes lit up. The orichalcum ground encircled both Oren and Kazuki in a cube and Groud along with his prisoners slowly ascended into the sky. As a torrent of air surrounded the three, Groud flew towards a large arena, behind him, Kazuki and Oren were forcefully pulled along the way.
Groud flew at a casual pace. He did this so that his people would anticipate his arrival. The closer he got to the arena, the more he could hear cheers echo throughout the sky. Closer and closer Groud came and with it, the cheering only grew and grew.
(“Do you hear them call for me? One of the perks of being king, my apes love me.”)
Kazuki and Oren both glared at Groud but neither made a sound.
Finally, the three arrived above the arena. With a wave of his hand, both Kazuki and Oren were thrown to the ground like trash and crashed with a heavy impact.
*Bang*
Right after Groud flew to the center of the arena and landed gracefully as though he were as light as a cloud.
The apes all roared and beat their chest continuously seeing their king. Altogether it seemed as if every Adrola ape was here to see the fight. Young and old alike, they were all here and with them, their combined roars reverberated in the ear.
Even though none of these cheers were for him, Kazuki couldn’t help but get hyped from this and he started to crave the upcoming battle. Even with his life on the line, Kazuki only felt excitement at the moment.
Groud waved his hand and the prison cube Oren was held in slid across the entire length of the arena and slammed into the side of the wall. Part of the cube fused into the wall where it stayed, trapping Oren, giving him the perfect spot to watch the fight unfold. After Oren was dealt with, Kazuki was next. The cube prison around his entire body unraveled from him as though it were made of string. The orichalcum string fell into the ground and fused with it. Kazuki was now once more free from bondage.
Rubbing his ankles and wrist, a few red marks were left behind. After a second or so passed, the marks and bruises faded entirely.
Kazuki eyed Ground up and down.
(I thought he’d wait until the last second to free me as a precaution at least but it seems he’s fully confident. With the city sealed off and being surrounded by thousands of apes, he knows I won’t try and run as there’s no point. Still, to show me his back like that, what a fucking cocky bastard, you will regret challenging me.)
Groud raised a single hand in the air before clasping it shut. With that, every ape in the arena went dead silent.
The world became so quiet you could hear the rhythmic breathing of every ape in the stands. Groud lowered his hand and addressed his followers.
(“Today, is the day of reckoning. An outsider, a foreigner of great strength has entered our lands…my lands without permission and has even dared to challenge me. As some of you saw, I had an opportunity to finish this intruder the day he came here but I chose not to in order to have a fair fight. Because I am an Adrola ape and we Adrola apes have pride and honor. An honor that can not be washed away or trampled. An honor that brings about…
As Groud went on and on, Kazuki couldn’t help but roll his eyes hearing about honor this and honor that and simply wished to hurry up and get started. After a few moments of zoning out, Kazuki was broken from his thoughts as the apes went wild with roars once more.
Looking over Groud was pointing at Kazuki.
(“Kazuki! Today we shall fight fairly until one of us either become incapacitated or surrenders and admits defeat, agreed!”)
Groud glared at Kazuki indicating him not to say anything out of order before waving his hand and removing the metal mask off of Kazuki’s mouth so he could answer.
Kazuki knew that Groud’s words were nothing but shit now and that he fully intended on killing Kazuki but Kazuki knew how to handle this and played his part.
“I accept!”
Ground released an evil grin before swiftly changing his expression back to normal. With a nod, Groud waved a soldier over.
The soldier walked over with an ugly degraded rag and tossed it at Kazuki’s feet. Groud looked at it and smiled.
(“We can’t have a grand battle with you walking around dangling in the wind. Wear it!”)
Kazuki was still naked up to this point but looking at the raggedy piece of cloth that smelled of filth and shit, he’d much rather fight naked. He knew Groud was doing this to humiliate him but there was not much he could do at the moment. Throwing it on, it barely covered his junk and he ended up looking like a caveman. A chorus of laughter fell from the high up crowd as they witnessed this. Kazuki stuffed this humiliation down and grit his teeth.
(Keep laughing you fucking fools.)
Next, the soldier held out two weapons. One was a staff made of orichalcum and the other was a whip made from the same material. With a glance, Kazuki could tell neither had inscriptions and therefore could not be used with magic. Kazuki was to use one or the other and neither had any magic capabilities. Not only that but he got no armor as well. On the other side, Groud was covered in armor. He had a large chest plate that covered his torso. On both his arms and legs there were bracers and atop his head, he had his magical crown. In his hand, he held a large staff that was just as tall as he, and at his side was a flexible orichalcum whip, all of these items were magical weapons.
Looking over at the crowd, Kazuki could see that none of them seem to care about the difference between the two.
(I thought these apes cared about honor. They can’t see how unfair this fight it or maybe they’re just ignoring it. After all, honor is honor until it’s your team against the other team. To all of them, I’m simply the other team.)
The soldier in front of Kazuki grunted at him in annoyance as he wanted Kazuki to hurry up and choose. With a snort, Kazuki knocked the whip out of the soldier’s hand and snatched the staff instead. Anger flared up in the ape’s eyes but he knew what happened to the last ape that interfered with Groud’s fight. Instead, he beat his chest furiously and roared in Kazuki’s face.
*Thoom thoom ROOAAARRRRRRRRRR!*
Flecks of spit hit Kazuki in the face but he didn’t flinch whatsoever, embarrassing the soldier even more. The ape couldn’t let this humiliation pass and started to roar once more, this time even louder than before but Kazuki didn’t stay still this time. Instead of waiting for the ape to finish, Kazuki hacked up a large loogie and spit the mucusy phlegm directly into the ape’s open mouth and the roaring ape accidentally swallowed it.
The ape immediately stopped roaring at Kazuki and the entire arena went quiet. Even Groud was quite surprised seeing Kazuki do this. From their short interaction a few days ago, he found Kazuki to be quite respectable but this action of his was the complete opposite. The bestial instincts of the soldier took over at this moment and he no longer cared about his king and attacked Kazuki right then and there.
The large soldier was near 16 feet in height and was thick with muscle. He swung down at Kazuki as if to crush him into meat paste. How would Kazuki allow such a slow hit to land upon him though? With this obvious and weak attack coming right at him, Kazuki decided to release a bit of his pent up humiliation upon this dumb Adrola ape.
With a swift movement, Kazuki flicked his wrist and sent the staff soaring up into the air. At the same time, he sidestepped the ape’s blow and took a small leap.
Kazuki didn’t try to move very quickly but to all of the apes besides Oren and Groud, Kazuki’s body flashed forward at an unprecedented speed. A speed in which they were incapable of following. This small weak leap from Kazuki brought him face level with the soldier.
Kazuki barely swung the back of his fist.
*CRACK SNAP CRACK*
Before the ape knew what happened, Kazuki’s back fist had swung and broke through the ape’s bone spike protruding from his shoulder. It didn’t stop there though and continued. It also slammed directly into the ape’s lower jaw and shattered it into pieces. Continuing a bit more, Kazuki broke the bone spike protruding from the ape’s other shoulder. Kazuki had broken both bone spikes and shattered the ape’s jaw all in one fluid motion.
Kazuki still wasn’t finished and before the ape even knew what had just happened, the staff fell down into Kazuki’s hands.
“DIE!”
Swinging the staff down with brute force, the staff first crushed the soldier’s head like fruit before continuing down through the middle until the ape was split entirely in two.
Kazuki landed softly on the ground before stamping the staff hard on the ground. With that stamp, the two halves of the ape’s body fell to the ground, painting the surrounding area in thick viscous blood.
All of the apes…every single one of them, again became quiet as they stared at this scene in shock.
Kazuki ignored the stunned silence and looked at Groud.
“Shall we begin?”
