The entire arena was filled with silence. A few hundred apes already knew of Kazuki’s immense strength and power and were not surprised by such a display. This arena however held thousands and the majority of them had not seen Kazuki’s strength a few days ago. To them, Kazuki was merely an outsider and seeing as how their king personally caught him with what they thought was relative ease, you could understand their confusion at the scene they just witnessed.
Kazuki stood there, ignoring the crowd’s bewildered gaze, and wondered how he divided the ape in half. He thought the soldier was wearing orichalcum armor. By his strength alone, he shouldn’t have been able to tear through that type of material even with the staff that was also made from orichalcum. Looking at the armor on the ground, he found the reason why.
(The soldier’s chest plate was merely made from normal metal. It simply looked like orichalcum. So some of them have real orichalcum armor and some don’t. Could it be a rank thing? This soldier wasn’t particularly strong, maybe you have to have a certain position to possess orichalcum armor.)
Kazuki didn’t care too much, he just found it a little odd. On the other side, Groud’s eyes scanned over his apes before coming round to Kazuki and lastly his fallen soldier. Groud had to resist smiling seeing his dead soldier. He directed his voice to Kazuki and Kazuki alone.
(“Thank you for that display of strength. If my people simply thought you were a paper tiger, they might have thought this entire fight was a simple flex on my part. Knowing you have real combat prowess will show them just how strong a King I truly am. Soon the poison will drain you of your energy and I shall slay you the enemy in a grand fashion. It is time.”)
Kazuki inhaled deeply and with it caught the smell of the fallen soldiers still spilling blood. A sort of excitement began to rise up from within and a small voice whispered in his mind.
(de…vour.)
Kazuki suppressed that feeling within and pretended as though he had used up a fair amount of energy just now.
“I don’t want to fight such a coward as you but don’t think I’ll be easy.”
Kazuki held the staff in front of him and his arms shook ever so slightly. Most wouldn’t notice such an action but Groud saw it right away.
Kazuki then controlled his body and made his face slightly pale, and forced sweat from his brow. Groud saw all of this and his confidence grew.
Groud spread his voice outward so all could hear his thoughts and put on his own act.
(“I was going to release you after you lose to me but now my honor as King is on the line. After what you’ve done, you shall pay for my ape’s life with your own. Any last words foul creature!?”)
His words rang out like thunder and shook every ape to the core. in response, they all began to beat their chest like drums and roar in excitement as their king readied his weapon.
Kazuki said nothing but maintained a look of fear.
As the crowd became louder and louder, the arena seemed to shake from their actions. When they were at the height of their hype, Gropud roared and charged forward.
*ROAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!*
His eyes and crown lit up causing the wind to gather beneath his feet. His body that was already accelerating forward faster than any of the apes could see, had in an instant sped up even faster.
His staff thrusting forward, trying to crack open Kazuki’s skull in a single move.
Kazuki didn’t back down from this blow and instead stepped forward and drove his own staff forward to meet Groud’s.
*BOOM!*
Both staffs met head-on and a small explosion rang out as the air around the two was torn asunder.
As the air rushed past the two and came upon the apes in the stands, several thousand inscriptions lit up along the inner wall and shielded the apes from the blowback.
The two figures seemingly froze for a brief flash before a slight edge was produced between the two and Kazuki was pushed back.
He had been the loser of this first exchange and every ape seeing this exploded in cheer for their mighty king.
Kazuki flew backward from this blow and kicked off the ground as soon as his toes touched the floor beneath him, returning to meet Groud as quickly as he was forced backward.
Kazuki thrust the staff at Groud and Groud again hit Kazuki’s staff head-on and knocked Kazuki backward.
Touching the ground once more, Kazuki began to spread out his aura. Groud felt it immediately and stamped his staff on the ground increasing the gravity upon Kazuki by more than a hundredfold.
(“Already releasing your aura. I’ll admit it’s heavy but compared to my gravity, I come out the clear winner. Come Kazuki, I know you can do better than this.”)
Racing forward, Kazuki’s body blurred as he circulated his ki through his legs.
(“Yes just like the first battle! Your speed is better then mine but I’ll just use the same thing as last time.”)
Waving his large hand, the entire arena floor started to rotate as Groud tried to steal Kazuki’s balance.
In return, Kazuki threw his staff at Groud. Kicking off the ground, his body accelerated and flashed forward and he leaped on top of his still flying staff. Soaring toward Groud, groud quickly flew into the sky to avoid Kazuki. He wanted to give the poison a little longer before he went for the finish. With Kazuki rushing at him like this, he figured Kazuki was desperate to end things before that happened.
Kazuki stomped on one end of the staff and it collided hard with the ground. This caused the staff to bounce slightly and stand upright. Jumping off the top of the staff, Kazuki ascended upward and gave chase.
Groud saw this and smiled.
(“Fool, you can’t dodge me whilst in the air!”)
Raising his hand up, hundreds of spears of orichalcum separated from the ground and flew upward from beneath Kazuki. Each one was surrounded by a torrent of wind, causing the metal spear to ascend with blurred speed.
Kazuki didn’t even try to dodge these, instead, he put his body to the test. As they flew up to him, he covered them in his aura, focusing on the first few, they got the most of his aura and their weight increased.
*Bang Clank Bang Bam!*
Kazuki slapped several of them out of the sky as though they were dull arrows. To counter this, Groud mixed up their individual weights, some he reduced and some he lightened, in doing so he changed their speed and made them fly upward more randomly.
This made things more difficult but at the same time, Kazuki knew their target was him and therefore could find their paths as they would all end up coming at him.
Punching, backhanding, kicking, Kazuki bashed these away. At the same time, their material was far too dense and Kazuki broke bone after bone as he battered these spears and knocked them away.
Kazuki wasn’t the only one who suffered from this, A few of them he hit accurately, causing them to fly at Groud. With their added speed, Groud had to stop them, thus dividing some of his attention and focus away from piercing holes through Kazuki.
This whole exchange had only lasted for not even a second and only now did Kazuki start falling back toward the ground.
As Kazuki hit the ground, the momentum caused him to fall.
There were no boulders like last time for Kazuki to kick away from and find steady ground, Groud had learned.
Instead, with Kazuki unbalanced, Groud turned all of the spears around and launched them at the ground. With wair flowing around them and a change to their gravity, these spears became even deadlier as they shot toward the ground like lightning.
Kazuki had no time to get to his feet and rolled across the ground like a tumbling log in a rushing river.
*Bang Bang Boom Bang!*
Kazuki was surprised to see each of these spears were capable of piercing the ground. Due to their shape and the added power of the wind and gravity, these several hundred spears tore into the ground making it similar to swiss cheese.
Kazuki rolled a little further away and changed the flow of his aura. He focused it entirely on his body increasing his weight. Added with the gravity Groud placed on him, it was just enough to overcome the spin of the floor and he managed to stand up. Then he shifted his weight and started to run the opposite turn of the floor as though it were a treadmill.
With all of the holes, as well as several spear bottoms, sticking out from the ground, Kazuki had found a path to run on.
Groud was not having this though and just as quickly as the holes had appeared, Groud fused the spears with the ground and sunk them into the floor, fixing the floor in an instant.
(“You think I’ll allow the same thing from last time. More Kazuki, I know there’s more, give me even more of a show!”)
