Volume 5 Chapter 107

I successfully passed the preliminary round of the War God’s Strength tournament.

And of course, Merdie and Ryushin did too.

All ten of the Beast King soldiers who had been escorting us to make sure we didn’t get involved with weirdos, destroyed the target and advanced to the main tournament.

The Beastman king, who was the last one to participate, blew away the target with ease, nothing surprising about that really.

Aside from them, only the black panther beastman was able to destroy the target.

And the rest will advance to the main tournament depending on how much damage they were able to deal to the target.

And so, fifty contestants, including us, were selected for the main tournament.

The next day

The main tournament of the War God’s Strength Tournament was about to begin.

The main tournament is a one-on-one tournament. The one who’ll win this tournament will become the king of Vestier, the kingdom of the Beastmen.

I wondered what would happen if someone other than a beastman, such as myself, won the tournament, so I asked the beast king soldier.

He said that if I won, I could become the king. However, he also said that I can give up the throne and appoint a beastman or other person who placed high in the tournament as king.

Winning is all that matters, the whole country shared that opinion, and they were willing to follow the winner. Also, the winner of the strength tournament can do whatever he or she wishes, as long as it’s within the kingdom’s capacity to do it.

If that’s the case, then let’s go all out and not go easy on them!

The ones who destroyed the target would become the seed, so we would be coming out during the second round. We’ll get to see who we’re fighting in the first round, so now that I think about it, it’s actually quite advantageous.

The winner of the two would be my opponent.

I don’t like the idea of hitting a woman. If possible, I was hoping that the bear beastman would be my opponent.

The War God’s Strength Tournament began.

First, the Beastman king stepped up to the arena.

He said, 「Many people have been injured because of how worthless I was. I am truly sorry. Fortunately, a sage from another country saved me and many other soldiers, but there are many who have passed away. I swear in their name that when I become king again, I will make this country strong, a country where it won’t lose against the likes of the Majin!」

The tens of thousands of beastmen that filled the amphitheater cheered at the king’s powerful declaration.

「I hereby declare the start of the War God’s Strength Tournament!」

The cheers from the audience grew even louder.

The beastman king – no, he was just a lion beastman now, Merdie’s father. Merdie’s father’s name is Leo. It was similar to my elder brother’s name.

When Merdie’s father, Leo, came down from the arena, one of the ministers climbed up to the arena instead.

「As usual, no weapons are allowed. As in previous years, the use of weapons will be permitted. Also, according to the rules set by the War God, the use of magic other than body strengthening magic…」

「Is permitted」

Suddenly, a voice echoed in my head.

It was a voice I had heard before.

All the beastmen in the arena seemed to have heard the voice as well. The minister on top of the arena was upset, not knowing what it meant.

A wind swirled near the minister.

When the wind disappeared, there stood a lion beastman that was even larger than Leo.

He was one of the Gods of this world – The War God.

「War God-sama!」

The minister fell to his knees in panic.This is the first time that the War God has appeared in this world since he attained divinity.

However, the aura of divinity that he emitted made everyone present understand that he was a god.

「Use all the power that you have and become a strong person. Use that strength to protect your friends – I said those things before to my fellow beastmen.」

The War God’s powerful words echoed through the hall.

「However, perhaps because there were so few beastmen who could use magic, before long the rule became that beastmen were not allowed to use magic. However, I have never said that magic is forbidden. Those who can use magic to fight should use it. Because magic is part of the power of the beastman race」

Hearing these words, Merdie burst into tears.

She must have thought that her power had been recognized.

「So, in the name of the God of War, I hereby lift the ban on the use of magic in the War God’s tournament. I expect you to use all the power in your body and show me your best fight」

With those words, the War God disappeared. The hall was filled with silence. The beastmen in the hall turned their attention to the minister on the fighting platform.

The minister looked at Leo.

Leo nodded in response.

「The use of weapons is permitted. As is the use of magic according to the rules set forth by the War God」

The use of magic was allowed.

The War God’s promise that he would arrange for magic to be used in the tournament had now been fulfilled.

After that, the hall became noisy. It was only natural, since the War God had manifested and changed the rules of the War Gods’ tournament, which had been protected for so many years.

And then, all the people present in the hall also started to question each other, ‘Is there anyone here who can defeat the Unbeatable Target down if it had magic on it?’ and so on.

The rules were changed only for this game.

This was because there was a possibility of dissatisfaction if the rules were changed only for the main tournament. As a result, no one came forward.

A beastman that can fight while activating magic at high speed is rare, and a beastman that can do that in the first place would have a powerful magical robe, so he would probably have made it through the preliminary round.

Incidentally, Luke was about to raise his hand, but decided against it. He seemed to remember that he had been beaten to a pulp in a one-on-one combat training session with Merdi. Before he could activate his magic, Merdie had approached him and just kept beating him, unable to do anything.

There were no additional participants, so the main match was to begin.

The first round, the first match, was a battle between a bear beastman and a cat beastman to determine my opponent.

By the way, Ryuushin, Merdie, and former beastman king Leo were scattered among the four big blocks on the tournament board.
The ones who got the best results during the preliminary round – in other words, the four people who had the highest target destruction ratio would not fight until the semi-finals.

If we managed to properly win, I would fight against Ryuushin, and Merdie would be against Leo.

Well, if we manage to win, that is.

I should win the first match first!

But I didn’t like the idea of hitting a woman, so I really hoped the bear beastman would win.

While I was thinking about these stuff, the cat beastman won.

She was strong.

She was overwhelming.

She easily evaded the bear beastman’s ferocious attacks, and delivered a strong punch to the bear beastman’s exposed side.

The bear beastman could no longer stand up after that single attack.

Oh no, I was thinking of things like avoiding hitting her directly, but now that I think about it, she might be strong enough to make me shut up actually.
