【Sam’s POV】

A demon loves only himself, and lives only to satiate its own desires. Should you ever encounter a demon, then run and pray that it never finds you.

I ended up borrowing the book ‘Demon Psychology’ by ‘Charles Xavier’ from Cecile, and was currently reading it in the room prepared for me by the head-maid of Cecile’s mansion, Maria.

The book delves into the basic drives of demons, and attempts to unravel them in a way that the general masses can understand.

Needless to say, the book fails horribly at that, not that it ever tried. I’m willing to bet that the author finished this book in a single night. The message of the book is crystal clear; demons are bad and must be eliminated.

If we could somehow track Charles’ transactions prior to the writing of this book, I’m sure we would find some donations from the Church or the royalty.

I closed the book with a snap and put it back on the table, beside my mask.

“I’m guessing you did not like the book.”

Before I could get up from my chair, two arms came from behind my neck and embraced me, and then I heard a soft whisper near my ear.

“Should I entertain you tonight?”

Two soft ‘somethings’ pressed on my back. I didn’t even need to look back to know the identity of the perpetrator.

“You’re not a nymphomaniac, are you?”

“Only for you.”

Damn.

“You should probably get some sleep now; it’s already late.”

The time should be around 3 in the night.

“Eeeeeh!” She cried as her embrace grew firmer, and she rubbed her cheek against mine. “But I want to spend some time with you; you’ve been really busy during the last few days.”

What are we, a newly-wed couple?

“And what do you suppose we should do? Aside from doing naughty things, of course.”

I added before she could open her mouth, and I’m pretty sure that the click of her tongue wasn’t just my imagination.

“Should we play a game?”

“What kind of game?”

Make it normal please.

“How about chess?”

“I’m fine with that.”

“But a normal game of chess would be boring, don’t you think so?”

“No.”

Normal is best.

“So, let’s make a small bet; the winner can ask the loser to do something for him.”

“But it cannot be sexual in any way.”

“Of course.”

“Then let’s start.”

Phiria freed me and went to the bead, where she created a wooden chess board using magic. I followed her and sat opposite her, in front of me the white pieces of chess.

“Since I’m white, I’ll start.”

“Yeah.” Her eyes sparkled. “Mark my words; I will win today.”

“Well, all the best.”

I started by moving my pawn to g3, and she responded by moving her pawn to a5.

15 minutes later, only 7 pieces remained on the board; 4 of them white while the rest black. I moved my bishop to d5.

“Check, and mate.”

“Guaaahhh!” She groaned in an exaggerated way and held her head, then fell backwards on the pillow. “And I was this close!”

“Well, better luck next time, I guess.”

She’s right though. I won this game by a narrow margin. Not only did she see through all my strategies, she also saw through my feints and baits, and countered them masterfully. Today was the closest I ever got to defeat in chess.

“Now, I’d like to exercise my right to make you do something.”

“Fine.” She sighed. “You’re going to ask me to get out anyway.”

Am I that easy to see through? Or that’s what I would have thought under normal circumstances, but today’s a bit different.

I sat in a ‘seiza’ position at the edge of the bed, facing towards the bed, and patted my lap. A look of ‘what is this guy doing’ appeared on Phiria’s face, and then her eyes widened, as if she finally understood what I was up to.

With a beaming smile, she put her head on my thighs and closed her eyes. I gently ruffled her hairs a bit, then started stroking her head.

“It is a King’s duty to occasionally reward his subordinates for a work done well.”

“You’re goddamnit right.”

Phiria muttered in a harsh tone as if she was angry, but the smile on her face and the squint in her eyes told me differently.

“But it’s also a subordinate’s duty to.” I grabbed the rabbit ears which had been invisible till now. “Please their King.”

“Ah Sam!” She squealed, but I had already begun my onslaught. “N-not there…..”

Her cheeks flushed as she muttered in a small voice.

“Oh, so this is your weak point?”

I attacked that place with even more vigour and Phiria squirmed in pleasure and embarrassment, which made me want to tease her even more.

“Whew, last night was pretty wild, wasn’t it?”

“Hmph!”

Phiria grunted and looked away. It was already morning, and after our night ‘session’, she had fallen asleep on my lap.

“But didn’t you enjoy it?”

“Hmph!”

She grunted again and then looked in the opposite direction.

“I see.” I slumped my back. “If you don’t like it, then I guess I’ll stop touching you in any way.”

“W-waahh, I didn’t mean it that way!”

She waved her hands in a frenzy.

“You didn’t? But just now it seemed that you didn’t like it.”

“T-that’s……”

Her voice got faint, and she looked down.

“That’s?”

“Y-you meanie!”

She looked up with a jerk, wrongfully accused me, and stormed off from the room.

Damn, teasing her is something I’ll never be bored of.

⟦Trash.⟧

⟦Scum.⟧

I can hear some flies buzzing near my ears. Hmm, must be my imagination.

With that, I left my room and headed towards the training area behind the mansion, where Cecile was already waiting for me.

“Ah, you’re here.” She abandoned her overseeing duties and strode towards me. “Did you sleep well last night?”

“I actually didn’t sleep at all.”

“Really?” Her eyes widened. “What were you doing all night?”

“Reading the book that you lent me.”

“Ah, I see.” She replied. “Your thoughts on it?”

“It was utter trash.”

Using a scale from 0-10, where 10 is the trashiest, I would give that book a solid 9.

“I thought so too.”

What?

“Then you should have told that to me before lending it to me.”

“Well, I could.” She admitted more easily than I thought. “But I was interested in how you would rate it.”

Then couldn’t she have given me a summary of the book? My opinion of the book would have remained the same, so that would have saved me 3 hours.

“Come now.” She started walking towards the Heroes. “We have a lot to do today.”

I quietly followed behind her. With a clap, she gathered the Heroes around her- have they been conditioned? They had apparently already greeted Cecile, so it was now my turn.

“Good morning everyone. As you guys already know, I’m Samael.”

I started off with an introduction. Half of them weren’t interested in what I was saying and were chatting with each other, while the other half seemed curious to know what I was doing here.

“I’ll cut to the chase; from today onwards I’m going to be your teacher.”

Although I prefer the term ‘sensei’, I would get into a lot of trouble if I asked them to call me that.

“Eh? Really?!”

Michael asked, taken aback.

“Due to some unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances, yes. From today onwards, you’ll see hell everyday so that each of you can become strong enough to be in Level 1. As for you, Michael.” I turned to him. “Since you are their leader, you’ll have to reach Level 0; strong enough to have a head-on battle against Solomon.”

Of course, that would be impossible. Solomon, as Phiria said, is strong enough to contend against the lower ranking Gods. Moreover, he’s the leader of the Ten Asuras, so these kids would have to train for thousands of years to get on Solomon’s level.

But they don’t know that, and neither do they need to. And more importantly, becoming stronger holds no demerit for them. They’ll become useful to me and everyone around them, and they’ll be able to protect what they want to by their own hands.

“Umm, Samael.” Michael called out to me, but his eyes were wavering. “Is it really necessary for me to be the leader? I mean, some other guy could do it as well, right?”

Oh?

“Care to provide me with some names?”

“Like Sherry, Arthu-, no, I mean, you.”

“Sherry is a healer, right? She’s not suited to fight on the frontlines.”

“Then what about you-”

“I can see why you would think that, but there’s a clear difference between you and me. I’m a resident of this world, while you are the Hero chosen by the God. Sure, I’m more powerful than you right now, but what about tomorrow? The day after it? What about after a year? Do you know what makes you a Hero?”

“Power………… I guess?”

“Wrong. Being a Hero means having an exceptional growth rate. Like, it’s not even funny. You guys have so much potential, and you can grow at such a phenomenal rate that within a year, you would surpass every human of this world.”

“Is………… that so?”

“Well, if you are not convinced even now, then let’s ask your class, shall we?” I turned to his classmates. “Those of you who think that Michael is fit to be your leader, please raise your hand.”

Almost all of the students immediately raised their hand, but there was something peculiar about them. But before that, let’s address the current issue: the three guys who haven’t raised their hands.

“You three who haven’t raised your hands, please come forward.”

The crowd in front of those three guys parted by itself and they stepped forward. With their heads raised high and chests puffed out, they were clearly looking down on me.

Wait, that guy……………

I took a peek at Sherry’s expression, but she didn’t make any visible reaction against him. Seems like that guy is still under the effects of my therapy.

“So, Thor, Arya and Blake. You three guys don’t think that Michael should lead you. Exactly why do you think that?”

Thor, who seemed to be the leader of this three-man group, stepped forward.

“With all due respect, Samael, Michael is too cowardly to lead us.”

“Yeah yeah.” Arya supported him. “He’s incompetent, and not really strong enough.”

“Incompetent? Why would you say that?”

“Because he allowed Arthur and Susan to die!”

Nani?
