【Sam’s POV】

“Since when was she here?”

Reishu asked when she left.

“I’m not sure. But I was able to sense her presence the moment I entered this room. Maybe she was listening to everything that was being discussed here? Did you talk about anything important?”

“No. We were waiting for you.”

Well, that’s good, I guess.

“I see. Anyway, Since Leticia had declared war on us, we have no other choice but to comply.”

“Seems like it.”

He made a show of sighing.

I am more than sure that you are the one who’s the happiest with this outcome, Reishu.

“Chloe, send a message to Liera and tell her about everything that has happened in this room. And ask her to send the army here, along with Reygus and Olivia. The time has come to save the species.”

“Understood.”

“Jack, come meet me in my room later.”

He simply nodded.

“And King Reishu, we should probably wait for Liera and the others to arrive. When everyone is gathered here, we’ll hold a meeting to discuss how to win this war.”

“Got it. Till then, I’ll command the army to make preparations for war, and will also inform the citizens.”

“Yeah, I’ll be counting on you.”

“What about us?”

Cornellia interjected.

“You go and rest for now.”

“And what about you?”

Me?

“I’ll also go and rest, duh. I just arrived from the dungeon, ya know.”

Well, simply lying on the bed also counts as rest, right?

“You better rest, okay? Don’t run off to the library or something.”

Shiggurath warned me.

“…….. I’ll try my best.”

“Sam, I’ve informed Liera.”

Chloe informed me.

“Good. You also go and rest for now. I’m sure you are tired after everything that has happened till now.”

She weakly nodded. It seemed that she had something else to say, but even after waiting, she didn’t say anything.

“Well then. I guess I’ll see you guys tomorrow.”

I left the conference room and went back to my room. These past two days have been exhausting, especially that meeting with Balgaar. I never would have expected to meet him there.

Just what the fuck are Phiria and Jack doing? Handling him was their responsibility. There’s a serious need to remind them of their responsibilities.

Not to mention that I had to use the last remains of Tzeeneth flowing in my blood, and one of the two abilities of my title. I’ll have no other choice than to use the alpha protocols while fighting Regina next week.

My entire body is hurting over due to the use of Tzeeneth, but I can’t even sleep god damnit. Actually, just how long has it been since I last slept? Probably a really long time.

I took off my arms and plopped on the bed to give rest to my creaking body. Seriously, my body will give away if I continue like this………

I kept lying on the bed while thinking about various things, when someone knocked on the door.

I got up and opened it to find Jack standing there.

“Come in.”

He walked inside and sat on the sofa, while I lied on the bed again.

“So, how did things go on your end?”

Let’s determine how the plan went.

“Perfect.”

“Oh yeah? Then why the fuck was Balgaar there?”

That’s the biggest question.

“So that roar really belonged to Balgaar, huh………. Good grief. Did you kill him?”

He shook his head and sighed.

“The very fact that I am lying here and talking to you implies just that, no?”

“That’s also true. With this, the Six Lords have been subdued. We just need one more ingredient to move to the next stage.”

Calling them as ingredients, he is more merciless than me.

“Yepp. But for that, we’ll have to win this game.”

“That can be easily done. Unless an individual who can disrupt the current power balance appears and joins Regina’s side.”

“Oi oi, don’t just raise flags like that.”

This guy is just casually raising flags like this. If I ever die, I’ll make sure that my ghost haunts him.

If I can die, that is.

⟦You can.⟧

⟦Thank you for that unnecessary addition to my thoughts.⟧

I brushed him off.

“Yeah whatever.”

“Anyway, keeping this matter aside. You left Chloe alone again, didn’t you? Even after I had specifically instructed you to keep her safe just in case she got separated from Shiggurath.”

“The thing is, Chloe also fell down when the ground collapsed. And even though I used my presence detection magic to its fullest, I couldn’t find her anywhere in the dungeon.”

What?

“You couldn’t sense her inside the dungeon?”

How is that possible?

“Exactly. I could find her only after a day had passed. And she seemed…….. different.”

“In what way?”

“Her eyes were coloured by despair.”

What?!

Despair? Why? Just what happened down there that caused her to once again fall in despair?

Doesn’t this mean that I have failed once again? Just how many failures am I going to face before I succeed?

“Jack, is it possible to use that method again and send her back to Earth?”

“If you want to destroy her and turn her into a vegetable, provided that she survives the procedure, then sure, go ahead.”

“Fuck!”

What do I do then? She is the only person I don’t want to be involved!

“However, Samuel, since when did you start to care so much about others?”

He asked in a voice slightly colder than normal.

“She is the only one I don’t want to be involved in my mess. She is my responsibility. It’s only natural that I’ll worry about her.”

“Do you really think you’re qualified to say such things? Your throne before which we kneel was born of countless sacrifices. Look beneath you: can you see the mountain of corpses there? What would it matter if one more was added to it?”

“Your words would make sense if sacrificing Chloe was beneficial to us. Is it?”

“Well, not yet.”

“Then shut up. I know what I am doing. If you think I’ve gone soft then you are free to leave: I won’t stop you. Your absence would be nothing more than an inconvenience.”

“Pretty big words for you, aren’t they? You think you can win without me?”

He jeered.

“You think I cannot?”

He sneered.

“Only time will tell that.”

Hmph. This bastard is clearly trying to imply that he would betray me if he considers it necessary.

But both of us know he will never do that.

“Anyway, I’ll think about what to do with Chloe. You can go back now.”

“Roger. Why don’t you try sleeping till then?”

“A tempting proposition, but no thanks.”

“I see.”

He muttered and left the room.

Good grief, these days have been especially tiring.

I picked up a book from the bookshelf and started reading. I was later called for dinner, but the atmosphere there was tense due to declaration of war earlier.

After dinner, I came back and started reading once again and lost track of time.

It was around 2 in the night. I was completely engrossed in reading the book. The book was on Psychology of Demons, written by a human.

In that book, the writer had detailed how demons look down on us humans as mere fodder and all that.

Unexpectedly, someone knocked on the door. No, it was more of banging on the door.

I opened it to find Cornellia there. She was panting heavily, and her face was distraught with what seemed to be fear and confusion.

“What happened?

Regina had given us an ultimatum for next week. Don’t tell me they invaded us now?

“Simone!”

Hmmm?

“Simone has been killed!”

Huh?
