【Sam’s POV】

“I, Solomon El Maxwell, the leader of the Ten Asuras, wholeheartedly welcome you back, my liege, and hereby return to my duties as the weapon that strikes down your enemies.”

Ah, yeah. Now that I think about it, he did have that sort of personality.

“I’m back, Solomon. Or should I say, it’s been very long? Anyway, raise your head. Like I always say, there’s no need to be so polite with me.”

“Yes, my lord.”

He stood up with that.

“It’s been very long, Lady Phiria.”

And then he greeted Phiria with a simple nod.

“So it seems.”

However, there was one person that was completely out of the loop to what was happening.

“Eh? Eh? Eeeeeeeeeeeeeh? You know him, Samuel?!”

Regina, unable to understand what the fuck was happening here, retorted in disbelief. Solomon’s brows furrowed in annoyance and he once again disappeared from his place.

“How impertinent.”

So, came the words from the place where Regina was, but she was not the one who had uttered them. The one who did that was Solomon. His hand had gripped Regina’s face and raised her into the air. Bewilderment covered her face as she most probably didn’t expect to be attacked right off the bat.

“How dare you disrespect your own Lord by questioning him? His words are absolute; if he says that white is black, then white is black. Questioning him is akin to treason. It seems you are in severe need of being disciplined. Very well-”

“Whoa stop there for a minute!”

Was he so loyal to me back then?! I appreciate his fealty, but too much of it can be a hindrance.

“Put her down, Solomon. Hmm, let’s just say she has my permission to be so frank with me.”

“But my lord-”

“Not to mention that there’s no need for you to specially discipline her. She has already faced my wrath after all.”

“F-faced your wrath?! Why?!”

Solomon almost shouted as his hand left Regina’s face.

“Some things happened, and I was left with no other choice but to show her just who she was up against.”

“Up against? Did she rebel?”

“That would normally be the case, but the real perpetrator was Phiria, so Regina’s not at fault.”

“Hmm?” Solomon turned back to Regina and once again scrutinized her by eyeing her from head to toe. “Hmmmm, now that I see it, she does have some signs of being tampered. Her memories…….have been altered, her soul signature has also been modified. I see, due to the modifications made by Ms. Phiria-”

“It’s Mrs. Phiria Hayden.”

Phiria abruptly intruded upon Solomon’s monologue by making an absurd demand.

Huh?

“……….. Ms. Phiria, she no longer remembers you, my lord.” But Solomon didn’t relent. “Very well, she shall be pardoned for just this instance.” He turned to Regina. “But remember, trespass your territory again and-”

“Solomon.”

“Please forgive me for overstepping my bounds, my lord.”

He dropped bowed to me again.

“W-what the fuck is happening here, Samuel?!”

Regina made the same mistake again, but this time, Solomon held himself back and simply glared at her.

“You dare-”

“Oh fuck off!” Regina retorted. “You just caught me off guard back then! Fight me fairly and I’ll show you who’s the boss!”

Wow. Her confidence is quite astounding. Maybe her fearlessness is the result of surviving an encounter with me when I had released the seal on ‘Aspect of the Hell Guards’.

“Fairly? You do realise that there’s no fair and unfair in the battlefield, right?”

“Kugh!” Regina groaned and turned to me. “A-anyway, just tell me what is happening here! Why is a Demon King of another world bowing to you, Samuel?! And why did that Goddess call herself Mrs. Hayden?! Are you a god or something?!”

She scoffed.

“Precisely.”

And so did Solomon.

“Haah?”

“Lord Hayden is the Overlord. That should answer your question.”

“Overlord? I remember him referring to himself as that when we fought Balgaar, but what does it actually mean?”

Oya? That was unexpected.

“You have already met Sir Balgaar? And you still don’t know the Overlord?”

Solomon’s eyes widened in astonishment.

“Sorry for disappointing you, but even after fighting Balgaar, I don’t know what an Overlord is, so would you be kind enough to clearly spell it out for me?”

Regina mocked him.

“Haaahhh.” Solomon sighed sounding exasperated. “Among us demons, there are two special beings. The first of them is us, the Demon Kings. Being the symbol of authority, we rule over demons with our overwhelming power. We kneel to no one, and we take orders from no one. The other being is the one who remains in the shadows. Only the upper echelon of the Demon Kings know about his existence. Not many are left now, of course, so his meaning has been distorted. The one you call Demon God is the Overlord. The strongest of us all, he protects and leads us from the shadows. If we Demon Kings are symbols of authority, then the Overlord alone is the symbol of power.”

“Haaah? Quit joking! He’s just a human!”

“Huh.” Solomon smirked. “What do you think makes the Demon God? Power? Authority? Title? Position? Race?”

“All of those.”

“Wrong. It’s none of those. It is his very existence. He who crushes ‘fate’ itself if he deems it necessary, that is what it means to be the Overlord. Being a human holds no meaning.”

Upon hearing the word ‘fate’, Regina flinched, and just for a moment, her expression contorted into dread. But she quickly regained herself.

“What Solomon says is the truth. The being you worship as the Demon God is actually the Overlord. And the Overlord is Samuel Hayden.”

Phiria backed Solomon’s claims, thus giving more credibility to him.

“……….. No no no no no no no no no no no!” She frantically waved her hands. “There’s just no-”

“Have you not felt it?” Solomon asked her. “Have you not felt that Lord Hayden was someone special from the moment you met him?”

“Well, I did but-”

“And that power which you felt while fighting him. If you fought him, I’m sure that you were thrashed so badly that you were barely alive. In fact, the only reason you are still standing in front of me and spouting such bullshit is because he was merciful enough to spare your life.”

“But that power alone doesn’t guarantee that he is the Demon God!”

Regina still denied Solomon’s claims vehemently.

“Why do you refuse to believe it?”

“Because there’s just no way that the god I love and worship could be so shitty! Do you know what he did back in Phiria’s world?! He sacrificed many lives and played with many more, scarring us so deeply in that process that we were no longer the person we used to be! And-”

“And what was the end result?”

“Huh?”

“Were your wishes fulfilled?”

Solomon asked with a smug smirk.

“Y-yes, but the methods he used were-”

“And the changes that you guys went through, were they so horrible? I’ll admit that the process was terrible, but did you not end up evolving as a person?”

“That’s also true but-”

“Then what more proof do you need? It was his benevolence that not only tolerated your indulgence, but also fulfilled your selfish wishes. Who else would do it if not your own God? Answer me, Regina Zi Maxwell.”

“………. How do you know my name?”

She frowned.

“Oh, of course, I do. We are the same after all; Demon Kings personally created by the Overlord.”

Uhhhhhh, well there are some things I would like to say about his last statement, but I’ll refrain for now.

“I know other things about you too.” He continued. “You have a special skill called the ‘Second Lord’ which ‘makes the world your own’. You also have another skill called ‘The Devil’s Halo’ which improves your regenerative capabilities by leaps and bounds. And the weapon that you use, especially given to you by the Demon God, the ‘Devourer’ is a black sword that can eat up anything like a God of Gluttony. Am I correct?”

Unable to answer anymore, Regina stiffly glared at him. But her silence was proof that what Solomon said was indeed the truth.

“Let’s talk about the Devourer. In theory, it should be able to eat up anything, even if it is a God. However, since you fought Lord Hayden, I’m confident that a time would have come where Devourer would have become unable to eat him. Am I right?”

This time, Regina nodded ever so slightly.

“But of course, that’s a given. After all, a weapon cannot eat its own creator.”

“B-but it was definitely due to some weird skill that he used! Devourer suddenly froze up and-”

“That is just his raw power that made the Devourer compliant.”

“Grrrrr!”

Regina growled in frustration.

Good grief. In a battle of wits Solomon is completely obliterating her. That makes her look so pathetic so I guess I should end this.

“Solomon. Step back, I’ll show her directly.”

“Yes, my lord.”

“Huh? What do you-”

“The Overlord commands you, kneel.”

“Guh!”

Regina groaned in pain as her body abruptly kneeled on the spot. With much difficulty, she finally managed to raise her head and ask with a painful voice.

“W-what did…………… haa, haaa.” She panted due to the sheer effort it was taking just to speak. “you do……………?”

“Show you that I’m your God.”
