ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 287: Epilogue – Spreading Dragon Disaster – Part 3

Amongst the people of the forest, there is a race called the High Elves that is different from all the other forest residents. Unlike their counterpart Dark Elves, who are strong physical fighters, High Elves possess an innate magical talent and their magical powers are also powerful. But what comes together with it is a huge amount of pride and some arrogance as well.

That freaking Tsundere Elf, huh? So……? What of that huge tree……?

HOW DARE YOU ENTER MY DOMAIN WITHOUT PERMISSION!?

There was a loud roaring sound. And for Tottori, who had heard many such sounds before and had excellent hearing, it was no trouble recognizing what that sound was. It was the sound of a rock splitting apart.

…… I think I have the vague idea what we are dealing with here, but I am still going to ask, just in case: how bad is it? Is it dangerous?

This is the Green Dragon, Brockentreed…… when you get in the way of this guy, it is no longer about winning or losing anymore!

The rumbling did not stop. On the contrary, it was growing louder and louder. The tremors were growing so intense that if you did not pay attention to your footing you might have fall to the ground on the spot. But even the sturdy houses erected around the barks of the mighty trees were shaking and looking as if they were about to collapse.

I am really sorry to say this, but as regrettable as it may sound…… I think that Hesh-sama……

A decoy, huh……?

Tottori exits the house alongside one of the Elves that happened to be the member of his party…… Or rather, they have fled from there, paying extra attention to their surroundings, so as to not fall from the top of the great tree towards the ground. Then Tottori looks around.

(I knew it, this has to  be a skill or something very similar to that…… The one that allows you to set a save point and housing anywhere you want, as long as you have the necessary materials and a tree that is big enough…… I would like to learn that skill as well, but what if it is only a tribal thing? Does that mean I would have to convert my character?)

The High Elf were also called the “Wandering Elves” by some, because of their ability to erect their homes almost anywhere that had suitable environment. Apparently it is a trait that they had developed as a result of years of wandering and running away, sometimes of their own volition, and sometimes out of necessity. However, it goes without showing that they did not possess the power necessary to oppose a walking calamity that was a Dragon.

Looking around, you could see that many Elves were already in the middle of abandoning their homes and running away as fast as possible.

However, the most notable thing in the middle of all the chaos here was……

IT SMELLS, IT REEKS…… IT’S AWFUL, THE SMELL OF MY FELLOW BRETHREN…… AND…… THE SMELL OF GOOOOOOLD!!!

Hiii…… Someone, anyone! Please, help me……!

One of the Elven women screamed in terror while laying on the ground. Perhaps she broke her leg while she was trying to get away? It was bent in a strange direction and the woman’s voice was filled with both pain and fear.

Instead of being blown away by the wind current caused by the wings, the woman was hit by one of the dragon’s wings, as if it struck her with a blunt weapon. It’s whole body was covered in hair that looked like elongated tree roots, and as the dragon kept on advancing forward they looked as if each and every single one of them had a mind of its own, moving and swaying.

In Tottori’s mind, a strange kind of analogy had been born: the creature looked like a turtle with a head of the cow and long wings where its arms should actually be.

With the picture of a turtle with cow head and wing—arms now permanently stuck in his head, Tottori starts to run for his life, a bitter smile on his lips all the time.

[Sorry, cow turtle, but you will have to let me through, okay?]

[Nuuuooohhhnnn……?]

[Ah, y-you are……!]

[Believe me, I am not happy to do this, either, especially since I am yet to see your dere side, provided that you even have one…… However, if I let you die in here just like that, I know at least some Elven brothers that would not let me hear the end of it…… I’m sorry to ask this of you, Erina, but could you take her away towards somewhere safe?]

Tottori takes out his bow and readies it, only after entrusting the protesting Hesh to Erina. Incidentally, compared to the other High Elves living in this village, Hesh’s ears were visibly larger and longer than the rest of the people around here.

[Tottori-sama, what are you……?

[I will act as a decoy here instead.]

For Tottori, getting on the good side of the forest people was of the utmost importance. Otherwise, he would not be able to obtain the information about building houses on trees, which would translate to being able to set up save point anywhere on the map if only you desired to do so.

Therefore, if he were to risk his life here trying to rescue Hesh, it would be entirely plausible that he would be able to raise her levels of affection towards himself. And it just so happens that ever since the day that Tottori was greeted as a Hero by the people of the forest, Hesh has been the leader of this here High Elves for as long as anyone could remember. So she was the most valuable source of information in this place, and whenever Tottori would interact with her, he did not forget to let his recording item run throughout the conversations, so that he would not miss even the slightest of details.

But then a sudden thought occurred to him.

[Huh? Now that I think about it, the last place that I have made a save is no longer here. So if I happen to die here, which will surely happen, where exactly am I going to respawn?]

Certainly, if the last save spot was no longer here for any reason, it is only logical to think that he would respawn in a place that he saved his game before that.

However, if he happened to respawn inside of the Pioneer ship that carried players in between the old and the new continent, that would bring another unique problem with itself: it would be extremely hard for him to rejoin the High Elves, who were constantly on the move throughout this continent’s woods.

[GAAAAH! YOU INSOLENT INSECTTTTTTTTT~~~!!!!!!!!!]

[Oh shit, this looks bad! This looks really, really bad……!!!]

WHITE DRAGON IS ANGRY, KNOWING THAT THE STRUGGLE AGAINST THE ROTTEN STEEL IS ENDLESS.

Their bodies are exceptionally tough.

Their bodies are exceptionally big.

Their weapons are always ready, always big and always sharp.

They are called Giants.

And they are…… a race that calls themselves Dragon Slayers.

[MY CHILDREN! MY DEAR, BELOVED CHILDREN……!!! I WON’T FORGIVE YOU! I WILL NOT FORGIVE YOU FOR THIS TRANSGRESSION……!!!!!!]

[GEHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! And what it wrong with that? Are you going to condemn the elephant for crushing the maggots beneath its feet as well?]

[That’s right, that’s right! Well said, my brother! It does not matter who or what they are, or how you decide to prepare them! If they have no value to their lives whatsoever, then becoming the fertilizer for the other maggots and the ground itself is the best thing that could have happened to them!]

Those giants were much bigger than ordinary people. And to top it all off, they were wielding armor and weapons that were severely oversized as well, almost as huge as the giants themselves. And right about now the sheer power of their size could be seen in full display here.

The dragon was all alone. There were two giants standing in front of it. Flying between the two like golden sparks was something that could only be described as pure and unadulterated murderous intent. Additionally, there was a couple of smaller white dragons crawling at the feet of the huge white dragon, all wounded and cowering in fear. It was those dragons who were the target of the two giant’s attacks.

[My friend, gaze upon this! The way in which my partner, my “Claymore Baldon” takes lives away with ease and little to no effort! Is it not simply amazing!?]

[Indeed, my friend! It is quite amazing! But gaze upon this! Burn it into your brain! The way in which my own “Iron Fist’s Amber Egg” does what it was meant to do is by no means worse than your own weapon!]

A large sword flies towards the White Dragon, who had to use all of its willpower in order to stay in place, taking the blow without trying to evade it. If it did evade it, one of the smaller dragons would have surely suffered death by that weapon instead.

However……

At that exact same moment, the spear flew past the white dragon, cutting one of the smaller dragons, effectively cleaving it in half. And that was putting it lightly. For in this situation, the word “explode” into blood and viscera would have been the more adequate description.

[MY CHILDREN! MY PRECIOUS LITTLE CHILDREN! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING, YOU WRETCHES!? I AM Not GOING TO FORGIVE YOU! I AM GOING TO KILL EVERY SINGLE LAST ONE OF YOU!!!]

[Huh? Guahahahahahaha!!! What do you mean? We are taking out the trash! Those little weaklings are trash! That is what they get for quivering in fear behind you all the time, rather than standing up for themselves!]

[But to do something like that with nothing more but a Claymore! Tell me, brother, is it not hard to do something like that on your own, with a weapon like that?]

[Hmm, now that you mention it, it really is like that! I was just about to say that on my own! Umu, umu! But still…… That is hardly going to be enough. All that hacking, all that slashing, and my weapon is yet to reach the level of a Heroic Weapon…… Oh well, I guess it cannot really be helped. We are done here for now. Now, let us retreat and run away for now!]

The end of this conflict could have only been one here. Dragon Slayer Giants may be powerful and tenacious, but they are just that. They have no trump card or abilities that would allow them to bring down a grown up dragon, especially the one that was now enraged. Now when there was only two of them. But even though they concluded that escape was their only option, their fighting spirit would not diminish in the slightest. So even if they were to go down here, they were not going to make it easy for their enemy. They were going to make it work for it.

[Alright, we shall take our leave for now. But make no mistake, vermin! We are going to  be back here again! Untill then……!]

[WAIT! I WON’T LET YOU GET AWAY WITH THIS! YOU’RE GOING TO PAY! I’M GOING TO KILL YOU!!! I’M GOING TO RIP YOU ALL TO SHREADS!!!!!!]

And just like that, today’s battle of Giants against the Dragon concluded. But it was going to continue. Tomorrow. And then the day after tomorrow as well. And then the next day and the next day. Because that was the way in which they could fulfill the ancient promise from the days now long passed. And because it is only through battle that they could all feel that they were truly alive.

THE TIME THAT THE BLACK DRAGON HAS BEEN WAITING FOR FOR SO LONG IS NOW AT HAND, FOR THAT IS THE PROOF.

[Kuh…… Now, this does not look too good…… At this rate it is going to break through!]

[God damn it, even though this thing is a Dragon, it did something that a Boss Character would not shy away from doing during the last battle! That damned Dragon surely likes to do things in an asshole kind of a way.]

[Reinforcements are already on their way! What the, geh! It’s a freaking Cerberus Tyranno  coming this way!!!]

The Tank players that were forming their defense lines were all blown away in a manner of seconds. Then a monster bearing a striking resemblance to the Tyranosaurus Rex breaks through the Tank players, each of its three heads bending backwards as an ear-shattering roar is being released from them all at once. In response, another line of players form a defensive line in a hurry.

However, that line was something that a three-headed dinosaur…… Dracarus Dino Cerberus did not need concern itself with. They would be unable to stop it even if they tried. And right now it was more than willing to show that even the best raid boss subjugation party would not be enough to best its might.

[It’s just as if this black lizard was mocking us! Like it was saying that there is no way that we are even worth of getting torn apart by its claws! Is this thing flexing on us!? It is, isn’t it!?]

[And besides, a monster leading a Monster Train? Is it not too cheesy, even for a video game!?]

[Hoo? For some lowly worms, you surely like to bark a whole lot. Very well, then. If you wish to get trampled flat by me personally, I am going to humor you just this once.]

At the same time, the coastal city that the Pioneers adopted as their base of operations here in the New World, even though well-fortified and well-equipped, was being utterly destroyed.

And it was all because of the monsters that the Black Dragon Noirlind brought here with itself. Also, while the city was burning and players were being killed, the very same black Dragon was throwing ridicules and profanities towards humans, mocking their weakness and vulnerability.

[Hmph…… Weak, so pathetically weak! Weak maggots such as you should just drop dead on the spot, or beg me on your knees for me to spare you and let you become my slaves!]

[Oh yeah!? You’d better not come to regret those words in the future! You cheeky lizard! “Flame Bre”…… Kyah!!]

If this attack was only a one time occurrence by Noirlind alone, the players would have been able to repel it, albeit not without their share of difficulties.

However, having to repel Noirlind and having to defend the town from the monsters it has brought with itself at the same time…… That was a task that the first wave of newly arrived Pioneer players was not prepared for. At all.

[IS THAT LITTLE SHELL THE THING IN WHICH YOU HAVE COME HERE? THEN I WONDER…… WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I WERE TO BREAK IT APART!?]

[Oh shit…… This thing is targeting the ship! We must stop it at once! Everyone who can get in its way, do so right now!]

Something started to gather inside of the Black Dragon’s mouth. That thing was the Dragon Breath, a special attack of dragons that could incinerate any player without a trace, and it would certainly cause a fatal damage to the unprotected flank of the ship that was anchored in the town’s harbor.

The player that happened to attract Noirlind’s attention all of a sudden got trampled by the hybrid of triceratops and a horse that jumped on them from the side.

That way, with all obstables now out of the way, the ball of flames released from Noirlind’s mouth goes straight towards the Pioneer players’ vessel……

[I must say, even thought there is a huge gap between us, that persistence of yours is nothing short of a first class…… Noirlind.]

The ball of flames did not reached its mark.

The moment before the Dragon’s Breath managed to reach its target, a mass of golden scales landed in its way, and upon impact, that Dragon Breath dissipated like a puff of smoke, without causing any harm to anything. Then the clouds dispersed as if banished by the gust of a powerful wind.

[OHHHH…… OOOHHHH! THIS GOLDEN COLOR, IT’S GRANDOUS APPEARANCE! I SHALL NEVER FORGET IT! I SHALL NEVER FORGET IT! HOW COULD I FORGET THE HUMILIATION I HAVE SUFFERED FROM YOU!? EVEN IF I CONTINUE TO BE REVIVED OVER AN OVER AGAIN, THERE IS NO WAY THAT I WOULD FORGET IT!!!]

[Hmph…… Well, is it not a cheeky line, coming from a mere parasite that eats away at the expense of the world? And for such parasite to claim that he is standing at the absolute top?]

[SI…… SIEGWURM!!!!!! YOU……!!!!!!]

The black dragon stomped on the half-dead person, killing them on the spot. Was it simply by accident? Or was it an act of mercy?

It was at this moment that the Golden Dragon King made an appearance, protecting the vessel with which the Pioneers arrived in the New World, and that simultaneously served as their precious save point here in the New World.

AND THUS, THE GOLDEN DRAGON KING LETS OUT A DEEP SIGH. OH HUMANS, YOUR ONLY HOPE IS TO BE ABLE TO BEST ME, TO GO BEYOND ME. AND JUST LIKE THAT……

Unique Scenario EX “Let Us Go Forth, Our Destiny Lies Beyond the Frozen Void Filled With Stars!” has started.

WARNING: This quest cannot be acquired through any normal means. All of the Players arriving in the area of the New World shall acquire this quest automatically.
