CHAPTER 115: IMPACTFUL ENTRANCE

“Your Majesty, I did not expect you to be here as well.”
It was the King himself. A wave of disappointment rushed all over me as I realized that my mysterious man did not appear.

“Actually, I came here looking for you. I need to ask you about something. You see last time we met, I saw your sword and I simply could not stop thinking about it. I know you have it on you and I want to have it appraised. You see Daisuke has the ability to see the information about items and I want him to check why my Sword of Light reacted so strongly to your sword.”

Oh snap, I totally forgot that the King is obsessed with strong artifacts and legendary equipment. I guess he will not stop trying to figure out my weapon until he finds out the truth. Especially if he finds out that his sword is one of the pieces I need to complete the Rainbow Blade. From when I told him about my goal as an adventurer I could see the passion in finding those swords before me. Luckily I didn’t tell him the whole truth about his and my sword.

“Please forgive my rudeness Your Majesty, but I cannot comply with your request. Do not think ill of me, it is just that I do wish to keep some of my strength a secret. I already revealed all of my power to you while at the tournament and our coincidental meeting on the seas.”

Nothing good will come out if everyone knows about me. Least of all, the King as he is already dead set on hooking me up with Vitou-sama to control me. If he finds out just how much I am keeping secret I will be killed for sure just so I wouldn’t become a threat in the future.

“It is truly a pity. And here I thought I would be able to learn more about you Naoko-chan. Come with me, it is getting cold outside. A drink will help warm you up. I won’t take no for an answer.”

I looked back as I left the garden behind. Once again, I was among the nobles and regretting not leaving earlier in hopes that my mystery man would appear. Finally I realized why he never lets anyone know anything about him, it only garners unwanted attention and more trouble.

Back at the hall where the party was being held, I noticed Vitou-sama being swept by countless ladies while the Earl was avoiding pretty much everyone and silently drinking his wine. Once the two of us entered all eyes turned and focused on us. Oh how I wish I could turn invisible at this moment.

I tried to slip away once more and hide somewhere else, but the King dragged me towards the refreshment area and offered me a cup of wine. I tried refusing knowing that I cannot handle it at all, even though I knew I could offend the King that way.

“Your Majesty, please, I am aware how alcohol affects me and drinking this cup of wine is ill advised for everyone including yourself. I would gladly accept it, but most likely I will say or do something that will offend everyone present here.”

“Nonsense! I haven’t seen anyone get drunk after this meager amount. Besides from what I heard you are a very strong drinker, so come on and let us toast.”

It was over; I knew that things would only go downhill from this moment on. I just hope that am not in prison by tomorrow morning or that I do not become a wanted criminal. I was still hesitating, but with the King’s urging I resigned myself to fate. I brought the glass to my mouth, when all of a sudden a hand covered the glass and took it from my hand.

“I know that she is cute beyond all measure, but please don’t force her to do things she doesn’t want. I hate seeing my cute Nao-chan uncomfortable and upset.”

His sudden appearance startled everyone in the room. I can’t believe it, he actually appeared and moreover, in such a manner that showed himself before everyone.

“Who are you? This is a private party. You can’t just waltz in!”

“How are you here? I wanted to meet you but I couldn’t find you.”

I ignored the King and focused on the man wearing his usual black clothes this time paired with a mask hiding half of his face. I needed to thank him for the dress and the staff he gave me before, but sadly I couldn’t do that with fifty or so guards pointing their swords at him.

“I had a little something to take care off. I will get you out in a bit. Let me deal with this first. I don’t like having weapons pointed at me. It annoys me.”

He took out a pitch black tile that had a golden dragon coiling around three stars carved in. This was the first time I saw such design. I spent quite some time studying different emblems of both Elicia and Vilikis when I became a noble, but I can say with certainty that this emblem was never mentioned in any of the books about nobles.

Yet at the moment this tile was shown to the King he face turned sour. I couldn’t believe my eyes. We are talking about the highest authority in this kingdom and yet he looked uneasy upon seeing this. Even Vitou-sama looked shocked and wary at the same time.

“I believe this qualifies as an invitation. After all weren’t all nobles in the area invited?”

“My apologies Archduke, it has been a very long time that anyone had appeared bearing that title. Last record was during my great-grandfather’s rule. I was not aware of the Archduke having descendants.”

Talk about shocking, my mystery man was an Archduke. I didn’t know that was a title at all, since the highest nobility after royal house was the Duke. Moreover, the King was acting polite towards him, almost servile. Something stinks here.

“Now there is also another reason why I am showing you this. You see my sweet little Nao-chan has been given nobility rank which is only natural seeing how much she did for the kingdom however, I cannot feel at ease seeing as she has to reply to young Earl Orzak here. I don’t like that and I want to never happen again. That is why I want to announce that she is directly under my house since it is only natural. I wouldn’t want my sweet and cute little sister to be without proper backing in this place.”

I was stunned. The rest of the room was stunned as well. I couldn’t believe this. What the heck happened to my mystery man? Since when did he become this doting older brother personality? What happened to his cold and calm appearance that he always showed me?

First he revealed his strong presence by rebutting the king and taking my drink away from me showing his calm and composed side. Then he revealed his nobility rank and showed his truly domineering side. But when he claims that I am his sister, which I knew nothing of, he turns into this doting brother type that is complete opposite of what everything I knew about him.

Just what is going on here?
