CHAPTER 12: RANK UP

I absolutely hate Spirit Magic, thanks to developing it, ghosts of dead people tend to flock around me and pester me. I was in a bind for a while because of it, luckily the salt blessed by priests in the temple seemed to have done the trick and now less and less of them keep coming. I should be able to live somewhat comfortably now. Thankfully I watched enough movies about ghosts to think of this idea.

Today I had an important thing to do. That was to go and choose my own class and pass the rank up exam at the guild. I reached LV10 which was the requirement for the free class change, and also I have enough requests completed to promote my adventurer rank. First thing in the morning I visited the government building to get my class.

“Good morning. How may I help you?”

“Good morning, I am here to get my class selected.”

“Wow, so young and already LV10, how admirable. Please follow me and I will help you choose your class.”

This person led me to a room with a huge magic circle drawn on the floor. I assumed that this was how they change the class forcibly. I do wonder how it really works, but from all the research I did there wasn’t much I could find about magic circles. Maybe one day when I visit the capital city, I can learn more from the library there.

“Do you know which class you want to change to? I must warn you that you need to have some foundation for that class in order to change to it otherwise you might die if your body is not prepared. Do you understand?”

“Yes, thanks. I am all set.”

I decided that I want to use Magic Swordsman class since it represents what I am at the moment. With no attack magic I must use weapons but I also apply debuffs regularly, so some magic boost is always welcome.

“In that case stand in the circle and speak the name of the class that you want to use
once it glows.”

I did as she said, but nothing happened. The circle never glowed. I was just as surprised as the receptionist.

“Has anything like this happened before?”

“From my knowledge, no it hasn’t. Do you happen to already have a class young miss?”

“No, I don’t. I don’t have any class set.”

“In that case I must conclude that for some reason you are unable to acquire your class. The gods must have determined that your fate would be as such. I am sorry for not being of much help.”

Feeling utterly dejected I left the building and went for the guild. It was morning which meant that Nino-san wasn’t working. The only free person at the counters was Bitch-chan Anika, I didn’t like her, much like the rest of the guild. The only people that she would suck up to were high ranked adventurers that came through the town. She was really hostile towards new adventurers and especially towards any girls in the guild, including me. Several times I was on the brink of slapping that face of hers.

“Queen-sama is angry. Stay away.”
“Uwah… I saw her that night. She is terrifying”
“I want her to step on me.”

People would always gossip about my drunken night here, but I still haven’t learned as to why they started calling me Queen. It was too embarrassing. The only explanation that I ever got was because I earned it, not much help if you ask me.

Since I was already feeling like shit I didn’t want to spend too much time at the guild so I decided to endure Bitch-chan’s insults for a bit so I could be out of here as soon as possible.

“I’m here for a rank up test.”

“Well if it isn’t a little brat… You can’t rank up before you turn 14 G-rank brat.”

“Just shut up and process my application. I’m already pissed enough.”

The face she made when I talked back to her was far from her pretty façade that she
usually keeps up. If she doesn’t like it she should just treat me better in the future.

“A mere G-rank brat dares to talk back to me. I just want to know whose c*ck you
sucked to let you register as F-rank.”

Ouch that was harsh even for here. Even some people standing near looked shocked at her words. I have no idea how she can remain here and not get fired. I swear if she doesn’t lose her job I will end up beating her up.

“Maybe you should ask your daddy. You know maybe his wife should be a bit worried  since he is showing interest in a small kid like me.”

Ooh, that felt good. Bitch-chan completely lost it. She was fuming and I saw her
clenching a fist. I don’t think she ever lost composure to this degree before.

“You wh*re! I will make you pay for this!”

“Yeah, yeah but first process my application. You see I am quite busy. I’m meeting your daddy later on. He said he would give me some candy if I can be a good girl. I bet he never gave you any candy.”

I could see in her eyes that she really wanted to hit me, but she held back. She wouldn’t get away with hitting someone while in the guild.

“It’s the Queen, she’s ruthless.”
“Go Queen, show her who’s in charge!”

Bitch-chan stamped my application and shoved it to me. Now all I had to do was go to the arena and after a mock fight I would be judged if I can be promoted or not.

“Keep this in mind G-rank whore; I will turn your life miserable. You will regret ever
daring to insult me.”

“Yeah, sure, whatever… have a good day Bitch-chan.”

I left the room with those words. Those who treat me rudely will receive the same
response from me. Feeling slightly better I entered the arena where I will have me exam.
