CHAPTER 130: LAND OWNER

“Well it took you long enough; I expected you would come here earlier since you cleaned up that place quite well. I hate being at a loss, but that area really has no value to me. The land is harsh and cannot be cultivated and sadly no valuable ores can be found in that place. The only value that mountain has is stone, but since a Goblin King appeared inside once it will bear evil energy and nobody would want to buy it.”

I haven’t said a single word and he already had the documents pushed in front of me with the contract for buying the land of that mountain. The only thing missing is the amount to pay and how it will be paid. I realized that even though in most cases he was lazy and couldn’t care less about the rest of the nobles, he really can do his job well. I read through the contract and saw that the estimated price for the land is ten thousand gold coins which also included some surrounding area. Thinking about it, this should be a fair prize and I didn’t want to bargain further so I decided to settle with that price.

“You really are skilled at this kind of jobs, I agree to this price, but I will not pay only in gold coins, but also some artifacts and some precious stones.”

“That land will remain under my rule nonetheless. It will not be considered a duchy even if you are its owner. That is why you will still pay taxes to me. I don’t know what you are planning to do with that land, but seeing how your little groups were running around today I can guess what you are thinking.”

“Is that so? Then, what is it?”

“I can only guess you are planning on training them to fight in small spaces like those often found in dungeons. I don’t know where you saw what they look like considering you are still only a B-rank adventurer, but those caverns really look like they are a monster dungeon. Do you want to train those brats to take down the last three dungeons in Elicia? Those places are not for kids and can only give you headaches, but also can turn out to be true treasure troves.”

I was surprised how he thought, so from what he told me all the dungeons were destroyed and these last three that I knew of were existing because they were too strong to be destroyed. What a shame, since dungeons create endless monster why not use some to make the training grounds for adventurers or hunters.

“That’s true, I don’t know much about them. I just thought that learning to fight in many different areas can only be beneficial.”

“Of course you wouldn’t, after all there are only three in the entire kingdom. I suggest you don’t try and send those brats to dungeons before they can deal with rampaging dragons easily, otherwise they would be sent to death. Man, worrying about them only causes me headaches.”

It seems like the Earl is talkative today, I should probably use this opportunity to learn more about dungeons.

“Then how would you find new dungeons? There could be hidden ones all around this kingdom. How can you be sure there are only three of them?”

“When a dungeon is created a strong mana ripples are created alongside it and then they spread for miles and miles away. Unless it is some godforsaken area, people would find out about it. Not to mention that every town has a special crystal that tracks the changes in mana concentration and in case there is a change it will immediately send that information to the Magic Institute in Kapitalia where it will be recorded and reported to the King.”

I wanted to curse out loud, but remained calm. If that is the case, hiding the fact that Goblin Lair turned into a real dungeon will be extremely hard. I really wanted that place to become a dungeon, but if it meant everyone swarming and destroying it as soon as it appears it will be hard. I took the contract for the land and bid the Earl goodbye. Before heading out to teach the kids I stopped by the government building and made my first payment of 300 gold and left. According to the contract I would have to pay at least a 1000 gold per year until I pay off the value of the land.

The afternoon was spent teaching the traits of beasts and how to deal with them, what to look out for and what to target. I didn’t spend days and weeks for naught. I even made a deal with some other adventurers from the guild to teach the kids as well, but that was for the future date

I planned it out so that every day would be different. Bestiary, magic, survivability, herbology and tactics, all of these classes were important for each and every member because I needed all of them to be knowledgeable about all the opponents they might come across at any situation.

Mornings were different, it was the time for individual practice. I would give tasks to every member and then watch over them and help out if I saw something I could help them improve. Since all of them had their basics of combat down, I often sent some to fight monsters under the careful watch of Byakko, Yoru or one of the senior members. Usually those members were either vanguards or scouts.

The mages were different, instead of hunting, I had them focus on fine control of their magic as well as endurance. I had learned that extreme mana exhausting and replenishment can increase one’s mana pool. I also taught them how to cast magic without incantation or with shortened one as well as casting multiple spells simultaneously.

The two archers in the group had a different task. They had to shoot out three hundred arrows each morning and then focus on magic. I wasn’t planning on making them into mages, but I wanted them to add magic onto their arrows to increase the power and/or range of attack. Since this was not complicated magic and doesn’t require much mana they will be able to use it to surprise the enemy and deal more damage.

As expected, [Teaching] skill appeared on the second day and it allowed me to pass on the knowledge across with much ease. Another thing to notice is that it only improved when I was teaching theory and not practical skills. It was nice since I felt like giving a lecture became easier and I was less nervous.

The weekends were free for everyone. I have them the freedom to do what they wanted and during that time I would dig my dungeon and take requests at the guild to stop the perimeter from shrinking.

Time went by, and a month had passed. There was already visible improvement among every one of my students. When my [Teaching] skill reached maximum level I gained another title [Teacher]. It increased the skill experience of those I was teaching by 15% whenever they are learning a skill from me. This really helped a lot during morning practice.

The afternoon classes soon became extremely popular among and many adventurers and commoners would come by and participate in class since it was often held outdoors. I even saw the Earl several times among those listening to the lecture. At first I didn’t do anything about it thinking they wouldn’t be interested for long, but that was not the case. A lot of people came by and begged me to put up notices of what lectured I will be holding for the coming week so they could plan out their days around the lectures that they found interesting.

There was even a petition started to open a school in this town that will be open to the public thanks to my act. I was even invited to be a lecturer which I immediately declined. That was too much time and this was only temporary until my students are ready for the next phase.

One thing that didn’t change after all this time is the dragon that kept on roaring all night long. He was still in the area looking for me. Yet, despite all the roaring and thundering it made, it didn’t attack the town once. The people of Orzak soon got used to it being a natural occurrence and were no longer nervous about it and I had a similar attitude. Since it wasn’t attacking me I will not bother it either. However, I did have a plan for it in the future. He was the key to making my plan work out.
