CHAPTER 136: PUSHED TOO FAR

***NAKAMURA’S POV***

I looked at Maeda-san that was re-entering the village. Her mana was raging wildly and I couldn’t get a clear read on her status because of it.

“Oi Daisuke, did we push her too much? I know Vitou said to test her limit, but did we go a bit too far.”

“Maybe mentioning her marriage was a bad idea. We were told how all that went down so I can see her snapping just from that.”

The village soon became covered in mist. Since I was keeping an eye on Maeda-san I realized that she was the one that brought this on. Just looking at the black screen that hid the village gave me the creeps. We have definitely pushed her too far. Maybe I should thank the stars she didn’t decide to take it all out on the two of us.

“Taichi, Daisuke what is going on? Where is Nao-chan? I thought she was with the two of you. Something is going on and we think that the boss monster will appear soon. From the looks of it this one is much stronger than the previous ones.”

Hiiro came running towards us, his sword at the ready. He kept on nervously glancing at the village. I just shook my head and gave him an explanation.

“Maeda-san is the one causing all that, she said she is going inside to vent her frustrations. I think she wasn’t moving much lately and that is why she is going all out. You heard that child call her sensei, she as a Duchess must be teaching them in some sort of school, not much action if you ask me.”

“Isn’t it dangerous? I mean there are still a lot of ogres left and this time there is no trap to fall into. We should probably go and help her.”

As soon as he said that the screams of agony started spreading through the air. Since coming to this world I saw many monsters die, but none ever made such sounds of agony as these ones. Everyone that was outside backed away and joined the three of us only watching the black mist without knowing what exactly was causing those monsters to scream in such pain.

“Do you still think we need to help her? I’m sure you’re feeling the same thing, but if we come anywhere near that place we will also be in danger. If you are willing to jump to your death then go ahead.”

I saw Hiiro cringe at my words, everyone save for one person backed away. That was Izumi-kun, the same one that bet Maeda-san and lost. From his status I knew he didn’t bother to train or grind for levels. Honestly he was the weakest one among all of us.

“You are all cowards, that person is weak and can only resort to tricks to win. I bet she just wants to hog all the experience for herself and collect all the materials, as if I would allow that. She’s a curse magician, she can’t attack with that. We were all taught Dark and Spirit Magic is useless. I will show you all that she is nothing but a weakling.”

At that moment all of us felt an explosion of mana coming from the inside of the village. It was undoubtedly Maeda-san’s and as it settled the mist around the village became denser. I looked at Taichi and immediately had him run after Izumi-kun. Even if he was weaker than the rest of us, he was still a hero and a valuable asset to the kingdom.

Right now she was still in control of her magic, but I had no idea how long that will last because from the way her mana was acting before I would not dare to bet she will be able to perfectly control everything and not harm any of her allies. That is why I made sure to cast a purification barrier around us just in case. Few others joined as well , if that thing really is Dark Magic, then Light Magic should be able to counter it.

Unfortunately, the very next moment a scream, different from the ones before was heard. Izumi-kun was lying on the floor in extreme pain. Taichi hurried up and brought him back inside the barrier, but I couldn’t see what happened to him. He only kept on screaming and twitching in pain.

I chanted a healing spell, but even that did not seem to help. I had no idea what was happening to him. He kept on twitching on the ground and screaming not allowing anyone to come close.

“Restrain him, I need to find out what happened!”

Immediately four people jumped up and held him in place. As soon as Taichi grabbed his left hand it became obvious. His fingers were nowhere to be seen, only bones were left in their place and the rotting of skin was slowly moving to the rest of his hand.

I realized what was happening. This was a curse, and a terrible one at that. I used purification magic over and over again, but I couldn’t remove it. This meant that the curse was one of the highest tiers of magic and that Maeda-san was able to surpass me in pure magic power.

I tried again, but this time with the help of everyone that had Light Magic to no avail. In the end I had no choice but to cut off his left hand at the wrist to stop the spreading of the curse. It was unfortunate, but it is nonetheless better than death.

“Daisuke, we definitely pushed her too far. I can’t think anyone can go against this curse.”

“Vitou-sama will not like this. She was able to create Dark attack magic that might be even worse than Necromancy. This curse devours life and uses the victims energy, mana and body to fuel itself.”

I sent a silent prayer to all twelve gods from saving me from her wrath. She could have easily gone against the two of us earlier, but didn’t. I was staring at the mist listening to the screams that were becoming quieter with every passing moment until nothing more could be heard. It was only then that the mist started dispersing and from within the village Maeda-san walked out looking rather pleased with herself.

I shivered. That innocent look on her face after all that slaughter actually made me tremble with fear. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine her to be like this. She was crazy and I was one of the people that helped her push over the edge. I forced myself to look away from her and noticed that the rest of the company behind me was in pretty much the same shape. The only one that was different was Hiiro who was looking at Maeda-san with pity and sadness.

As she was walking towards us a giant form began materializing behind her. At first I thought she was doing something to us or that I was hallucinating. It was only once the form was completely materialized that I realized the boss monster appeared ahead of time most likely because she killed every single ogre at the village.

I wanted to call out to her and warn her, but before I could make a sound Maeda-san disappeared and the next moment the giant ogre that was behind her collapsed on the floor with both of its heads cleanly cut off. On its back a girl stood with two swords in her hands one blue one purple as blood dripped from the blades.

I couldn’t believe my eyes, I knew the stats and information about her, but even with that she shouldn’t be able to one shot a monster like that. That is not the way boss fights go. I stared at the dead body of the Twin-headed Ogre unable to mutter out a single word.
