CHAPTER 137: OVERLOOKED FACT

I was in such a good mood now that I was able to blow out. Not only did I level up, but I was also able to gain overall power up earlier. All my stats rose by 50 points from having the seal on [Daughter of Death] title broken. I didn’t even know that was a sealed title in the first place. But to make things even better Amethyst can be said to have had its seal also broken. At least somewhat as it is now an Epic-ranked weapon and I can use its [Dark Shattering Slash] which can break any magic sent my way.
While I was still shrouded by dark mist I was able to inspect my new gains. The improved [Daughter of Death] now allows me to see the fatal weakness of every living being; basically it is an OP skill that allows me to one-shot almost every creature. But what was more interesting is the evolution point. This is used to evolve skills to a new rank. I didn’t think something like this even existed since there was absolutely no mention of it in the books and this is not something that would be kept a secret if it was known.
I was contemplating about whether to use them now or later, but since I immediately had several ideas on what to combine I decided to use the mist cloak that I had and evolve the skills right now. First I combined all my hiding skills since I wanted to have a way to completely suppress the effect of [Object of Desire] title. What I gained was a skill [Perfect Concealment] which allows me to conceal myself from all eyes as long as I wanted to.
Next one I chose for the sake of convenience. I combined all my detection and tracking skills with [Mapping] and [Map Projection] and just as I hoped I gained a map function just like the one I would have in games with red dots as enemies, blue as allies and white for neutral creatures. The map had all the areas I have been to and there was also a mini map function as a bonus.
I left the last evolution point alone for now. I didn’t know if I would gain any more in the future, so I will save this one to come up with a better combination later on.
And lastly there was the title [Curse Magician] which increases my Dark magic attribute by 50% and increases resistance against Dark Magic by 40% meaning my magic just became stronger and it will hurt less when hit by it. I was really glad that Hiiro dragged me to this place.
Speaking of which, I looked at the Hero party as they were all crowded together inside a barrier, if you ask me a barrier like that wouldn’t have been of much help against a boss monster. Well since I already defeated it there is no need to keep it up any longer.
As I approached them nobody moved aside from Hii-chan who came forward and congratulated me on defeating the boss monster also thanking me because they were all able to get extra credit because it was done in record time.
“Nao-chan you really helped us out this time. None of us even knew we could get more bonuses if we finish a quest before the designated time. This will be helpful in the future.”
“You’re welcome. Thanks for inviting me, it has been a long time since I was able to go all out like that. Last time it was against an army of Orcs and that was months ago. It’s good to move your body like this.”
“I almost want to bring you along with us, but sadly our party is already full and I know you have your own obligations. Come on, I will escort you back to Orzak.”
I finally realized that the rest of them were looking at me with terror in their eyes as if I was the one that was the true monster. I saw those eyes before. It was so many years ago that I almost forgot about it. It was the day they found my mother and elder sister and I stood there silent. Those eyes looked at me like I was a monster and not a child. Of all the friends I had only Hii-chan smiled at me, just like how he is doing now.
“It’s okay travelling with a carriage is way too slow for me. Thanks Hii-chan, you are my best friend after all. I’ll be fine. Come by later on when you have time. You are always free to stay at my inn.”
I gave him a hug and then teleported away. It didn’t take me long to realize why they thought of me as a monster. Seeing the mist and hearing all those cries only to later see me coming out unscathed and completely relaxed must have been too much for them to handle.
Turning away from the Ogre village I headed back towards Orzak town. It was only when I was close to the city gates that I realized something was wrong. How was I able to reach that village in the first place since there is magic preventing me from going a certain distance away from the town. And that place is definitely outside the perimeter.
I suddenly had a bad feeling about all this. I was originally going to sell the Ogres at the guild since they are counted as C-rank monsters close to B-rank, but now I was not really sure if I should do that. Well either way I will visit the guild to sell off some other stuff. I do have two dozen people to feed and more money is always welcome.
“Evening Naoko-san, what brings you to the guild? I haven’t seen you lately at all.”
“Nino-san, I missed you so much. I have been so busy lately that I barely have time for myself. As you know I am working with guys from my clan. But today I am here to sell some materials.”
At that moment the Guild Master came from his room and upon seeing me talking to Nino-san he literally ran towards me and dragged me to his room without saying anything.
“Naoko-chan I see you are already back, how was the request?”
“I don’t know what you are talking about. I didn’t take any requests.”
Oh dear, I really have a bad feeling about this.
“Hmm, that is not what I heard, you see earlier today some heroes arrived and said that you will be going with them to deal with their request. It was to deal with a rather problematic Ogre village.”
“Oh my how terrible, you should send more people to help the heroes, you see I am busy with teaching everyone from my Clan.”
So this is how I was able to leave the perimeter, Hii-chan said I will be going with them to deal with the Ogres and since it was an A-ranked request I was free to go. I should have noticed this earlier and not now that it was too late.
“Indeed it is horrible, according to scouts that were sent there were over 200 ogres at that village. A force that large, to make a subjugation request it will be proclaimed A-rank at the very least. Sadly, there aren’t many people that can take on those quests.”
“That really is a problem since there aren’t many B and A ranked adventurers.”
“Indeed, I guess we must be lucky since somebody already did all the work for us. You see just before you arrived here a guest came in for visit and delivered this to me. This is a recording crystal, something extremely precious as it uses Mana Crystals to manufacture them. It can record a scene and then play it back just by imputing some mana.”
I stared at the image in the crystal as it showed me drowning countless ogres and later on creating a thick mist and finally killing the Giant Twin-Headed Ogre. Shit! How did he get that? And who gave it to him?
“Oh wow we really are lucky. Whoever did that must want to remain hidden since he/she didn’t bother to accept the request personally nor look for the reward.”
“STOP SPEWING NONSENSE! If I tell you to bring out the ogre corpses that you collected tell me that you won’t have 209 of them in your inventory?”
As he asked that he tossed a plate at me. It was the one that can tell if a person is lying or not.
“No, I will not have 209 of them in my inventory.”
I had more of them, but since I was telling the truth the plate turned green. Hah, in your face Guild Master, you can’t mess with me boi.
“How many would you have then? Do tell me Naoko-chan.”
I remained silent. I celebrated too early. Since I didn’t say anything he repeated himself this time louder and more sternly.
“How many?!”
“792 corpses and 93 skeletons.”
‘Ding’
The plate turned green.
