CHAPTER 139: FINAL PREPARATIONS

“Byakko, Yoru, please clear away all the monsters in the Goblin Lair and then I want you to run to Orzak and search for mana detecting crystal. Once you find it you will have to destroy it. It doesn’t matter if you can, but you must at the very least try to do it. The time will be as soon as the moon sets below the horizon.”

It was finally the time to use the Dungeon Seed that was gifted to me. Right now was probably the most ideal time to do so since most of higher ranked adventurers are focused on Icefire mountains and that way I will not become an immediate target. Another reason is because the annual guild masters’ meeting is being held and all the guild masters are heading for Kapitalia. That means that a response to a new dungeon will most likely be slightly delayed.

The final reason why I decided to do this now is because I wanted to deal with this persistent dragon that does not want to leave me alone. Honestly I was really tired of always being on guard against it and having to have all my hiding abilities active just so he can’t pinpoint my location. And since the dragon is already here I can bet others would assume the new dungeon master will be him and not me.

But to ensure I don’t even become a potential suspect I need to do one more thing. That is why I was standing right in front of the guild looking at its door contemplating is this really worth it and gaining more contributions.

“Naoko-san, what are you doing outside, why aren’t you entering?”

“Eh? Nino-san, what are you doing at the guild so early. I thought your shift doesn’t start for a few more hours.”

“I am in charge of Guild Master’s work while he is away, that is why I am working on a different schedule for the time being. If you need anything, feel free to ask, but I would really appreciate if you don’t ask for anything complicated. Come on in, and oh, I will need your guild card. I must add the contribution for ogre village extermination. Don’t worry, I will make it so it counts as an A-rank request you completed with a party.”

Oh that is better than I thought. I gave him the card and went over to the request board to look for something I can do. I know that my plan will make it so that I will have to gain more contributions, but this is all for the bigger picture. I saw there were a lot more of B and C rank requests than I usually saw and it was most likely because a lot of adventurers were at Icefire Mountains and the rest is because of my title that more monsters are being seen around here. But I will leave those requests for my students.

What I was interested in were A-rank requests. There were currently three of them posted on the board: wyvern subjugation, dragon scale collection and search for Ice essence. Upon reading details I decided to go for the first one. It was merely four days away, which meant I could get there in a few hours and it didn’t sound as bothersome as other two.

“Nino-san, how long has the wyvern request been put up for?”

“Hmm… I think it is roughly a week or so. I remember being it just before Guild Master left. Wyverns are tricky monsters to deal with since they run away at the first sign of danger, really hard to catch them, especially in this case, because it is located in the plains.”

Hou, that is interesting. So if I can reach it, there wouldn’t be much of a problem dealing with it. Also the four days of leisure will come in nicely to deal with dungeon setup. Actually it will be more than enough if my calculations are correct.

“Is there any danger of there being a nest and then after dealing with it being awarded extra contributions, or something like that?”

“There shouldn’t be. Only one was spotted, and as you know this is weird because plains are natural habitat of wyverns. That is why our scouts are certain it is the case of only a single one.”

“In that case I will take it, but if it turns out to be troublesome I don’t want extra credit to be given to me.”

“That is fine, I will process your request. When do you plan on leaving?”

“I will go immediately. I will be back in ten days or so most likely. Don’t overwork yourself Nino-san and tell Millie-chan I said hi.”

I took back my guild card and left. I made sure to visit the blacksmith to restock on my throwing knives and other disposables and to tell him I was leaving. I had lunch with Mylene-san and also visited Ronda and her friends before meeting my students. I made sure that everyone knew I was leaving to do a request.

I left town and went in the direction of the plains where the wyvern was spotted. Once I was far enough I backtracked and returned to the Goblin’s Lair and went for the fourth floor where my lounge was. I already had everything prepared and the only thing that I needed was a place to put the dungeon core.

With help from elementals another room was added next to my living room with a special pedestal in the center of it. This was probably not the smartest idea since it was basically screaming ‘this is the dungeon core’ however, since I was doing this I wanted it to feel dungeon-y.

I took out the Dungeon Seed and inspected it once again. I first made sure there wasn’t any speck or trace of my mysterious man left on that item and that there weren’t any traces of spells or other things that would control the item remotely. I could totally see him trying to wrestle this dungeon away from me and only wanted me to set everything up for him. Last time I accepted a gift from him was not the most pleasant of memories.

As I was about to do something extremely dangerous I decided to reach my optimal condition before heading into battle. That is why I had a nice warm dinner and took a nap. I will start once the moon starts to set down.

***NINO’S POV***

Was I wrong? I thought she didn’t want to rank up and that is why she kept on throwing those fits. I was about to leave the guild when the most famous group in town arrived.

“Luca-kun, Zyra-san welcome, I will process your completed requests. I noticed that you are going in groups of twelve now. I will allow you to take on some of the easier A-rank requests if they show up. I am more than assured of your abilities.”

I don’t know where Naoko-san was able to find so many talented people and also gather them in one place, but these two dozen people were extremely monstrous. They took on two B-rank requests just yesterday and already they seem to be finished with them. It seems to me that those that follow Naoko-san all defy common sense.

“Nino-san, how did you know we were successful? We haven’t said anything yet.”

“Because I know Naoko-san and I know you. Moreover, she would never allow you to do something that was impossible for you. Plus with twelve of you working together I’m sure you can take on monsters that would require thirty people otherwise.”

I heaved a sigh; those kids will definitely be new stars of the guild in a few years alongside Naoko-san. Sadly they will not stay in Orzak and will most likely travel the continent in search of better challenges. At least that is what I figured from what Naoko-san wanted of them. Luckily we still have her to stay and keep Orzak safe.
