CHAPTER 141: THE FIGHT AGAINST THE DRAGON

His words caught me completely off guard. Instead of attacking my mind just went blank. This cannot be true; I must have misheard him since I was preoccupied dealing with Vitou and that other bastard.

“Excuse me, before we start can you please repeat that. I don’t think I heard you correct.”

“I have come to take you as my bride and make you bear my child. Come let us depart.”

I most definitely did not mishear him. He definitely said bride and now a child was added as well.

“I’m sorry. I’m not interested in cross-species marriages or relationships. You will have to find someone else. I am not the one you are looking for.”

I replied with a stiff and emotionless voice. His words really messed me up.

“Dragons are born from mana and any creature that wields it is a potential mate for us. I have been searching for one when I first sensed you and I immediately knew you were the one for me. Now let’s seal our fates and entwine them together.”

How did this happen, what happened to the great life or death battle that I envisioned. Things weren’t supposed to work out this way.

“I am already engaged to someone else. Please leave, I cannot become your bride.”

This is the only scenario where I will be using my unwanted engagement as an excuse. Usually I tried to not even think about that word, let alone utter it out loud, but right now is no normal situation.

“A dragon can have many partners, so no wonder someone that is fit to be my bride will have other suitors.”

Why is he so liberal and unwilling to give up? If it wasn’t for my title, he wouldn’t even know that I existed. Aargh, this is so annoying.

“Look here pal, I have no plans on getting married to neither you nor that other bastard. I’m sorry you spent time waiting and looking for me, but this is going nowhere. I respectfully decline your offer of becoming your bride. I hope you find someone better than me in the future.”

“But that is impossible, once we meet our partner a dragon cannot leave that easily. It is in our blood to win over our brides.”

What the…?

“Didn’t you say dragons have many partners? So what is this bullsh*t you are spewing?”

“Tsk, what’s the big deal? You humans are weird, especially those noble males, always wanting many partners. We just came to accept it as a normal thing. We dragons are possessive creatures, but we can’t really hurt our partners, can we? Just accept my hand already, I’ll show you a whole new world. Trust me.”

Did he just quote Aladdin to me? But man that is a load of crap if you ask me. It seems he is finally showing his colors and willing to fight it out with me. I will show him what it means to make me angry.

“Make me!”

I kicked the ground and aimed for his neck, but he easily dodged and slashed with his hand towards my back. I expected it and blinked away, appearing behind him and brought down my swords to cut him, but unexpectedly he was able to react and block it with his hand. Oi this is a legendary ranked weapon and you were able to block it with your bare hand.

“I knew you had it in you. Those toothpicks are amazing to be able to leave a scratch on my scales.”

What on earth? I wasn’t able to do anything to him, not even spill a single drop of blood. How am I supposed to take down a dragon? Their bellies and wings are supposed to be their weakness, but looking at his human form that had no wings and was fully covered in scales made it so those weaknesses are gone. Targeting his eyes would be even harder since it is such a small target.

I rushed in once again. I could not give up. The previous clash was more a test of pure strength, but now I was launching magic attacks as well. I even used the strongest attack of Flying Sword Art: Silver Maelstrom by destroying one of my disposable swords in the inventory, but it was all in vain. All magic dissipated before it could reach him and the shards of the sword simply bounced off of his scales.

“Why. Won’t. It. Reach. You?”

I sent attack after attack, but none made any difference to him. To him it all looked like fun and games. I could no longer go on like this. It was time to use my trump card. Just like that time at the Ogre Village I summoned the black mist to envelop both of us.

I was planning to use that curse to kill the dragon but something was odd. My mana was being matched by the dragon’s mana and the black mist now had lightning mixed in. The size of the mist also expanded with that until it was twice the original size.

“You really hadn’t let me down. Come tell me your name and I shall give you mine. Tell me before we cross arms one more time.”

I guess there is no harm in that. He must have felt this is the last attack from both sides. Since I planned on taking its life the next moment I could indulge his demand.

“It’s Naoko, Maeda Naoko.”

“Good, good strong name… I am Fulgur, ruler of thunder and bringer of storms. I welcome you to my embrace Naoko.”

This time he was the one to charge towards me with his claws outstretched. I smiled, he was finally taking me seriously. I decided I should meet him head on one last time before releasing that curse and charged my swords at my side.

The moment we clashed something happened to the lightning black mist as it started collapsing and only enveloping the two of us. The sudden change made me lose my focus for a second, but Fulgur as if expecting me evaded both my swords and hugged me tightly against his skin.

The mana field shrunk until it was only covering the two of us. I felt as if our bodies have completely melted in the thick mana cover. It was painful and nauseating, but oddly enough sensing the presence of the dragon made me feel relaxed. I could feel his existence next to mine and it felt like it was mine.
