CHAPTER 148: THE WYVERN APPEARS
I looked as the other nineteen members went after him. Hopefully they will get off my back now. I hugged Byakko and closed my eyes simply enjoying the afternoon sun.

“Thanks for keeping me safe, I knew I could count out you.”

I was still readjusting myself after possessing the eagle, and hearing the happy purring underneath me made me happy. I didn’t plan on doing much today except wait for the wyvern to appear. I don’t even know if he will come by here today, but in case he does I am prepared to take it on.

When I accepted the request, I assumed that it was already known where the wyvern was, but it was hard to deal with it, so that is why nobody killed it. I had no idea I would have to deal with searching for it on top of getting rid of it. If there were some mountains or cliffs near here it would be easier, but everywhere around me were flat areas or forests, not the habitat for wyverns.

“Excuse me Maeda-san, are you asleep?”

“No, I am awake.”

The woman from the A-rank party with whom I spoke before approached me. She came alone and I was really impressed with the bravery she showed.

“I came to discuss the attack priority for when the wyvern appears. I would like to take that since we were here first. We would have left that to the other party, but seeing how they ran away…”

She let the sentence drop. Despite coming alone, I could still see she was nervous standing in front of Byakko. I couldn’t blame her. To make her feel more at east I slid down from its back and walked over to her.

“I won’t mind that, but giving all the precious materials is a bit of a shame.”

“Naturally you will be compensated. If we kill it from the get-go you will be given 5% of
the reward.”

That seemed okay, I am sure they already tried before and failed to kill it. But they coulds still claim to try and go for it first. Even in-game, the first party on-site has the right to challenge the raid first.

“I’m happy with that, but the moment it starts to run away I will intervene. I can’t afford to
stay here for too long. Also if it attacks me, I will attack it in return.”

“That is only natural, thank you for agreeing. If it comes that we end up on the same request again I will gladly cooperate with you once more.”

I was happy that there were normal people present as well. When people are polite you can reach an agreement much more easily. The wizard woman went back to her party and few
of them waved at me and showed me the thumbs-up. I waved back and continued my afternoon nap.

It was only in the late afternoon that something changed. A howl could be heard from a
distance. It was no wolf for sure. I got up and woke up Byakko. The A-party was already in formation ready for a fight. This must be it, time for a battle.

Another howl, followed by a screech, this time much closer. I looked up at the sky, but I couldn’t see it. There were some clouds, so I assumed it was hiding among them.

I knew it was close, since now I could even hear the flapping of its wings. It was rushing
here with great urgency as if something was compelling it to hurry. Wait, rushing here? I have a bad feeling about this.

“Byakko head west from here immediately. Once the wyvern flies away make sure you
follow it. I think I will take the express ride there.”

If that thing comes straight for me as I think it will, I will have no option but to fight. Just in case, I decided to hide among the trees and give the opportunity to the A-rank party.

Sadly, my actions were in vain. The moment it appeared from among the clouds it dove
straight towards my hiding position. The magicians from the A-rank party started attacking it as soon as it was within range, but they were completely ignored.

I should have thought about this earlier, with the effect of my title, of course it would be
attracted. As I spent the last few days inside a dungeon, the effect kind of slipped off my mind.

The ten people all ran towards me while constantly casting magic, yet despite hitting the
target, they were completely ignored. Screw this, time for me to act.

As the wyvern crashed on the ground with full impact it pulled me to the ground as well. I simply took a random sword and took a stance. It tried to slash me with a claw, but I clumsily
evaded and as a result got grabbed. This was of course on purpose. Since I got caught, the
wyvern flapped its wings and immediately flew away. Now little beastie, show me your nest.

Wyverns, much like dragons, liked hoarding treasures, especially shiny things that is why
their nests can sometimes hold valuables. The only reason I wanted to reach its nest is so I can hit the jackpot once again. I got lucky in the Temple of Rain, maybe I will be lucky again. The one thing that I couldn’t figure out is why wasn’t this wyvern followed before?

Looking down I felt dizzy for a second. I thought I saw a white dot running in the grass
field, but I wasn’t sure since we were flying so high. Subconsciously, I grabbed the claw that held me a bit tighter.

The flight took about three hours according to my estimate and I was shocked to see that
despite lowering the altitude there were still no mountains or cliffs around. I had no idea how far behind Byakko was, but he should be able to arrive here soon enough.

After a dozen minutes, I caught sight of something out of place in this forest. It resembled an outpost but it was in ruins and covered with vegetation. The most preserved building was a tower that had its spire half-deteriorated.

I realized this place was the wyverns nest. Since I knew what I needed to there was no
need to keep it alive anymore. I only waited until we were low enough so that the materials don’t get too damaged from the fall. After all, those will sell for much less than fully preserved materials.
