CHAPTER 149: JACKPOT

“Come fire elementals, heed my words and answer my call. I implore you, burn with all your might and vanquish my enemy from within. I offer you my mana in exchange for your aid.”

Since I didn’t want to damage the hide, I had to strike it from within, and most monsters did not have any defenses inside their bodies. Seriously, I never understood why more people didn’t do this. When I taught this to my dear students, they were seriously astonished with such a tactic.

I took out a sword and using blink moved to the wyvern’s back and stabbed my sword in. The wyvern screamed out, but with that the true agony began, because now the elementals were free to enter and burn it from within. If games worked this way, they would be not fun, but right now I am glad this is not a game.

The poor wyvern was unable to endure the burning and came crashing down outside the ruins. As it was writhing and crying in pain I decided to end its misery with a strike of a sword.

I put away the corpse in my inventory and headed for the ruins. I still had to check what was inside them and if they held any treasure. I only had some hopes for the nest, and not much for the rest of the ruins as I didn’t feel this was some important outpost. Somehow I doubt valuables would be kept here, but hey who knows.

I went through several rundown buildings and found absolutely nothing. I couldn’t even find a single piece of weapon or armor. Heck not even tools. The place was as empty as it could be.

“Oh come on! Not even tableware? Just let me have some scrap metal that I can sell. I even let myself be kidnapped to get here.”

I cried out in frustration after coming out empty even after checking the last of the building. The only place left to check is the tower where the nest should be. Hopefully there is some profit there.

I didn’t climb the tower using the stairs. It didn’t seem safe since the tower was in ruins, but the overall structure should still be stable to be able to hold a fully grown wyvern. So to keep things safe I used blink to move directly to the open pace where the spire had collapsed. I looked down to the nest and almost fell down upon seeing what is inside it.

“It’s a jackpot, a real jackpot. I can’t believe I was able to score this big. Oh, I’m having a feast once I get back. I can’t believe my luck.”

The nest didn’t hold gold, silver, jewels or other precious materials. It also didn’t hold books on magic or weapons. No, inside the nest there were five tiny wyverns not even reaching a meter long. If I could tame them and raise them properly, I will be able to have a group of wyvern riders.

I couldn’t let go of this chance. Without hesitation I brought out a wolf corpse that I killed some time ago and gave it to the babies. They greedily started tearing it apart and eating it. They finished it whole in a flash, so I took out another one. After eating about half they stopped and began snoring soon after. Truly, they were babies. I must take them to the capital and bring them to the clan.

I couldn’t waste too much time, since I still had to report the finished subjugation, but I couldn’t let them process the finished subjugation otherwise I wouldn’t be able to move freely. I guess I should just let them see the proof of subjugation and have the town chief sign the request and then run away, but I can’t appear with five other wyverns in tow.

That is why even though I didn’t want to I decided to wait patiently at the tower. I need to wait until Byakko arrives here. If he can take they wyverns and start heading towards the capital I can use [Blink] to go back and easily catch up later on.

I kept blowing my whistle every so often and finally after almost an hour he came running into the ruins area while panting heavily. Good, I will let him rest for a bit and then send him off.

“I am sorry Master that it took me so long to reach here. Please punish me for not coming earlier.”

“Don’t mind it, take a small break, you will be running again soon.”

I took out a tub I had and filled it with water so he can drink. While he was resting I was thinking of the best way to make sure the wyverns stay on Byakko and don’t run off or fall down. The best idea I could come up with was to tie them up with ropes to the back. Byakko was big enough to carry all five of them.

“Master what do I need to do? Where do I need to take you?”

“You won’t be taking me. I have to go back to that town to report, but you will have to run to the capital while carrying some monsters.  I will join you soon. For now I will have you go southeast from here… in that direction. I will probably reach you before dawn.”

“Master, your wish will be fulfilled.”

With that I began strapping and tying up the wyvern babies one by one. Byakko was calm and let me do as I please which sped up the process a lot. Before he ran off I made sure to stuff some meat into wyverns so they would sleep the entire way. As soon as they disappeared into the woods I made my move and went back to the town.

The evening was calm, but I felt great pressure. I didn’t care if I would come across people on the way back and used [Blink] without care for mana or possible passerby that would see me once I was near the town. I even directly blinked in front of the guard at the town gates causing him to scream out in shock, but after showing him my id he finally calmed down.

With this, part one of my plan is over and part two is about to begin.
