CHAPTER 17 – GOBLIN’S LAIR

It took me three hours to reach the caverns that were indicated on the map. I thought it
was much closer but going through dense forest slowed down my progress including the high encounter rate for monsters. I thought that oddly high number of goblins was present in the forest today.

As I was hiking through the forest I remembered Thanatos-sama’s advice about class and tried changing it. I could do it without a hitch and switching between different classes didn’t seem to prove any problem at all. According to the original plan I put Magic Swordsman as my class.

Upon arriving at the entrance of the caverns I decided to take a small break and readjust
my condition. I was playing it safe. I called upon some earth elementals and asked them to scout out ahead and notify me about the monsters present inside.

“NaoNao… I’m done.”
“Me too, me too, praise me!”

“Well done, you did a great job. Please tell me what did you learn? I’ll give you some
more mana.”

“Umu… there are 643 monsters inside. 127 are ants, 15 are spiders and the rest are goblins. There are four exits to the caverns and all are guarded by monsters.”

WHAT!? Over 600 monsters? I thought that the report said it should be only about a
hundred. Just where did all the rest come from? I thanked the elementals and sent them away.

There is no way I would be able to take on all of them. It was beyond ridiculous.
I thought about whether to abandon the request but in the end I decided that I should try it out either way. According to my plan guerilla tactics should work out just fine. I will diminish their numbers slowly and attack them while they are away from the main force.

Taking a deep breath I calmed myself and activated my [Stealth] skill. Thus as I was
hidden I entered the caverns proceeding onwards. As I didn’t know the layout of the cave, I made sure to leave some markings so I do not get lost inside.

As I moved deeper in I would occasionally come across lone goblins or small groups
wandering around which I made sure to exterminate using surprise attacks and superior strength. The deeper I went the more goblins I encountered.

It was becoming harder and harder to fight them without taking any damage at all. Especially against goblins that rode armored ants. Those guys were extremely annoying since they could move fast and climb walls as well. One time, one of them was able to escape from me and warn another group before I caught up to him and killed him along with the rest of the group. That battle left me with several cuts and bruises and I was forced to take a break to recover my power.

“Sususususu…”

As I was relaxing, a sneaking sound appeared from behind me. Thanks to my [Enhanced Sense] I was able to perceive it and avoid the attack of the rock spider. That monster was over a meter in height with extremely large legs and strong fangs. It was absolutely disgusting. I hate spiders.

“Come fire elemental… however mana you need just burn that thing down. I don’t care how, just get rid of it!”

It seems that I overdid it because once the fire died out there was absolutely nothing left, only ashes.

The next few hours were spent hunting. So far I have killed 90 goblins, 15 armored ants and 4 rock spiders. Going through all the paths takes time I couldn’t always find enemies to fight.

After some more time I came across somewhat open area with a large goblin fully clad in leather armor and a hammer at his side. Behind him was some sort of a makeshift door. I could tell that this goblin was different from all those I fought so far. He could actually prove to be a worthy opponent for me.

I didn’t cast dark magic on him. I didn’t even use stealth. I appeared before him holding a sword in my hand. The blatant challenge made him enraged and he gripped his hammer raising it up immediately.

I lowered my stance and prepared to use White Charge. This charge was first among
four great sword skills in the Flying Sword Art. When fully mastered the person using these skills would seem like he was flying through the battlefield. As I was now, I couldn’t replicate it to the fullest, but I hoped that one day I would be able to do it just like I did it before. In the “Free World” I gained these skills upon completing a series of high difficulty timed quest. It was also using this that I gained a nickname in that game because of my PvP skills:
Calamity of Crown Colosseum. I won’t deny that I found that nickname beyond embarrassing, but on the other hand it meant that you were recognized in the community for your strength. For that reason I never objected to it. And now it was time to revive that same sword art in real life.

“Prepare to taste my blade, you will be the first sacrifice to take on my White Charge.”

The poor goblin didn’t have a chance. He was able to dodge the first strike, but as he
was unaware of the second strike from behind. I was able to slash him downwards with all my might and his body hit the floor unmoving.

I took a look at the sword I have been using ever since I arrived at Orzak. There was a
crack running up the entire length of the blade. I overestimated my strength in this attack and caused the sword to break. Maybe I should put my Flying Sword Art on hold for now and wait until I get a better weapon.

“Farewell my friend… you’ve served me wonderfully”

I put the sword away in my inventory and retrieved the Goblin General’s corpse. It was time to move forward. I pushed the door open and immediately shut it back closed. With just a single glance I could see over a hundred goblins gathered inside. There is no way in hell I would be able to take on so many of them without dying. Running inside would be same as suicide.
