CHAPTER 170: HIDDEN ROOM

“Nao-chan, please stop sneaking out and escaping without notifying anyone. Do you have any idea how many times Mia-san had to go out and retrieve you? If you want to go out, just tell me and we can go together.”

Vitou preaching to me was something that happened on a daily basis. The past week I kept on escaping the castle to do, or at least try to do some of the requests at the guild. Every single time Mia-san would come drag me back and he would come and scold me, not that it did anything. I mean I would have thought that he would stop doing this by now.

“I don’t know why you even bother, it’s not like I will listen to you.”

“Whatever, just don’t go anywhere tomorrow. It’s the day of the engagement party, so stay in the castle, no matter what. I don’t want to hear reports saying you escaped. Trust me when I say, I will put you in a place with no windows and only a single door. I wonder how you will be able to escape then?”

Blergh, all the more reason to escape this place, can’t he come up with anything more creative. I already heard everything before, and still he didn’t do anything to me. I made a face behind his back as he left my room/prison. Mia-san was staring daggers at me the whole time he was here. I really did make things difficult for here, didn’t I? Oh well…

“Mia-san, I’m heading out.”

“Naoko-chan, didn’t the words the Crown Prince said reach you at all? How could you ignore His Highness like that?”

“Easy-peasy. Just like this.”

I said that and left through the door. She immediately came after me trying to bring me back.

“Naoko-chan, please don’t do this.”

“It’s fine, I will stay inside the castle. Come with me if you want. It’s not like you won’t follow me if I tell you not to. Think of it like this, you are with me so I am not escaping.”

I was going to explore the castle’s dungeons that were situated in the basement. I wanted to see if the king had any dirty secrets hidden away at that place. I was curious, since the last time I tried to enter the dungeons I was denied access. I wouldn’t be so interested if this was all, but later on both the King and the Crown Prince made sure to scold me for trying to enter the off-limits area.

Well, since the front door was unavailable to me, I could only use alternative way to get inside. Thanks to the [Map Projection] skill that was integrated into the overall [Map] skill I could get an insight of the entire area, including secret passageways.

I was going to the library. That place was the best location. Also it was not very popular and there were not many people inside, only some scholars and the clerks. And most importantly, it was built directly over an area I was sure nobody is aware of.

I walked among tall bookshelves, seemingly wandering at random. When I arrived I tried to shoo away the clerk that kept on following asking if any help is needed, but he just wouldn’t leave. I stopped in front of a bookshelf and took out a random book. I sat down on the floor and pretended to read. Only then did he leave Mia-san and me alone.

“Naoko-chan, why didn’t you say you wanted to read a book, I kept on expecting you would try to escape.”

“Because I didn’t come here to read. Mia-san, let’s go on an adventure.”

She looked at me completely horrified when I said those words. She must have thought that I would do something extreme, but before she could protest I began my chant.

“Come elementals; I offer you my mana. Wind, Earth, I need you to lend me a hand.”

“Naonao, it’s been so long. I missed you.”

“I missed you little Nao.”

“What did you do just now? Why do I sense such pure Wind element here all of a sudden?”

“Guys, I need you to vent the room below us, you know the deal. Also, we’re making a one way path down there. So you’ll have to recreate the floor perfectly, down to the dot? Can you do that?”

The elementals snorted and took off immediately. Soon a hole over a meter wide was created in the library floor. I approached it, but Mia-san held my shoulder and stopped me.

“Where do you think you’re going?! You can’t escape, you know that, right? Also what was that magic you used earlier, I thought you couldn’t use earth magic, nor wind magic?”

Oh, come on Mia-san, I will be staying inside boundaries of the castle. Look down, there is a secret room there, hidden away from all eyes. Don’t you want to explore it? Come on, it will be fun.”

She looked skeptically at the floor. I knew that she was considering whether to go in, or forcefully drag me back to my room. It was at that time that the library clerk returned and saw the hole in the ground.

“Naoko-sama, is there anything you would…?”

“Oops, we’ve been found out. No more time for thinking Mia-san, we need to hurry up.”

I pushed her down the hole and then jumped right after her while the clerk was still stunned. I looked up and saw the entrance closing up behind me. Perfect at least this way I would be able to buy some time for myself, at least enough time to see what this room is all about before Vitou comes crashing in.

“Naoko-chan, that was cruel! How could you push me all of a sudden? You nearly gave me a heart attack!”

I looked around the room. It resembled a study, but when I began moving I noticed something peculiar about this hidden room. I felt stronger in here than outside, and I was definitely not inside a battle so that [Calamity of Crown Colosseum] would activate. No, it was something else.

“Mia-san, our luck is good. We just came across an unknown dungeon. How exciting is that?”
