CHAPTER 171: SECRET DUNGEON

“A dungeon? How can you be certain? There was no indication as we entered here, I don’t remember feeling a change in the atmosphere.”

I wanted to make sure by checking my status, but that would mean Mia-san seeing it, which is something I cannot risk. I want to keep the full extent of my strength hidden.

“Yeah, I’m sure of it. I have an ability that strengthens me when in dungeons. Also, I don’t think we entered through a conventional entrance. Come on, let’s see what this place is hiding.”

I began looking around the room. To brighten it up I summoned several light elementals, they seemed oddly excited and yet at the same time worried about something. They were speaking extremely fast over each other constantly that I could not make out the words, I simply let them be and went to check the books. There were a lot of notes on the desk and floors and countless books on the shelves of the study which all ended up in my inventory. From glances I could see they were mostly political books, but I did come across some magic books, who knows, I might be able to learn something new about it all.

“What are you doing? We need to go back and inform everyone about this, immediately!”

“We will go back, eventually. I first want to make sure that I get everything I can get out of this place. This seems quite old you see, there might be something in this place that was forgotten over time. Besides, it’s not like we can go the same way out as we entered, just relax and we will be able to find another way out.”

“So, you’re telling me that we are stuck in this room with no exit? Dig a way out immediately so we can escape. Don’t you know that dungeons are dangerous?”

I didn’t say anything. Instead, I pushed aside a bookshelf and a passage was revealed. Having [Map Projection] kind of kills all the fun in finding a true way out. Just to be sure, I took out both Amethyst and Sapphire and went inside the passage, deeper into the dungeon.

I had no idea what attribute this dungeon had, but from the way the light elementals were behaving it probably has something to do with Light attribute, however I couldn’t be sure. I really wanted it to be water attribute since that would be the easiest to deal with.

“Mia-san if you find out anything let me know. I don’t want to be careless, so let’s proceed with caution.”

“Naoko-chan, why are we going in further in the first place? Taking on a dungeon just with the two of us is same as suicide.”

“We’ll be fine, don’t worry. I know a thing or two about dungeons. I have an inn opened right next to one of them, so I know exactly what to expect from places like this.”

Well, I know a whole lot more than a thing or two, but no need to share that piece of information. She stood closer to me tightly holding onto a silver whip. Now that I think about it, this is the first time I saw her take out a weapon. Not once did she use this when trying to bring me back to the castle. That whip totally suited her image, especially in the maid outfit.

The passageway kept on going in a single line not branching out at all. It went for hundreds of meters before reaching a dead end.

“Great! Now what?! We’re stuck. This is by far the most boring dungeon that I visited. Are you sure about this being a dungeon? Somehow I am starting to doubt that.”

“This is not a dead end. It just looks like one, but beyond that wall there is another space. An open one. If you don’t believe me you can try and go back on your own, but I will be going ahead.”

“How can you know that?”

“Special skill. Now move back, I am about to go wild for a bit.”

I took out a giant hammer that most likely belonged to an orc on an ogre that I defeated in the past and enchanted it so that it becomes sturdier. I swung it with all my might at the wall which literally explodeed upon impact.

There was a hole three meters wide where I struck it with the hammer. I might have overestimated the sturdiness of it when I hit it and went a tad bit overboard. Oopsie. Mia-san was just staring at me in shock. I guess there was no need to weaken the wall with the dark magic.

[SKILL: Blunt Weaponry LV1 has been acquired.]

Ooh, a skill, nice one. I left the corridor and stepped into what I could only see as a prison cell. Well this is unfortunate. I was considering blowing another hole in the wall, but that might not be the wisest decision. So I moved to the door which turned out to be unlocked.

 “Naoko-chan, aren’t these..?”

“Yup, these should be the prison cells under the castle, but this is the lower floor. This little secret dungeon might not be so secret. It seems that I am not the only one seeing to gain profit.”

 “What does that mean?”

Oops, I said something unnecessary. But this is interesting. Just how many people know about this, and why is it kept so secret?

“Don’t think too much of it, I am merely talking to myself. Let’s go that way.”

I said that and began walking towards the inner part of the dungeon. If the king is hiding something, it should be at the innermost part of the dungeon. The same place where the core should be located.

We went down two set of stairs and wandered through many corridors without finding anything of note until we reached a large circular room. At the center of the room a monster stood, the very first one we encountered as well as one that is quite troublesome. Or at least it would have been if it weren’t for a certain situation I had gotten myself into some time ago.

“What brings the bride of my brother into this desolate place?”

“Greetings dragon, I am just exploring around the castle with my friend here. If you would be so kind to let us pass, I would be deeply grateful.”

A dragon was lying down blocking the passage to the other side of this circular room. Despite being face to face with such a monster, I couldn’t feel any anxiety or fear. I guess, aside from dragons having favorable opinion of me, the title [Dragon’s Bride], also makes me feel relaxed around them. Sadly Mia-san was not being affected by it and I could see her going pale on the spot and gripping her whip ever so tightly.
