CHAPTER 181: BRINGING THE HEAVENS DOWN

I fell asleep right after the party and was woken up not even an hour later to find out the city was being attacked. The map lit up like it was Christmas with all the red lights. Also to add the feeling of it, I was able to get a gift of having the wedding moved back two months. Not to mention all the profit I could gain from the monster. Man Christmas really did arrive early this year.

I decided that I needed more help to deal with everything here. I finally had Light magic, and I thought it would be a shame not to make best use of it and summon another creature that I can form a contract with. It should be able to teach me better about my new magic and all the fun ways to use it. However, in no way did I expect to summon a phoenix on my first try.

“A mere human is not worthy to call upon me. This Bright Phoenix has nobody to call his superior.”

“Oh come on. I bet all you ever do is sleep, don’t you ever want to do something wild from time to time?”

The phoenix seemed to be contemplating something. I didn’t believe such words would make it stop to think. It must be super bored to consider my offer.

“I do not mind giving you help this one time, but I refuse to contract a master that is weaker than me. Unless the heavens themselves fall I will not accept you as my master.”

Something about that made me recall a weapon that I possessed. I had totally forgotten about it and if this phoenix had not mentioned the falling heaven I would most likely not have thought about using it at all in this situation.

“Then I will do exactly that. I will make the heavens fall down so don’t go back on your word later on. I will be happy to gain you as a new companion.”

“Like you can do that? Fine, I will keep my word. Now show me puny human, how can you make the skies listen to you and fall on your command?”

I took out a staff and smiled. I turned to Vitou and made him listen.

“Sound the retreat for everyone that is outside the city. If you don’t there will be casualties and that is something neither of us want to see. Also, the ground will most likely be wasted after this, I will fix it later, but I want you to agree with it first. I don’t want you saying because I destroyed the field I would have to pay the penalty or something like that.”

The Starfall skill that came with the Black Star Staff which I got from the Archduke would cause devastation, but he did ask me to get rid of the undead. I guess there has to be some sort of sacrifice.

“Do it, better to lose fields than people. Do you want my support?”

“Pff, as if I need it.”

I watched the retreat and when the gates were closed I raised the staff high and imbued it with mana. The patterns in it began shining brightly and I could feel the skill that it held being activated as a large portion of my mana was sucked away.

“Big words coming from a human. If you want my help, I demand you give me all your mana right here and right now.”

“Be patient little bird. It takes time for heavens to fall.”

I could feel it coming closer. A light shone behind me and the first light meteor appeared and struck the undead army burning everything, but there was no impact unlike what I expected.

I had no idea how this magic worked, but I was dead certain about one thing. It was by far the most beautiful magic that I had ever witnessed. The shooting stars were falling in hundreds and thousands of light trails purifying the entire undead army heading from the North. It only affected the monsters and the ground beneath it remained unaffected.

Sadly since the undead were burning there was not much loot. I guess this was a small downside to this magic.
“Heaven is aiding us. The gods are giving us their protection. Thank you gods!”

“A miracle! I am seeing a miracle!”

I heard screams from the entire army camp. In a world of magic, just what exactly is considered a miracle? Wouldn’t you be able to explain with magic? Hmm, I never thought about this concept, seems like something people would write their thesis on.

“My lovely sister, I see you are already able to use this gift of mine. I didn’t think it would be this soon though. Anyways, what you just did caught his attention so I came to warn you to sleep with one eye open from now on. Also, I want in on the fun.”

“Don’t you dare, this is my treat and I don’t want you leeching off. Although, how do you deal with headaches?”

“You don’t, just grit your teeth and endure. It gets easier with time. Actually later on you most likely won’t bother to move for small fries like this. Give it a decade or two and you will see. Unless it is something that you can profit from, you most likely wouldn’t even bother getting out of bed.”

I bet he would know all about that, wouldn’t he. Wait, why is he here? Isn’t he supposed to be the Black King that was raising this army? Did I get it wrong? Man this sucks, and here I thought I finally learned something to use against him. When the last star fell I collapsed on the ground. This magic is definitely not something that can be used carelessly since it dries you out of mana completely.

“Holy smokes Nao-chan, what the hell did you just use? Since when can you use Light Magic? Is it the same as Mia-san, but why didn’t you say anything before?”

Vitou was in shock. Well it sure is something to be shocked about, but I thought he would have stopped being surprised with things I do. When I regained my breath and stood up, I didn’t answer him and instead faced the phoenix.

“I brought the heavens down as the stars rained onto the earth. So, what do you say?”

“I am a bird of my word. By the name of Thanatos I vow to serve you, child of man. Do tell my your name. I am Elyra of the Southern Sun.”

“Nice to meet you Elyra, I am Maeda Naoko, Daughter of Death, and Thanatos-sama.”

This is the first time that I acknowledged his as an adoptive father. I mean I did have the title Daughter of Death and he was called Thanatos. Plus he is the reason why I am able to be reborn in Doren so I guess it is technically the truth. Plus, from what I heard from Daphira the Hell Butterfly he already acted like an overprotective father, so this should make him happy hearing it.

I bowed down to the phoenix and from the corner of my eye I saw the Archduke smiling as if all this was pleasing to him and amusing at the same time.

“I am terribly sorry for insulting you earlier, now that I look at you I can sense his presence in you. Please don’t punish me.”

“It’s fine, he is wherever he is, and I am here. Welcome on board Elyra of the Southern Sun. Let’s enjoy our time together from now on.”

I looked at the moonlit horizon. One third of the army was gone and the other two were moving through the forest converging back to the northern area of the plains. Round one was mine to take, round two is about to begin.
