CHAPTER 233: THE PLAN IN MOTION

The maid’s mind was weak and I was able to easily take over her body. As soon as someone called for the doctor I ran out of the room. I didn’t dare stay in this body for too long and after instilling the idea that the doctor is absolutely needed I left it and switched to the first bird I could find. This would be the easiest way to move around.

When the King arrived at the hall, I saw that he didn’t have the Sword of Fire on him. That could only mean it was being kept in a safe place and also it was up for the taking for whoever gets to it first. Before I could do all that I had to go back to my room and grab the mana crystals that I had prepared for this plan.

These mana crystals were all prepared last night alongside many others to fool the Archduke and all of them would be really useful for sneaking in and taking the sword out. After all, right now I am not using my own body, so magic I usually use is not available to me.

As soon as we got in the castle I started memorizing the entire layout of the castle as well as the areas that are hidden to the public eye. Because of that I knew where the treasury should be located, and it is exactly where I was right now.

I took the first mana crystal that was enchanted with light magic and it emits a strong laser in a small area around it once it is activated. I placed it in a small dent on the wall which should be connected to the treasury and activated it. Sadly I could not control the magic precisely and had to flee as soon as I activated it. I was not worried about someone noticing the light from the magic because currently everyone was focused on the banquet.

After the crystal was used up I flew through the basketball sized hole into the next room and just like I expected the treasury was inside. I could see all the different kinds of weapons and armor displayed on the walls as well as countless other jewels and accessories. Unfortunately, I could not see the Sword of Fire. I made sure to fly over every single area of the room and check the items, but it really was not there.

Since the item was not in the treasure the other two places I wanted to check were the study where I knew some items tend to be displayed and be under the constant watch of guards, and the other place was a secret room entered through the King’s bedroom. Since entering the study would be easier I flew there first, but even through the open window I could see that the sword was not there, but just to make sure I flew inside and checked it out.

There were some valuables present in this place, but nothing that could compare to the Sword of Fire. I didn’t have much hope for this place in the first place, but I didn’t want to leave a single rock unturned. Flying out of the window I moved towards the King’s bedroom.

That place had a chamber underneath it and it was most likely a personal safe where the King could store his personal valuables. If he wanted to hide something, this would be the place to store it. I would probably have a place like this as well if it weren’t for my inventory skill.

I placed another one of those light mana crystals and made a hole in the floor. I could have searched for the mechanism to open it normally, but who would want to waste so much time. I didn’t plan on staying here for that long.

I entered the chamber and was stunned to see what was inside. It looked more like a torture chamber than a safe. For a moment I thought that the King was into some quite kinky stuff, but the tools here were absolutely not for enjoyment. There were even some bones piled up in the corner of the room.

This is a place where I was definitely not supposed to enter. I decided to look around some more, just in case, but was already feeling quite disappointed. A sword known as national treasure should not be placed in a space like this, otherwise it would be counted as blasphemy. The only clue I had about this place is an open book on magic circles, mainly about fire attributes, but nothing conclusive.

I only had so much time I could spend here, but something kept on telling me that it was not time to leave quite yet. I constantly had a feeling like something is not right with this room, aside from the dead person in the corner of the room and the torture instruments. I only had one light mana crystal left and that was left to break into the throne room where another hidden room was located. I was about to leave this chamber when I sensed a light breeze blowing from below.

I knew that something was wrong. The hole I made to enter this place shouldn’t cause this type of breeze, this could only mean there was another place in this chamber. But from the map yesterday I couldn’t find it at all. I was certain there was only this room beneath the King’s bedroom.

I decided to look through this room once more to make sure I don’t miss anything and sure enough, I noticed a straight line on the ground going from one end of the room to the other. I didn’t think much about it at first, but looking at it now, it is the only straight line in the many cracks on the floor. When I looked at it up close I was able to confirm the breeze blowing from that line. I didn’t know the mechanism to make the place below visible, so I decided to use the last crystal and gamble on my luck. If the sword is not inside I will use another opportunity to steal it. As long as I have Space magic I can use it to get in and out of the castle in mere minutes without anyone noticing.

Soon another hole appeared and I entered the hidden room, but the scene I saw shocked me completely. There were no torture machines, nor there was anyone imprisoned. Instead across the floor of the entire room a magic circle was painted in blood with my targeted sword embedded into the rocks in the middle of it all. But the most shocking thing about this is the fact that the magic circle that was painted is the exact same as the one that was used to imprison the Light Elemental in the Prison of Light dungeon.

Thankfully this time around there was nobody imprisoned here and it all seemed like a bait so something will get trapped eventually. I assumed that the King was planning on making a High Fire Elemental imprisoned here and act in the same way as that Light Elemental was used. I just found another reason to steal this sword and also do a favor to all the elementals out there.

I knew that this was a trap, but I decided to risk everything and enter the circle. The only thing I paid attention to was to make sure I didn’t touch any part of the circle and landed directly on the hilt of the sword. I also assumed that this circle would not activate with every single mouse, spider or bug that touched it, so I wasn’t being that reckless. If that were the case, the amount of energy needed to sustain the circle all the time would be too big.

Even so, I was scared and didn’t dare to relax my guard. Once I landed I felt a huge relief as there was no change in the magic circle. I took the last mana crystal that I had on me and attached it to the sword. This crystal was enchanted so that once activated it will make whatever it is touching extremely light, almost like a feather. I knew I wouldn’t be able to take the sword away in a normal manner since I was in a bird’s body, but thanks to this, the theft became possible.

Despite that, I still felt weird flying around with a huge sword, but I didn’t dare dwell too much on that feeling and moved towards the forest within the castle grounds where I had Yoru waiting for me for the past two days. His job was to bury the sword and sleep there until I arrived to pick things up at a later time.

Upon dealing with everything that I had to do, I flew back to the dining area. It was time to demand some compensation and fatten my wallet.
