CHAPTER 236: CALMING THE STORM

As I approached the dining hall I saw that the part of the castle where it was located was in ruins. A barrier was activated over the area and judging from the clouds above the area and lightning that kept on flashing I could conclude what had happened.

In order to deceive everyone, I didn’t tell Fulgy about my plan. I needed him to overreact, but isn’t this a bit too much of a reaction? I mean, I am still not dead. He shouldn’t be reacting this strongly to just mere poisoning.

I looked at the clouds and was just able to make out his form. He really was going all out and didn’t bother making himself smaller. He was truly showing all of his might. I really need to hurry and return to my body, only that way would I be able to calm him down. I looked at the hall through the barrier, but I couldn’t see my body anywhere.

I was looking around restlessly, but I couldn’t see myself anywhere. Instead, I saw the Archduke staring at me and smiling mischievously. Ugh, how does he know? Did he say anything to Vitou and the others? He waved slightly and then pointed upwards.

I knew what he meant by that and flew upwards towards Fulgy. When I was high enough I left the body of the now terrified bird and moved to the dragon that was in a rampage and eventually saw my body being held in his claws.

I returned to my body and while enduring the dizziness I yelled out.

“Fulgy, calm down, I’m fine!”

I don’t think he can hear me right now because he kept on gathering more and more thunderclouds and trying to break the barrier around the dining hall. I knew that right now he wouldn’t be able to hear anything no matter how much I yell. He was too focused on the task. I tried to cast magic and attract his attention this way, but I was not able to do anything aside gathering some mana. I couldn’t change the attribute, nor could I use any magic. I tried moving, but also realized it was impossible.

“Fulgy, stop already!”

I tried yelling once more, but it was still to no avail. He didn’t react and instead made a swarm of lightning hit the barrier, making cracks in it. Despite that, it was still intact. I don’t know who put it up, but he has a lot of strength to be able to support such a strong barrier over a large area.

With nothing else to do I used the gathered pure mana and injected it into his body hoping to catch his attention this way. The moment I did that something felt wrong. The speed at which I was losing my mana was too fast, but thankfully it stopped before I lost all of it. I knew that I succeeded in catching his attention and soon the thundering calmed down and he finally spoke to me.

“My bride! Thank heavens you are awake. Don’t worry, I will avenge you. That Princess poisoned you to not have any children in the future. I will not let her off lightly.”

“Fulgy, I’m fine. Her poison can’t harm me. I have [Poison resistance] and its level is high enough to make sure a poison such as hers would only be treated as nothing.”

“Is it really true? You’re not lying to me?”

“I am 100% telling you the truth. Sorry I didn’t tell you about this before, but I planned all of this. Princess only made it easier for me to pull it all off. Bring me down, I need to demand some compensation, if you ruin everything there would be no way to do so.”

I still didn’t know why I couldn’t move, but right now I needed to resolve things quickly. Fulgy changed into his human form and carried me princess style as he landed on the ground. When we reached a well lit area I saw needles stuck all over my body. I guess this should be the reason as to why I am unable to move right now.

“Everyone, open the barrier. He won’t be attacking anyone anymore.”

I made my voice sound weak and hoarse. The next moment, the barrier was shattered and Vitou appeared in front of me. I don’t think I ever saw him this worried. This must have shook him greatly. Maybe, just maybe, I should cut him some slack. After all, he does care about me and worries about my wellbeing.

“Nao-chan, are you okay? How are you feeling? Are you cold? Is there any discomfort?”

He tried to take me into his arms, but Fulgy avoided him and held me tighter. I smiled seeing the jealousy in both of them and replied.

“I’m fine, get me inside and let someone take away these needles. I want to stand on my own.”

As we entered, what was now the ruins of the dining hall, the guards surrounded us and pointed their weapons. I saw Vitou’s expression turn grim. I don’t think things will be so smooth between the two kingdoms after today.

“Who dares to point their weapon at me? Unless you want this to truly become a huge matter, you will put them down. Right now there is no need for this and everything is under control.”

“Lower your weapons, it seems Duchess Maeda was able to calm down her dragon after waking up.”

The King gave the order, but there was no apologetic nor worried look. Instead, he seemed more afraid and kept glancing between the Archduke and me. If I were to make a wild guess, the Archduke made a move and scared the King into obedience.

“I am sorry for making everyone worried and for the damages that Fulgy caused. I wish to cast a healing spell on everyone, but sadly, these needles prevent me from doing so. If the doctor that performed the acupuncture could be kind enough to remove them, I would be grateful.”

I acted humble and apologetic. I also didn’t mention anything about poisoning. I was pretending to not know anything about it. Before I could get a reply I was hit with something small that stuck to my face and blocked my line of sight.

“Uwaah…. Nao-chan, I was so scared. I wasn’t paying attention to the live feed so I didn’t know what was going on. When I was summoned and saw you like that I was so scared. Uwaaa… I am so happy that you are alive.”

I was stunned, there is no doubt this voice belonged to Daphira, but what was she doing here? I didn’t summon her, so could it be the Archduke? How can it be, I was under the impression that one beast cannot have multiple contracts. Am I wrong? Did I miss something when I was studying the book about summoning that Thanatos-sama gave me long ago? I need more answers.
